Successive weekends out on the tiles that make Sunday mornings just that little bit doughy. That innocuous climb up two flights of stairs bringing on a level of laboured breathing that just does not sit well. Bootcamps are one of the best ways to kick-start any fitness programme. Here are six Dubai bootcamps that can raise your fitness, fast. Ignite Inspire, motivate, challenge. That’s the three-pronged approach defining Ignite’s workout programmes. Be it for personal development or even en masse corporate classes, the desire of coaches to stoke the fires of motivation within clients and get them pushing their own boundaries is evident in both physical and virtual bootcamp sessions. They even go far as to say they make fitness a way of life, which is probably a good thing when you’re eyeing that third helping of dessert at the tail end of a long lunch. O www.ignite.ae F45 When a company bills a class as life changing, it needs to produce the goods. F45 has received rave reviews for its intense team- centric fitness sessions, and there isn’t a soul we’ve spoken to with a bad word to say about the work going down in their lively studios. Classes comprise 45 minutes (trust us, it feels longer than you think) of heart-pumping action set across pillars of cardio, resistance and the energy-sapping hybrid of the two. Expect to feel the heat but revel in a wicked- cool team mentality that gets you through the darkest reps. O Various locations including Jumeirah, Dubai Marina, Springs Souk, www.f45training.ae. Barry’s Bootcamp Barry’s Bootcamp has citywide acclaim, and for good reason. This fit fam pump to a carefully- curated soundtrack to unleash the inner Arnie, and once the momentum is in full flow, there’s often no stopping the class. Feel good, lift good, right? O Various locations including Dubai Marina, www.barrys.com. Circuit Factory The clue’s in the name at Circuit Factory, where fitness enthusiasta are tasked with completing a lap of full-body exercises in an hour-long window. Guaranteed to fly by given the seemingly minute amount of time you occupy each activity, this is touted as a brilliant bootcamp for newbies. Particular praise goes to the PTs for getting on first name terms with clients right away. It’s the little things that give the greatest motivation, so man those stations, troops. O Dubai Marina, www.circuitfactory.ae. Rick Bhullar Fitness Personal trainers have rewritten the fitness script for 2021 as health and safety takes on a whole new dimension. But that doesn’t mean the team at Rhick Bhullar Fitness are offering an easy ride for those who want to whip themselves into shape. Oh no, quite the opposite. Workouts are now more challenging, more efficient, and will have clients dreaming of slow-mo Baywatch runs down Kite Beach. Where did we leave our red trunks? O Various locations, www.dubai-fit.com/bootcamp Zero Gravity Famed for its beach party vibes, Zero Gravity is probably an unexpected entry on this list. Fitness and mixed house drinks don’t typically go hand-in-hand, but the beach club is shaking things up for 2021. Bosses have teamed up with PT outfit Enhance Fitness to run Beach Body Bootcamps on the sand every Friday and Saturday. Lasting an hour from 8.30am, get ready for high-intensity interval training under the rising sun. How you replenish the lost calories after that is very much up to you… O Skydive Dubai Drop Zone, Dubai Marina, www.0-gravity.ae. 58-59_TOD_S&W LEADER_11610095.indd 6129/03/2021 11:59:4762 March 31 – April 6 2021 timeoutdubai.com WHO DOESN’T LOVE a bit of COD in the evening? And if your first thought was ‘yep with some chips’ then you have no right to call yourself a gamer. The franchise is the go-to first person shooter for all aficionados, so here at Time Out we’ve plucked the best five games of the Call of Duty series for you to try your hand at. THE KING Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare We’re not going to tolerate any insubordination on this matter. Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare is the best game of the entire series. The fourth instalment of the Call of Duty series (what gave it away) was the edition that transformed the video game series from a popular game into the behemoth that it is today. Operate a thermal-imaging TV, crawling past and underneath tanks – or just battle it out with friends online, it’s time to be a hero (from your sofa). Overall rating: 9/10 THE BITER Call of Duty: Black Ops III A little bit fed up of fighting mano a mano? Do hordes of zombies get the heart ticking a little faster and the hairs on the back of the neck standing to attention? While the single player and multiplayer online free-for-all was nothing to write home about (no we ain’t paying more money for cool weapons) zombies mode was bundles of fun and a teenie, tiny bit scary. This is one game that you and your mates will want to take on if they want more bite (ahem) to your console action. Overall rating: 6/10 THE ORIGINAL Call of Duty: Finest Hour It wouldn’t be remiss of us not show some love towards Call of Duty: Finest Hour. From the rubble of Stalingrad and plains of North Africa to the city of Aachen and western Germany, gamers are transported all over the world (remember travelling?) to defeat enemies from the 1940s. Movie buffs will also recognised the opening level as a carbon copy of blockbuster Enemy At The Gates when Jude Law is given bullets and no gun. Overall rating: 7/10 THE FORGOTTEN ONE Call of Duty 2: The Big Red One With brilliant graphics, multiplayer free-for- alls, and lots of damage being a pre-requisite of modern COD games, there are a lot of upturned noses at earlier versions. Well bring Gaming Do your Duty down that head and stare straight at the small screen for Call of Duty: The Big Red One. This game doesn’t need any bells or whistles to charm (or distract) us because it is just a brilliant, quality game. The campaign follows the legendary American 1st Infantry Division in World War II so cheeky gamers can pass it off as part of history study for the evening. Overall rating: 8/10 THE PRODIGY Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Just like their cousins on the big screen, when it comes to sequels in the gaming world, they are generally a big disappointment. However, COD blows that notion away with Modern Warfare 2. Brilliant maps like Terminal and Rust and chopper gunner, this game is every bit as good as the aforementioned COD 4 although the singe player campaign is really short much to the annoyance of non-social players. But in terms of entertainment and saving the world, this is one tango that you should definitely engage. Overall rating: 9/10 O Prices vary. PlayStation 4, XBOX One and PC. At their calmest, mega hypermarkets (because all the adjectives) can present choppy waters that are tricky to navigate. At peak hours they turn into a full- blown tempest. But that’s the price to be paid for a dizzying number of aisles and the choice that comes with it. Captains of these trolleys are fearless, and delight in the anguish of waiting eight minutes to exit an aisle with 2kg of penne. 2 Organic market Things are less intense (in some respects) at the organic markets, where instead of shoppers feeling the stress, it is the produce that is under scrutiny. There is extra effort required when it comes with frequenting this type of market, but it’s well justified when the fruits of the trip are whipped up into a gourmet meal fit for a king (or queen, because it’s 2021, gang). 3 Online grocer Online shoppers don’t have the time to weave in and out of aisles with sticky-wheeled trolley carts. Nor do they embrace rubbing lapels with fellow foragers while planning their next meal. These online consumers value their time (and possibly lives, depending on the alternative) highly, and are happiest when having super- fresh fruit and veg delivered to straight to their front doorstep. Shoppers rattle through their grocery list in the comfort of their pyjamas on a Saturday morning, safe in the knowledge they won’t bump into anyone they know while loading up on family-sized tubs of ice cream. What your supermarket says about you Aisle have it that way #THEBACKPAGE 4 Corner shop There’s an art to filling the pantry with supplies only proffered by the local cornershop, but we aren’t sure whether it’s Monet or painting by numbers. Shoppers will pile the basket (no room for trolleys here) high with instant noodles and jars of whatever’s available, so choose your response carefully if asked round for dinner. Crisps will always be on the menu, though (but it’s potluck on the flavour). 5 Produce markets When only the freshest stuff will do, hit the produce markets. Hands down the best way to feed the tribe, and there’s something empowering about knowing the entire journey of your plate from market to sink. Don’t get spooked by iced-up fish giving you the eye, mind. STAY AT THE ULTIMATE BEACH ADDRESS Discover the first-ever beachfront property by Address Hotels + Resorts.
