Mine always starts with a trip to the coffee machine to bring me back to life — without that first cup I’m basically an uncharged phone. If your AM routine doesn’t include caffeine, we may not be friends (yet). Saying this, I have dabbled with the idea of doing more with my morning routine. Dubai is packed with people achieving some pretty special stuff before their 9-5s, from networking over a sky-high breakfast to Pilates on the beach at sunrise, your wake- up time needn’t be mundane. Besides, you know you can do better than your apartment gym. Whether you let your plus one know or head along solo, I’m convinced you will see your days differently by giving one of these activities a go. You just need to set that alarm (and froth the milk). facebook.com/timeoutdubai youtube.com/timeoutgcc timeoutdubai timeoutdubai timeoutdubai Ed’s pick Emilie Hill Editor Winter mode is officially on, with plenty of newness. If that’s the kind of thrill you live for, these races deserve a spot on your calendar. On Saturday November 1 and Sunday November 2, Spartan Race and Tough Mudder are taking over Wadi Hub, Hatta, for the Dubai Fitness Challenge 2025. The two races may have different settings, but you’ll be feeling this weekend long after the mud’s rinsed out of your socks. Which race will you sign up for? You’ll be charging through Wadi Hub with Hatta’s rugged mountains as your backdrop. Expect obstacles built to test your grit and heaps of fun on the side – not a bad way to spend the weekend. Spartan takes place on Saturday with the short yet brutal 5km Sprint Partner content and the 10km Super that dials up the grind. Runners who’d rather skip the obstacles can hit the 10km or 21km trail races, and the kids’ versions allow the little ones to join the action. Climbing walls, swinging on ropes, crawling under barbed wire – the Spartan races are already challenging. But come Sunday, Tough Mudder turns that grit up several notches will surely put you through your paces. Testing your mental grit and aptitude for camaraderie, this one isn’t about your personal best. So it doesn’t matter whether you’re a first-timer or an athlete. You can opt for the 5km or the 15km, which brings the infamous obstacles like ice baths, electric wires and plenty of boggy terrain that will swallow your trainers whole. And remember, this is a race where teamwork matters more than your stopwatch. Work those quads as you conquer gruelling obstacles in the Spartan Race and the Tough Mudder at Hatta Scan to book tickets Use TIMEOUT20 for 20% off Race like there’s no tomorrow Ready for a family-day out? When you’re out of the race, you can check out The Festival Village at Wadi Hub with the rest of the fam. It will be buzzing with food trucks, family-friendly entertainment and special pop-ups across both days, making it a solid day out even if your idea of endurance is holding onto a shawarma. Plus, with the gorgeous Hatta mountains as your backdrop, you’ll enjoy stunning views. Ready for a muddy, gritty and unforgettable weekend?
