The urgent need for alternatives to fossil fuels is driving groundbreaking projects in the Middle East, spearheaded by visionary leaders in both industry and government. This book delves into the energy leaders of the Middle East and highlights some of the region’s most innovative projects over the past few years. These projects include the development of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), advancements in green hydrogen production, and cutting-edge renewable energy initiatives. Noteworthy among these are large-scale solar power plants, wind farms, all aimed at reducing the region’s carbon footprint. Furthermore, the Middle East is witnessing a surge in green hydrogen projects, positioning itself as a global hub for this clean energy source. These initiatives not only promise to revolutionise the energy landscape but also ensure a sustainable future for generations to come. It is with great pleasure that I present this exclusive coffee table book, celebrating the individuals and projects that are at the forefront of shaping a sustainable future in the Middle East. I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as our team enjoyed putting it together. He has played a pivotal role in advancing the UAE’s green agenda, advocating for energy transition to drive economic growth while achieving environmental sustainability. Dr. Al Jaber’s extensive experience includes over a decade of active participation in climate conferences, including COP21 in 2015, where the historic Paris Agreement was signed. As the first CEO to serve as President of a climate summit, his unique perspective bridges the public and private sectors, fostering sustainable practices across various industries. Since 2010, Dr. Al Jaber has dedicated his efforts to achieving the UAE’s pledge of Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050, following the Paris Agreement. He has championed a pragmatic approach to the energy transition, emphasising the need for a realistic, economically viable plan that balances climate progress with energy security. “Progressive climate action is not only necessary, it can also be a powerful economic driver,” Dr. Al Jaber remarked in 2021. He advocates for a comprehensive energy strategy that includes hydrocarbons, solar, wind, nuclear, and hydrogen, alongside emerging clean energy technologies. Dr. Al Jaber’s dedication to renewable energy is evident in his work with Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s future energy company. As its founding CEO, he led the development of large-scale renewable energy projects, including Masdar City, a model for sustainable urban development. Under his chairmanship, Masdar has invested in solar and wind energy projects in over 40 countries,. As Group CEO of ADNOC since 2016, Dr. Al Jaber has driven a transformation focused on efficiency, integration, and sustainability. Under his leadership, ADNOC has implemented a carbon capture, utilisation, and storage program, aiming to capture 5 million tons of CO2 annually by 2030. The company has also committed to sourcing 100% of its grid power from zero-carbon nuclear and solar energy, while investing $15 billion over five years in decarbonisation strategies. Dr. Al Jaber’s contributions extend beyond energy to fostering global sustainability through initiatives like the Zayed Sustainability Prize, which promotes practical, sustainable solutions. His leadership in the UAE’s green agenda underscores his belief that climate action is a pathway to economic growth and a sustainable future. NASSER President and CEO of Aramco Amin H. Nasser is the President and CEO of Aramco, the world’s leading integrated energy and chemicals enterprise, and the largest provider of crude oil to global markets. As a member of the company’s Board of Directors, Nasser has been instrumental in steering Aramco through a period of significant transformation and growth. Nasser is also at the forefront of Aramco’s commitment to producing cleaner energy and products. He has championed investments in innovative technologies such as next-generation fuel-engine interfaces, crude oil-to-chemicals processes, and renewable energy applications. Recognizing the importance of entrepreneurship in driving the energy transition, Nasser has supported start-ups focused on cleaner energy solutions. Furthermore, he has been a key player in industry-wide efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, notably through initiatives like the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI). Nasser’s vision for the future of energy is both ambitious and pragmatic. He advocates for a balanced approach to energy transition, emphasising the need to phase in new energy sources and technologies when they are genuinely ready and economically viable. As he states, “We should ramp up our efforts to reduce carbon emissions, aggressively improve efficiency, and introduce lower carbon solutions. And we should phase in new energy sources and technologies when they are genuinely ready, economically competitive, and with the right infrastructure, adjusting all of the above as needed, as we go.” OAG_World Energy Transition Leaders 2024_16-19_Amin Naser Aramco CEO_13332158.indd 16OAG_World Energy Transition Leaders 2024_16-19_Amin Naser Aramco CEO_13332158.indd 1610/07/2024 09:1510/07/2024 09:1517 OAG_World Energy Transition Leaders 2024_16-19_Amin Naser Aramco CEO_13332158.indd 17OAG_World Energy Transition Leaders 2024_16-19_Amin Naser Aramco CEO_13332158.indd 1710/07/2024 09:1510/07/2024 09:15Next >
