For 1886, the Riyadh-based label that initiated a streetwear movement in the Kingdom when it launched in 2016, merging the worlds of high fashion and the everyday has shaped its aesthetic from day one. “We were aiming to honour hard- working individuals from various fi elds who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty… to refl ect the spirit of human labour and determination,” remarks co-founder Fahad Al- Jomiah of the brand’s offering of checked shirts, camo pants, duster coats and quilted bombers, styled with construction-site-ready gloves, ropes and toolboxes. A standout ‘Buffer’ jacket crafted in “advanced materials” and featuring intricate stitching “pays homage to the resilience of the working class,” notes Fahad, “and represents the fusion of functionality, durability and style.” Denim – that classic workwear staple – elevated with utilitarian pocket detail, proved equally successful. Ordinary at fi rst glance but extraordinary in construction, 1886 has perfected the wearability formula. 1886 304-333_VISION_VOL2_RFW_MENSWEAR-MS.indd 31019/04/2024 13:18311 304-333_VISION_VOL2_RFW_MENSWEAR-MS.indd 31119/04/2024 13:18312312 304-333_VISION_VOL2_RFW_MENSWEAR-MS.indd 31219/04/2024 13:18313 304-333_VISION_VOL2_RFW_MENSWEAR-MS.indd 31319/04/2024 13:19“We are more than just a fashion brand; we are a movement, a lifestyle, and a vision for the future” – bold claims from Mazrood’s founder, Saud Alajaji. Having studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, Saud returned to Riyadh to create this new take on the classics. His label has big aspirations, with its StreetSophistique show revealing an extensive collection, covering all bases from slick tailoring to off-duty casuals. The house of Mazrood offered sharp tailoring in contemporary colourways, worn shirtless for a clean, modern mood. A double-down denim aesthetic and pastel-coloured puffer jackets amped up the streetwear volume, while accessories included leather pouches with neon accents and mittens dangling from cosy jackets. The label’s unisex designs have caught the eye of international admirers, including Brazilian footballer Anderson Talisca, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand and actor Ed Westwick, who recently rocked one of the label’s suits at the Red Sea International Film Festival. With its fusion of tailored elegance and edgy casualwear, Mazrood’s manifesto proves that rules are meant to be broken.
