Our judges were impressed with the active steps AESG has taken to take on the universal call to arms to make Net Zero a reality in the construction industry. Multiplex were appointed as the main contractor of the project and our judges were impressed with their use of best practices and implementing industry- firsts into construction processes. In addition, the judges appreciated them for taking the whole life cycle of the building into consideration, including the FM end-user management, during the construction of the project. Commenting on the award, the CEO of ICD Brookfield, Rob Devereux, said: "From a building perspective, we set out to deliver the best office in the region and I believe that we've achieved that. "The building was completed during a challenging time. The Dubai Harbour development will be a major mixed used development sited off the coast of Dubai providing two terminal buildings with two cruise liner berths, a marina consisting of 1,100 berths, dock master buildings, a yacht club, residential towers and a landmark Light House. Judge praised Kier for delivering “a stunning development” which overcame a number of construction challenges. Douglas OHI was commended for its Autism Awareness & Education initiative which offers a range of support services for autistic children, including counselling sessions, early communication intervention, and activity-based learning modules. Our judges believed that the initiative was a “bold and creative” choice and it was “rare” to see a construction company create such a noble campaign. Douglas OHI’s campaign also won the CSR Initiative of the Year for Construction Week’s Oman Awards in September 2020. Commenting on the winning initiative, Autism Education and Awareness Initiative, Douglas OHI’s general manager, Aaron Hennessey told CW: "The winning initiative is to do with raising awareness about autism; it's an area that people should pay more attention to." Judges were wowed when they saw this submission which they said brings “a novel concept to life” and is sympathetic to its surroundings particularly for its residents. They added that the development was a beautifully designed residential development, with great views of the sea, as well as being energy- and cost- efficient. Commenting on picking up the award, CRTKL's associate director, Geoff Ford, said: "It's been a long job; we've been involved in this job for the last seven years and it's fantastic to be recognised for the work we've put on the project. "The clients - Aldar - have been amazing, and it's been wonderful to be involved right from the design process with them. Even during the construction process, it was really great to be involved with them."
