< PreviousHYUNDAI DOOSAN INFRACORE WINS $83 MILLION ORDER FOR SUPPLYING TANK ENGINES TO TÜRKIYE H yundai Doosan Infracore, an HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Group subsidiary, has won a large-scale order for tank engines developed independently from Türkiye. Earlier in February, Hyundai Doosan Infracore has announced that it has signed a KRW 313.1 contract to supply 1,500-horsepower tank engines to BMC, a defense company in Türkiye, the company wrote in a statement. “This order makes Hyundai Doosan Infracore (HDI) the fi rst exclusive exporter of defense engines,” the statement noted. In October 2021, Turkey and South Korea signed a letter of intent under which two Korean companies will supply engines and transmission mechanisms for the Altay, a modern Turkish main battle tank based on South Korean's 'K2 Black Panther' tank to be produced by BMC under design assistance and technology transfer by Hyundai Rotem. Under the deal, South Korean manufacturers Doosan and S&T Dynamics would supply the know-how for engine and transmission mechanism for the Altay, which would be co- produced in Türkiye. Slated to be installed in Türkiye’s next- generation ‘Altay’ tank, the fi rst batch worth 110.2 billion won ($83 million) will be supplied sequentially for three years from the second half of 2025 according to the contract. “In accordance with the terms of the additional option purchase agreement, the second batchworth 202.9 billion won will be supplied from 2028 to 2030,” HDI said Leading up to this, the Turkish government conducted a fi eld test evaluation of the Hyundai Doosan Infracore engine equipped in an “Altay” tank, and ultimately selected it as the engine for the “Altay” tank. Commenting on the development a HDI offi cial said, “Going forward, we will strive to develop the defense industry sector as one of the next-generation growth engines by expanding our export regions.” Altay is the offi cial name of the Turkish future main battle tank. It is named after the famous commander of the Turkish Cavalry Corps. BMC, the Turkish-Qatari partnership that makes the Altay, plans to deliver the fi rst two tanks to the Turkish government in 2023. The Turkish company plans to deliver eight units a month in an order for an initial batch of 100 units. The Altay contract eventually involves the production of 1,000 tanks. 40 PLANT / MACHINERY / VEHICLESwww.plantmachineryvehicles.comAPRIL 2023 ENGINENATIONAL MARINE DREDGING GROUP AND ABU DHABI CHAMBER SIGN MOU TO ENGAGE SUPPLIERS IN KEY STRATEGIC PROJECTS A s part of their eff orts to support and increase in-country value, National Marine Dredging Group (NMDC Group) and the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ADCCI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to launch an initiative to maximise procurement opportunities and act as a catalyst for the development and growth of currently qualifi ed and willing to qualify Abu Dhabi based businesses through their participation across NMDC Group’s wide portfolio of national and international projects.
