What are you looking forward to at the awards this year? Since its inception, the FMME awards has been recognising both companies and individual excellence in the regional facility management space. It has successfully showcased the industry leaders, defined standards, and raised the bar for all the incumbents and new entrants. As a performance driven company, we constantly strive to excel in our operations by providing improved solutions, cost and resource optimisations, and superior management. Rewards and Recognition constitute an integral component of Performance Evaluation, both internally and externally at AG Facilities. We realise the importance of both monetary and non-monetary motivation in delivering exceptional service in the FM industry. The FMME Awards are one of the multiple indicators of our Performance and Operational Excellence standards. How has AG Facilities fared over the last 12 months and what were some of the biggest learnings? In the challenging year gone by, AG Facilities and its subsidiary MBM, are fortunate to have mobilised major contracts and are dedicated to Enhancing Lives of our business partners. We undertook mass mobilizations of the Ministry of Education, VPS, Al Ain Zoo, NMC, IACAD, ADNEC, and AWQAF. With AWQAF we undertook a mosque mobilisation covering 480km in width and 350km in length, encompassing 1,200+ mosques and involving 1,300+ cleaners. The logistics involved in executing this mammoth and treasured project successfully is a testament to the conscientious efforts of our dedicated team. What are some of the immediate initiatives and innovations AG Facilities plans to undertake in the coming months? The past 14 months have been challenging times across the globe. The pandemic and the economic ramifications have been severe on everyone and yet has managed to teach us the importance of digitalization, disruption response, and scenario planning. These lessons will guide us as we imbibe changes both internally and externally to help AG Facilities in its journey of continuous innovation and transformation and thereby Enhancing Lives of all our stakeholders. a. Process Improvement: We continue to implement the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in our processes to ensure better preventive and predictive maintenance and exigency preparation. The industry is evolving into Robotics and we at AGFS stand at the forefront of this evolution. The success of the Ghaf project, shortlisted for Sustainability Initiative of the Year, has given us the confidence to implement drones in our Facilities Management service offering. b. New Ventures: In the coming months AG Facilities will enter the nascent energy management market. This is aligned with our government’s initiatives of UAE Energy Strategy 2050. The step along with a host of other CSR activities will contribute to reducing our carbon footprint and make the world a better place for our future generations. c. Employee well-being: A new centre of excellence and multiple initiatives to improve employee morale will consolidate our vision of making AG Facilities the most preferred TFM company not only for our clients but for our staff as well. ANSARI, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, ADEEB GROUP ON FM AWARDS: FMME Awards is believed to be a great event that recognises the FM industry and its professionals for their dedication. Moreover, FM industry TONY MARTIN, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, AL BONIAN FM ON FM AWARDS: The FM Awards allow FM companies like Al Bonian FM to showcase their employees and services on a regional stage. This then not only itself was on the frontlines of the pandemic to support the community; recognising the industry’s sacrifice will be certainly an honor to the organisers and the nation. Besides, the industry has seen a vast transformation in technology and digitisation such as AI and IOT. This has taken a new lead to change the way of FM delivery and its functionalities. We look forward to the event to be organised by considering the health concerns of all those being invited as the pandemic still persists at an increased rate and HSE should be prioritised in accordance to FM strategy. LOOKING BACK: Despite the challenging times of gives recognition to the employees who are nominated but also by default to all their colleagues who support and motivate them in their work. Al Bonian FM is comfortable in being compared to, or indeed challenge, the larger FM companies in their delivery of FM services, to be reviewed, assessed and judged on as par level as possible. It is also an opportunity to meet with ex-colleagues and new faces, discuss industry best practices, what has happened in the previous 12 months and how they and their firms have dealt with all challenges within their own regions. LOOKING BACK: Be adaptable and flexible is the thing the pandemic, Adeeb Group has witnessed tremendous growth by winning various key government projects, industrial FM works, power plants, university projects etc. The time of pandemic and regulatory norms have taught us to be cost efficient and adopt virtual realities, time management, IOT and so on. We strive to be the leader in the industry as outlined in our vision and we will reach the target with the support of our greatest asset, ie., our team. Success is on our way as we provide our clients with the greatest satisfaction through our services and motivate the team to be tactful during hard times. most learned during the previous 12 months. There is little in FM service delivery that cannot be either reviewed or changed. Too many FM companies are set in their ways and live by their SOPs, I would suggest that much of this has now been reviewed due to the pandemic. Al Bonian FM has overall met the challenges with vigour and an increasing motivation to find more efficiencies in the delivery of its FM services. Al Bonian FM not only retained but has built on its previous year’s portfolio and revenues; this was all possible due to the ever motivated and dedicated approach by management and employees. We look forward to this year’s awards, which we embrace as an excellent opportunity to reward our people while learning from our fellow-professionals. LOOKING BACK: The pandemic was an eye-opener that put life in perspective; It triggered a deep need in people to live life to the fullest while creating value for the society today and for generations to come. It is proven that alignment of company values and purpose with those of the employees is an invaluable mechanism for creating solid foundations of business resilience. We capitalised on this new reality and through our “IMPACT cultural transformation” we aim to achieve memorable service and business resilience through a values- based culture that breeds fulfilment in the workplace. STUART HARRISON, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, EMRILL ON FM AWARDS: At Emrill, we especially look forward to the awards that recognise individuals who go above and beyond to impact clients’ operations positively. Categories such as Young Facilities Manager, Facilities Manager and Unsung Hero of the Year showcase team members’ fantastic efforts and successes, giving their colleagues and peers something to aspire to in the year to come. LOOKING BACK: The past twelve months have been challenging for everyone. Emrill’s people have been on the frontline from the very beginning of the pandemic, working closely with the UAE Government and health authorities during the national sterilisation campaign and continuing to ensure we are delivering world-class standards to the communities and key infrastructure contracts we service. Despite challenging market conditions, Emrill has secured new contracts, further expanding into new sectors and locations. STUART MCGREGOR, GENERAL MANAGER, BK GULF FM ON FM AWARDS: The FM awards represent an ideal opportunity for us as a community, to come together and recognise the achievements within our industry. As this year will be held in person, the atmosphere and excitement of such an event is always something to look forward to, along with the recognition of our peers on a real stage. LOOKING BACK: Surprisingly, 2020 was a year of significant growth for BK Gulf Facilities Management. Like all businesses we stumbled in March and April as the lockdown and restrictions became effective; but we were quickly back up on our feet, acquiring the Dubai Municipality certification to enable us to formally sanitise areas. By mid 2020, we secured 2 major contracts that meant significant recruitment, which again challenged us due to the government-imposed restrictions on international recruiting, but we were able to overcome this utilising the full resources of Dutco Construction Group, our parent firm. VINCENT MONTANET, CHIEF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT OFFICER, ENGIE SOLUTIONS ON FM AWARDS: This is our 10th year participating at the Facilities Management ME awards! These awards give us the opportunity to reflect on the great work we’ve done over the year, understand how the industry is progressing, and also celebrate the successes of the entire fraternity. LOOKING BACK: Last year was certainly an exceptional one for all of us. We have been supporting our clients across the region on cost and energy efficiency optimisation with a critical focus on enhancing safety and wellbeing for all. The pandemic serves as a reminder of the importance of continuous investment and training in HSE to ensure the wellbeing of all stakeholders. Overall the pandemic has risen the perception of companies such as ENGIE as long-term investors and contributors to the regional services and energy industry.FMME Awards 2021 in association with www.fm-middleeast.comJune 2021 43 CATEGORY SPONSORS TECHNOLOGY SPONSOR GARY READER, GENERAL MANAGER, SERVEU ON FM AWARDS: For ServeU, the FM Awards is a great way to highlight our accomplishments over the past 12 months, which could not have been achieved without the commitment and dedication of the team who I am extremely proud of. Our employees and their achievements make ServeU the successful business we are today and this is worth celebrating. Just being nominated highlights the efforts of all of our people. LOOKING BACK: ServeU started off the year with a strategic plan which we had to completely change and adapt during the pandemic. Covid globally hit business’s and the UAE were no exception. With a change in direction ServeU was able to further expand into the healthcare industry, supporting many service partners with critical support roles for their daily operations including security, cleaning, porters amongst others. During these challenging times and in line with the government’s efforts to curb the Covid-19 outbreak, we also carried out a number of non- profit disinfection programmes. OLIVER SAWLE, GENERAL MANAGER, KHANSAHEB FACILITIES MANAGEMENT ON FM AWARDS: Having an event like this is really important for the continued development and professionalisation of the FM industry in the region. The build up to the event and announcement of the winners creates a buzz and excitement amongst the team and make them feel good which I am sure translates into positive performance. Our participation shows we are ambitious for the future of the FM industry, our customers and our employees. LOOKING BACK: It has been a challenging and unprecedented period that we have all had to change and adapt to. Despite the challenges, we have successfully retained and expanded majority of our existing customer relationships whilst also being able to create new ones. Perhaps one of a few positives to come out of Covid pandemic is the heightened awareness of FM as an essential part of every business and the importance the role our operatives play. Some of the most significant learnings for us have been the importance of customer relationships and working through challenges together; the need for being flexible and responsive to changing requirements; and continuously challenging the way we do things and constantly looking for ways to improve. ALAN MACMILLAN, STRATEGY AND BUSINESS GROWTH DIRECTOR, INSPIRE INTEGRATED SOLUTIONS ON FM AWARDS: It is a great opportunity for the industry to recognise businesses and individuals and the positive impact they have had within the real estate and facilities management industry. Systemair and Frico, its daughter company, will showcase modern climate solutions that will ensure visitors of the pavilion are able to breathe clean air and enjoy the cool climate in a smart and sustainable manner. The companies will also be organising several exciting events aimed at educating stakeholders on the importance of achieving optimum indoor air quality without compromising on energy efficiency. While the Covid-19 pandemic has buoyed demand for PPE such as N95 respirators, the new market demand has also sparked an increase in counterfeit PPE products, directly affecting retail consumers and especially the medical industry’s frontline workers most exposed to the coronavirus. Seizures of hundreds of thousands of counterfeit N95 respirators have been reported in the UAE and South Africa. Nextsense’s patented Biovitae technology and Molex CoreSync smart building platform has resulted in a pioneering UV-free antimicrobial LED lighting technology. Integrating disparate building functions with standard building management systems, Molex’s CoreSync platform powers and controls low-voltage devices and lighting. Powered by amBX SmartCore technology, the addition of Biovitae’s UV free, antimicrobial LED lighting technology creates a revolutionary solution for Molex that helps meet the need for a safe return to public spaces and workplaces. The white light emitted not only provides excellent illumination, but also sanitises surfaces and the environment from all existing bacteria and viruses; this is particularly pertinent in light of the recent coronavirus pandemic. Tests carried out by the Scientific Department of the Celio Military Polyclinic in Rome, and the military laboratories of Germany and Sweden, suggest that the multi-frequency peak of Biovitae killed 99.8% of SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19). This exciting innovation and partnership allow spaces to be sanitised without putting anyone at risk. Giovanni Frezza, director of Digital Enterprise and IoT Solutions at Molex commented: “Unlike UV light, Biovitae is a continuous sanitisation LED system that operates safely in the presence of people, so there is no need to wait until the area is unoccupied before starting sanitation. Biovitae breaks down the structure of the exposed microorganisms meaning they cannot survive”. David Eve, CEO at amBX, affirmed: “Demand for disinfecting technology has dramatically increased since the outbreak of Covid-19. Ultraviolet-C (UVC) lighting has been around for many years; and has been associated with the wavelengths of 240 and 260 nm. Many companies are selling this solution as an effective and efficient way to sanitise environments such as schools, hospitals and offices. However, the major drawback of this solution is that prolonged exposure to UV light can cause skin cancers. Therefore, the solution can only be activated when there is no one present”. In recent times, it has been discovered that the visible light spectrum at 405 nm and the broader lengths in the 400-420 nm region have the ability to kill a wide range of microorganisms, including bacteria and viruses. Coupled with the existing benefits of Molex CoreSync, which include data aggregation, advanced connectivity, energy management, complete control and improved occupant wellbeing, Molex and all companies involved are setting a new standard for smart lighting and building control.
