Also included in the UK contractor’s deal are infrastructure services such as deep pumping stations, and site-wide logistics comprising the establishment of security access control systems for vehicles, staff entry, and operatives. Additionally, Kier won the $54.5m (AED200m) infrastructure works Package 2 contract for Shamal Development’s Nad Al Sheba project. The contract covers earthworks, road networks, the installation of deep and shallow services, three pumping stations, and 14km of drainage and sewerage rising mains that connect the plot to Dubai Municipality networks. The architecture and design firm marked ten years of its service and operations in the sultanate in 2019. 77 Marching forward in terms of construction works on its massive $5bn The Heart of Europe project is property developer Kleindienst Group led by Josef Kleindienst. The developer has confirmed that it is on track to deliver Phase 1 of the project, which remains completely free from the novel coronavirus, and is “among the safest tourism destinations in the world.” Kleindienst Group remains committed to deliver the first phase of the project by October 2020. The master-planned leisure tourism island destination features Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, and the Main Europe island; floating ‘seahorses’, which are three-level floating homes offering underwater views, as well as the Italian-themed five-star facility, Portofino Hotel. The Heart of Europe project will also feature the world’s first floating smart police station, as part of a joint partnership with Dubai Police. Kleindienst Group has maintained that sustainability remains at the core of the project. The developer launched the Coral Institute initiative to protect and expand the marine life and environment. The South Korean contractor completed construction work worth approximately $2.6bn (KWD790m) on the 48.5km long Kuwait Sheikh Jaber Causeway in the past 12 months. The causeway was built using latest civil engineering and environmentally- friendly technologies; it will serve as the new development “gate” for Kuwait, linking Kuwait City with the under-construction Silk City. In addition, the company was picked by Saudi Arabian oil giant Saudi Aramco for work on its Marjan Development Programme in 2019, alongside American contractor McDermott and Italy’s Saipem as well as India’s Larsen & Toubro and China’s Sinopec. The contract handover to Hyundai Engineering & Construction was part of 34 additional contracts, all of which were valued at $18bn (SAR67.5bn) for Saudi Aramco’s Marjan and Berri oil field increment programmes. Airolink Building Contracting was established in 2001 as an Irish company, and entered the UAE in 2008. Dr Pillai was awarded the UAE’s Gold Card permanent residency permit in 2019. In the same year, he was appointed by the United Nations as a UN counsellor. He has also been named as Consultant by the International Committee for the Protection of Human Rights, and is also a recipient of a diplomat passport. Furthermore, Dr Pillai has won several awards in the region for his pioneering role in the construction industry. AR Suresh Kumar, vice president and head IOBG at Tata enterprise Voltas, debuted in the Power 100 list in 2019. He joined the Indian conglomerate in 1995, and has catapulted the company to great heights since, by initially handling business development, project delivery, and profit and losses for the company, and now overseeing all activities as well as the International Operations Business Group (IOBG). In 2019, Voltas reported a consolidated total income of $554m for H1 FY, marking an increase of 15% YoY. The company’s consolidated total income for Q2 FY saw a 2% YoY growth and was valued at $197.6m. The Oman-based construction company is a strong proponent of health and safety awareness and has conducted several campaigns for its employees covering topics such as plant and equipment safety; fire extinguishing training; safe lifting operations; excavation and soil backfilling safety; fire drills; and water conservation. The campaigns also include non-technical pertinent topics such as support service for autistic children; women empowerment; and on an increasingly relevant note, the company has been rolling out series of COVID-19 campaigns for its employees. Douglas OHI recently completed the successful handover of the SS-492 Building on the Duqm Refinery Project EPC1, dust free. Linh Austin, who is the company’s senior vice president for its Middle East and North African region, has climbed ten places on the Construction Week Power 100 list for 2020. In 2019, McDermott stated it noted a “record-level order intake” during the second quarter. The American contracting heavyweight attributed the majority of its Q2 2019 revenue worth $399m to its Saudi Aramco megaprojects. These included Safaniya Phases 5 and 6 and engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) contracts valued at $4.5bn (SAR16.8bn) for Packages 1 and 4 of its Marjan Increment Development. McDermott International won a contract in October 2019, valued between $50m (SAR187.5m) and $250m (SAR937.7m), for supply and works on Amrial Complex in Saudi Arabia from Saudi Aramco and Total Raffinage Chimie (Total). In February 2020, the EPCI giant along with Saudi Aramco broke ground on KSA’s SAFIRA fabrication yard. McDermott has been working on the Industries’ Liwa Plastic Industries Complex (LPIC). The project recently entered its performance testing stage, having noted 98% completion on construction and recorded 121.5 million lost time injury-free (LTI) man-hours on-site as of March 2020. Alan Talabani has led the company’s Middle East operations since his appointment as managing director. Turner & Townsend recently carried out the project management, design management, contract administration, as well as planning and health and safety consultancy services on an expansion programme for Khazna Data Centres – expanding its existing facilities in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The company has been efficiently and consistently delivering project management services for Khazna, which is majority-owned by state arm Mubadala Investment Company, over a span of the past five years. In November 2019, the company was picked by Al Futtaim Group Real Estate to deliver planning and project control works on its 35,000m2 Ikea outlet, which opened in the UAE in December 2019. In 2019, Aurecon became one of the first organisations globally to achieve the BSI Kitemark certification for Building Information Modelling (BIM) in design for new international standards.
