In this exclusive interview with Francesco Morosini, CEO of Tesmec Saudi Arabia, we delve into the core of Tesmec’s operations exploring the company’s innovative technologies, commitment to safety and sustainability, and its infl uence on modern, eco-effi cient construction practices. How does Tesmec’s trenching technology prioritise safety on job sites, and how does it enhance overall productivity? Tesmec prioritises workplace safety as a fundamental aspect of its operations. Our commitment is refl ected in providing only high-quality products. Designed for superior effi ciency, Tesmec’s trenchers surpass traditional methods like excavators. This effi ciency not only reduces the need for multiple machines but also minimises personnel on construction sites, enhancing overall safety. Our machines are outfi tted with reliable safety devices. In contrast to conventional methods such as those in mining, Tesmec trenchers do not require the use of explosives. We emphasise the importance of our workers adopting appropriate preventive measures. At Tesmec, we see safety and productivity as interlinked. We strive to maintain an effi cient, high-quality, and rapid work environment. Our machines facilitate precise excavations, limiting the removal of material to necessary areas only. Furthermore, our machines’ application in sectors like mining integrates multiple operational steps into one, thereby reducing the workforce needed on sites. This approach further underscores our commitment to safety and effi ciency. Francesco Morosini, CEO of Tesmec Saudi Arabia, on how the company is advancing technology, safety, and sustainability in the construction industryDECEMBER 2023 41 | MACHINERY | In terms of logistics, how does Tesmec’s equipment streamline construction processes, and what impact does this have on the overall effi ciency of infrastructure projects? As previously mentioned, a single Tesmec trencher can surpass the performance of multiple traditional machines, rendering projects faster and more effi cient. From a logistical standpoint, this translates to fewer machines and operators on-site, leading to streamlined and safer operations, reduced logistics and fuel costs, and simplifi ed site management. Tesmec trenchers are not only incredibly reliable and of high quality but also highly versatile, adapting to various conditions and applications. They off er solutions that meet the unique requirements of diverse projects. This logistical advantage extends across all fi elds we serve, ranging from telecommunications and renewable energy cables to bulk excavations and surface mining. In surface mining, for instance, Tesmec trencher technology can eliminate multiple crushing steps in the process, thereby simplifying logistics and operations. What are the ecological benefi ts of Tesmec’s technology in sustainable construction construction and environmental compliance? Tesmec Saudi Arabia has consistently prioritised environmental sustainability in its operations. Our technology signifi cantly reduces the number of machines required on job sites, as it outperforms multiple traditional machines. This reduction in machinery not only leads to decreased CO2 emissions but also lowers fuel consumption. Furthermore, Tesmec Saudi Arabia’s products are designed to reduce emissions by 68%, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals for environmental protection and sustainable development. Here are some examples: • Tesmec Rock Hawg and Surface Miner signifi cantly reduce CO2 emissions and fuel consumption by replacing several conventional machines. It also eliminates the need for explosives, eff ectively controls dust and noise, minimises vibrations and shocks and wastes less water. • Our latest innovation, the 1875 EVO chainsaw, is the largest trencher Tesmec has ever produced. It not only delivers high production performance but also aids in reducing environmental emissions. Furthermore, trenchers facilitate the elimination of numerous post-digging steps by integrating various stages of the excavation process. The material extracted during excavation can be repurposed as a cover for the excavated area, thus having a positive impact on the environment. Explain the new technologies in Tesmec’s trenchers, and how do they meet construction industry needs, particularly for renewable energy and distributed generation? Tesmec consistently prioritises technological innovation to address the ever-changing demands of the construction industry, particularly in sectors such as renewable energy distribution. The advanced technologies integrated into Tesmec’s trenchers position these machines at the forefront of the market. Advanced technologies include: • Detection and Mapping Solutions: These enable 3D mapping of both below and above ground environments. • TrenchTronic: This is an automatic trenching technology with self-diagnostic capabilities. • TrenchIntel: A 3D-GPS automatic guidance system that can precisely control machine steering, trajectory, and trenching depth. • Re.M: Technology for remote monitoring and reporting. • Smart Tracker: An as-built data recorder that operates while the machine is trenching. How does Tesmec’s trenching equipment surpass traditional methods in cost-eff ectiveness and operational capabilities? Tesmec’s trenchers off er signifi cant cost- eff ectiveness due to several factors. Fewer machines mean reduced expenses on tools, fuel, and personnel, as on-site labour needs decrease. The quality and reliability of our trenchers also allow for optimised maintenance, reducing operational downtime. Additionally, the use of original, high-quality spare parts extends service life and lessens maintenance frequency. A notable example is the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) project in Saudi Arabia. Here, the 1475 Rock Hawg EVO signifi cantly cut construction time, achieving a target volume of 3,000,000m3 of bulk excavated rock. A single operator-driven surface miner can replace 15 excavators, producing up to 1,200m3 per shift. This effi ciency is further enhanced as the machine produces crushed material ready for backfi lling, eliminating extra crushing and hauling steps, thus saving time and costs. Tesmec’s trenchers are highly reliable and versatile, adapting to various conditions and applications Tesmec prioritises technological innovation to address the construction industry’s demands42 DECEMBER 2023 | INTERVIEW | TIME TO SHINE Atif Rahman, Founder and Chairman of ORO24, delves into his journey within the Dubai real estate industry, driven by a steadfast commitment to quality and innovation Amidst the dynamic landscape of Dubai’s real estate industry, Atif Rahman, the Founder and Chairman of ORO24 Real Estate Development, stands as a testament to what sheer determination and a commitment to excellence can achieve. In a candid interview with ORO24’s visionary leader, we delve into his remarkable journey from a small-town upbringing to the helm of a thriving real estate empire. “My life has revolved around being with the best people at the best place at the best time doing the best thing,” says Rahman, refl ecting on his humble beginnings in Bihar, India. He fi rmly believes that his upbringing in a small town with limited distractions instilled an unwavering desire to make it big. He says that it was his grandfather and father who taught him the values and virtues that guide him today. “I come from a family of extremely qualifi ed engineers, who lived their lives fi nding solutions. This helps me solve complex matters with ease.” Rahman’s life took a transformative turn when he arrived in Dubai nearly two decades ago, just as the city was beginning to fl ourish. “I don’t think I would have achieved even half of what I have today if I was not part of this great city,” he acknowledges. Dubai’s unwavering support and unparalleled opportunities have played a pivotal role in his success. The inception of ORO24, followed a period of adversity brought about by unexpected challenges during the pandemic. He believes that his ability to convert adversity into opportunity propelled him to launch ORO24, a venture dedicated to redefi ning the real estate landscape in Dubai. “I am on a mission to create the most prolifi c real estate corporation under my latest venture.” The company has launched four residential projects to date, TORINO, LEVANTO, ELANO, and KYOTO, among other developments, including the fi rm’s headquarters. BUILDING RESILIENCE Rahman’s approach to business is fi rmly centred on people and value creation. “My knowledge, experience, vision, drive, and ability are net- zero if I do not have my team to execute the plans,” he emphasises. Recognising that employees spend a signifi cant portion of their lives at the workplace, he prioritised the creation of a headquarters that refl ects his commitment to their well-being. I aspire to build it as a community where people prosper. “I think before everything else you have to be genuine, consistent, and selfl ess,” Rahman advises fellow entrepreneurs aspiring to build people-centric brands. “It’s a value system and requires a tremendous amount of discipline, which cannot happen overnight and comes with its own set of challenges, so you got to be ready for that.” Rahman’s remarks that his past experiences have profoundly infl uenced his approach to ORO24. “While remaining open to learning daily, I collectively apply my experience and knowledge in building the organisation.” He emphasises the importance of learning from others’ mistakes, considering “what not to do” as important as “what to do.” He also stresses the importance of continual evolution and innovation in a rapidly changing world. “I believe every human must learn from the past and keep reinventing; that’s what I try to apply in my daily routine.” The developer’s inaugural project, TORINO by ORO24, was a resounding success, setting the stage for further achievements. “Since then, we have launched several projects, and our portfolio is almost 2,500 units spread across six projects.” He insists that his meticulous approach to project development involves over 40 revisions on average, ensuring each project aligns with the company’s passion for innovation and excellence.
