< PreviousThe HST 30 range offers a cost-effective, effi cient and reliable solution for aeration applications Sulzer has extended its HST 30 range of turbocompressors with the addition of two new models. The HST 30-58-8 and HST 30-38-2 offer increased fl ow and pressure respectively for applications in the waste- water industry. Together with a new, larger motor, the HST 30 range offers a cost- effective, effi cient and reliable solution for aeration applications. There are countless designs for aeration tanks and membrane bioreactors that each have their own requirements in terms of air supply. The size and depth of the tank will often defi ne the specifi cations for the turbocompressor; traditional, shallower designs can utilize greater airfl ows while deeper tanks require high pressures of air. For wastewater treatment plants aiming to upgrade their aeration facilities but retain shallower tanks, the HST 30-58-8 of- fers improved effi ciency at lower pressures up to 75 kPa (10.5 psig) with an extended fl ow envelope up to 15’000 Nm3/h (9’400 SCFM). This model is also well-suited to the task of scouring membranes in membrane bioreactors (MBRs). For some sites, both old and new-build, space constraints can mean that aeration tanks are deeper, with a smaller surface area. In these cases, the turbocompressor needs to deliver a higher pressure to ensure an effi cient process. For these applications, the HST 30-38-2 offers increased operating pressures up to 130 kPa (18.9 psig); the fl ow is correspondingly lower at 10’000 Nm3/h (6’500 SCFM). The HST 30 range has also benefi tted from a new 350 kW (450 hp) electric motor which will be fi tted to the top-of-the-range models. This offers greater fl ow rates and peak operating pressures with the HST 30-46 performance being boosted to 12’400 Nm3/h (7’900 SCFM). As with all of Sulzer’s turbocompressors, the entire unit, including the electric motor and electronic controls are all designed and manufactured in-house. Sulzer has an excellent reputation for reliability in turbocompressor applications, with many units having been in operation for over 20 years. As these, and other units, are considered for refurbishment or upgrading, the HST 30 series offers several benefi ts in terms of effi ciency and perfor- mance as well as integration with the latest communications protocols. Sulzer HST 30 range Rotork announces new Digital Smart Positioner Suitable for all markets, the new digital smart positioner is appropriate for both control and on/off valve applications where enhanced diagnostics are required. It is ideal for highly critical applications in chemical/petrochemical processes. The YT-3700 and YT-3750 pneumatic smart positioners employ continuous moni- toring and graphic display of valve position, set point target over time and internal circuit board temperature over time. With single and double-acting confi gura- tions available, they provide reliable control of pneumatic valve systems for linear and rotary applications. Valve diagnostic information to NE107 standard is provided, with Hart® 7 com- munication protocol included as standard and a display for all settings and local device interaction. Commissioning can be handled locally without the need of an additional device, all indications are clear and simple to follow thanks to the clear visual identifi ca- tion on the local display and the four push buttons. The enhanced diagnostic package offers position over time continuous monitoring, and graphical visualisation trough Device Description (DD) and Device Type Manager (DTM) fi les. Additionally, valve signature, advanced step tests and Partial Stroke Testing (PST) can be operated from local or remote positions. Auto-tuning functionality and non-contact sensor are included for high frequency operating valves. The TAL 0473 is the latest addition to the range based on the .3 platform. It replaces the TAL 047 and benefi ts from improved performance The TAL 0473 delivers a nominal power between 400 and 660 kVA at 50 Hz (from 495 to 825 kVA at 60 Hz). The alternator features a SHUNT excitation system and an R150 regulator as standard. An AREP+ auxiliary winding excitation system with R180 regulator version is also available to further improve transient performances and provide high overload capacities. It is interchangeable with the TAL 047 (shaft height and feet confi guration), and can therefore be coupled with all diesel engines on the market for this power range. TAL 0473 by Nidec Leroy-Somer The TAL 0473 will be available for orders in April 2020. The TAL 0473 offers the following power nodes: - 400, 410, 455, 500, 550, 600 and 660 kVA at 50 Hz - 495, 510, 570, 625, 690, 750 and 825 kVA at 60 Hz Like the entire TAL product range, the TAL 0473 is suitable for all electric power genera- tion applications, excepted marine. It delivers high performance, thus offering new possi- bilities to manufacturers of generator sets. The TAL 0473 offers an effi ciency of up to 94.9% at cos 0.8, which ranks it among the best in the category. Thanks to the new AREP+ excitation system, the TAL 0473 also offers improved transient performance, especially with start-up kVA improve- ments of up to + 15%. The “.3” technological platform was fi rstintroduced in 2010, allowing signifi cant perfor- mance improvements. Decisions being taken now to address the social and economic impacts of the crisis come amid pro- found uncertainty about both the course of the pandemic and its long-term ramifi cations for soci- eties across the world. The immediate priority remains to save as many lives as possible, bring the health emergency under control and alleviate hardship. At the same time, governments are embarking on the monumental task of devising stimulus and recovery packages. These are at a scale to shape societies and econo- mies for years to come. This response must align with medium- and long-term priorities. The goals set out in the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement can serve as a compass to stay on course during this dis- orienting period. They can help to ensure that the short-term solutions adopted in the face of COVID- 19 are in line with medium- and long-term develop- ment and climate objectives. Stimulus and recovery packages can also accel- erate the shift to sustainable, decarbonised econ- omies and resilient inclusive societies. A coherent design approach is needed to secure political buy- in, business support and social acceptance. As the current crisis makes clear, we can no longer aff ord to make policy decisions and investments in isola- tion amid elaborately intertwined social, economic and environmental challenges. The fundamentally economic, more than fi nan- cial, nature of this crisis calls for a major state role in the response. This involves defi ning the strategies and initiating direct interventions for the way out. Expansionary budget policies may be envisaged to Final Word In the wake of Covid-19, stimulus and recovery packages can accelerate the shift to sustainable, decarbonised economies, says Francesco La Camera, IRENA Director-General support this eff ort. Stimulus and recovery measures in response to the pandemic must foster economic development and job creation, promote social equity and welfare, and put the world on a climate-safe path. By making the energy transition an integral part of the wider recovery, governments can achieve a step change in the pursuit of a healthy, inclusive, prosperous, just and resilient future. Energy transitions are already underway in many countries. These transitions have become increas- ingly aff ordable because of forward-looking policy frameworks, ongoing innovations and falling tech- nology costs for renewables. Solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind power have become the cheapest sources of electricity in many markets, with other renewable power sources poised to reach cost parity within a few years. In the power sector, renewables have dominated new capacity additions and increasingly outpaced fossil fuels for the past seven years. Last year alone, renewables accounted for nearly three quarters of global power capacity additions. The economic fallout from the pandemic is far- reaching, with an adverse impact on many sectors including renewables. For many reasons, however, the impact may be diff erent than in other economic sectors. Governments can turn to a renewables-based energy transition to bring a range of solutions at this diffi cult moment. Many renewable technologies can be ramped up relatively quickly, helping to revive industries and create new jobs. Decentralised solutions tend to be comparatively labour-intensive. Adopting renewables can therefore create employment and boost local income in both developed and developing energy markets. Decentral- ised technologies also allow for greater involvement by citizens and communities in energy decisions. Published by and © 2020 ITP MEDIA Group FZ-LLC.
