Judges commended the winner for its innovative approach to smart technologies, its ability to develop design intent, manage multiple specialist disciplines and stakeholders, when delivering complex fit-out projects. A part of the ALEC Group, ALEC FITOUT specialises in the fit-out and refurbishment of five-star hotels and resorts, cultural, immersive and luxury mixed-use developments in the Middle East and North Africa. The company has been associated with the delivery of several pavilions and structures at the Expo 2020 Dubai. These include Opportunity Pavilion, DP World Pavilion, ENOC Pavilion, Mobility Pavilion, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Pavilion, among others. Killa Design competed against some of the biggest international design and architecture firms in the region. These include Hoehler + alSalmy; U+A; Godwin Austen Johnson (GAJ); Freeline Engineering Consultants; DLR Group; tangramGulf; Dewan Architects + Engineers; and DSA Architects International. Judges applauded the firm for its "innovative" approach to smart technologies, as well as prioritising sustainable, futuristic, and aesthetic design when working on its projects. Additionally, the judges said that Killa Design stood out among the shortlisted companies for adopting "new methods" to resolve architectural problems. Killa Design picked the trophy for this category for a second time in a row, since it was introduced at the Construction Week Awards last year. Another brand new category for this year is the Fire Consultant of the Year. This category has been introduced for fire consultants to share their achievements while implementing innovative and dynamic approaches to mitigate fire threats across their project pipeline over the past 12 months. The winner is an independent firm of fire safety designers, engineers, consultants, and technology solutions specialists. It has been known for providing digital fire safety inspection solutions to its clients. According to the company, its approach to fire safety is based on integrated fire delivery bringing multidisciplinary and specialist fire engineering knowledge to each project through all stages. With offices in London and Belfast in the UK; Derry, Ireland; Dubai, UAE; and Boston, the US, Joule Group was responsible for the fire and life safety strategy for the Luxembourg Pavilion at the Expo 2020 Dubai. The jury praised the Joule Group for its technical and analytical skills in supporting the projects it has been associated with. The judges were impressed by the company's experience and expertise in eradicating high costs, saving time, and preventing unnecessary damage to buildings and facilities. This category was another fiercely contested category that saw nominations from across the region. A total of eleven companies battled to the top. According to the judges, Voltas Limited stood out from its competitors for the top prize for delivering highly complex, quality projects.
