Despite a extremely challenging 2020, I’m so proud of what we have achieved over the last 12 months. We have proven that whatever is thrown at us (even a global health crisis), we won’t let anything stand in our way of success. Looking back on my Editor Letter columns in 2020, the piece that really stands out for me was titled: “Change is only the constant” and this could not be more true as Construction Week will changing like never before. You may have heard from our announcement at the end of November and at the extremely successful Construction Week Awards 2020 that we will be introducing a paywall to our website from January 2021. For $5.99 a month, readers will be able to unlock unlimited access to Construction Week Online and continue to enjoy the market-leading content we strive to create. This move is recognition of Construction Week’s status as the most authoritative media brand for the construction sector in the region – and the leading platform for showcasing the industry’s many achievements, challenges and opportunities. The paywall will enable the team to invest further in our content while also helping to provide a more sustainable revenue model, one driven by our loyal audience rather than our advertisers. This step has not been taken lightly, but the data suggests that in order to enhance and deliver our content effectively and successfully, a move away from the advertiser-led model of the past represents the best means of protecting the future of our brand. Our move reflects the new reality of the media industry: we’ve seen the decline of revenues from advertisers and print circulations over the past few years, while witnessing the successful roll out of subscription-based channels such as Netflix and Amazon Prime. Construction Week has gone from strength to strength as a brand in recent years. We have grown our reputation through a greater emphasis on original, exclusive and engaging interviews, webinars, thought leadership content and virtual events. Our goal is to keep pushing forward in the same manner, keep producing the best stories on the subjects that matter to you. We have also invested time into understanding our readership and how they consume our products in order to improve how we deliver a personalised and more enriched experience. While a number of articles will be available to visitors to the site or those who register their details, only full subscribers will be able to access our diverse range of multimedia content. For just a price of a cup of coffee, users can stay abreast of all the latest news, analysis and data from our essential industry. I would like to thank you for your support and commitment since the establishment of our brand more than 15 years ago, and I look forward to continuing our journey together. Why Construction Week is going behind a paywall For $5.99 per month, we will provide content that maintains our reputation as the most authoritative media brand for construction within the region “OUR GOAL IS TO KEEP PUSHING FORWARD AND KEEP PRODUCING THE BEST STORIES ON THE SUBJECTS THAT MATTER TO YOU” Ashley Williams Editorwww.middleeast-energy.com | Explore.
