This precious fl ower, which grows in the north of the Kingdom, was a central theme of Atelier Hekayat’s latest runway collection. Talented sisters Alia and Abeer Oraif were inspired by the art and beauty of their beloved country to create an extensive collection of runway-to- red-carpet looks. The spectacular show – I’m Coming Home – was a tribute to their late father, an interior designer who passed away three years ago. “We dedicate our success to him,” explain Alia and Abeer. Atelier Hekayat’s designs have already proven a hit with the glitterati, with celebrities Fatima Al-Banawi, Mila Al Zahrani and Alanoud Badr, plus supermodels Helena Christensen and Coco Rocha wearing their show- stopping styles. “Our story starts with love and ends with love,” reveal the sisters of their collection’s romantic colour scheme. A lesson in pastel perfection, its feminine silhouettes in pistachio and ivory tones provided a cool contrast to the gothic drama of black lace and acres of tulle. Each fl amboyant design demanded the spotlight – and deservedly so. Clean lines were interrupted with ruffl es, fl owers and embellishments, eyes were drawn to toned shoulders and deep-cut décolletages, while retaining coverage with streamlined sleeves, dramatic capes and acres of fabric train gliding down the runway. Designer Shouq Almubarak’s collection, Eternity, created a 3D fl oral moment, with decadent yet delicate fl oral decorations adorning blush-pink blooms on an ivory bridal dress to tone-on-tone appliqués on the monochromatic pieces. This confi dent collection put an emphasis on romance, beauty and elegance, while reinterpretations of the cape dress continue to be one of Pavone’s most recognisable house codes. Shouq’s talents haven’t gone unnoticed, with infl uencer Rahaf Al-Harbi an A-list admirer who often wears the designer’s gowns at red carpet events, including the recent Pavone show. By tempering appliqué profusions with sharply cut silhouettes and rendering ruffl es more muted thanks to subdued palettes, Shouq has proved she understands the resolutely modern art of balance. Expertly combining luxurious fabrics and intricate craftsmanship with a perfect palette of soft sand, sky blue and ballet-slipper pink, Nour’s bold structural shapes were complemented by her signature tapestry detailing and luxe hand embroidery. A love letter to her homeland, she illustrated the beauty of the country, from the breathtaking colours of the deserts of Najd to the heritage roses found in Asir. “I was keen to highlight every detail in designs that tell the history of these areas,” she shares, proving that celebrating the unique landscapes and heritage is at the forefront of her work. “I design for an audience who prefers timelessness over trends and who is looking for a modern voice with traditional elements,” she reveals, citing Lama Alakeel, Yasmine Sabri and Shiraz as the label’s muses. After a decade designing for strong, independent women, regional retailers, and a show in Paris, her Riyadh Fashion Week show proved that Nour Aldhahri is ready for the rest of the world to take note.
