Pitfire Pizza66 MONTH 2025 TIMEOUTDUBAI.COM Discover Rose & Dates and more scents at joloves.com. the last word Every issue we let someone else have the final say. For November, it’s over to Jo Malone CBE, British perfumer, founder and creative director of Jo Loves What does Dubai do better than anywhere else in the world? The reason I came here is the opportunity – people dream really big here. They dream it and they make it happen. I love the adventure I’m living. What’s a Dubai restaurant dish that’s changed your life? I love Bu Qtair – it has plastic chairs and you choose your fish. It’s not grand in any way, but it’s the most wonderful restaurant. Where’s your favourite place to take visitors? We love Time Out Market and we often go. It’s great because I’m always greedy and want to eat two or three different things. Where’s the best place to switch off? I love the beach near me in Jumeirah. I sit and I think and I people-watch. I sit in the pool in an inflatable chair and float backwards and forwards, watching people. What’s a motto you live by? The quote that brought me to Dubai was from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, “We shall plant the trees for the next generation to enjoy the shade”. Which perfume reminds you of Dubai? I created one three years ago, and I’m the only one who wears it. Only 100 bottles were made, and we don’t sell it. I created it on the beach, which I call my ‘blue office’. Notes include the skin of an orange, oud, vetiver, cedarwood and rose petal. It’s very clean. What’s a daily non- negotiable that helps you feel your best self? In the morning, I like to make to-do lists in my notebook. I like to be on my own with a fresh juice, two bottles of water and a cup of English breakfast tea. Once the list is done, I will then smell [testers] for an hour. Which scent is your favourite for special occasions? We just created Rose & Dates, and it’s very evening. You can tell by my last four fragrances that the Middle East has really influenced what I am doing. She’s very rich and regal. Next >
