Fresh seafood that’s served on a tiered platter, of course. Luckily for shy fans, Dubai has a strong line-up of seafood restaurants that take their tiered seafood dishes seriously. Yes, for those searching for magni cent molluscs and shucked oysters, we’ve rounded up the best seafood towers to try while in Dubai (with a few platters thrown in for good measure). Crudo di mare at Alici A visit to Alici will have you questioning whether you’re dining beside the Amal Coast, rather than the Arabian Gulf. That’s especially true when you order one of their stellar seafood towers, of which all the crudo has been shipped in from Italy. The raw Alici crudo di mare with Oscletra caviar (Dhs430) isn’t light on the wallet, but it’s sure worth it – and it’s pretty light on the stomach which we like. Here you’ll nd crudo di mare, featuring a full selection of Mazara prawns, langoustines, scallops, a couple of tartares, oysters and Food Top-tier seafood Tower of London at Geales TO DXB_409_51-53_EO LEADER_Oyster_12592171.indd 2725/08/2022 12:32:57 PM28 September 2022 timeoutdubai.com Cold seafood tower at Lucky Fish prawns, scallop ceviche, oysters, Balik salmon and mussels. If you want French ne dining in Dubai, this is the place to go. Al Muntaha is located at the top of Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, on the 27th oor in a far-reaching dining room lined with slanted glass windows. Picture the oval pod that juts out from the sail-shaped building, appearing to be almost oating – that’s Al Muntaha. The incredible architecture is somewhat let down by the rather dated interior – the carpet matches the wave- inspired ceiling – but it’s cleverly laid out so most tables have a window seat. The design hasn’t changed from when the venue was best known as Skyview Bar, a bucket list destination for every tourist in Dubai, but once the menu is in your hands. we think you’ll look past it. Created by chef Saverio Sbaragli, you’ll choose from French classics like St. Jacques scallops and roasted free range poulette de Bresse, along with plates with an Italian twist, such as the delicate Bottoni, a lled pasta made with Italian Cetica potatoes and served with a Al Muntaha O Licensed. Global Cantonese powerhouse continues to impress WHY GO... For fresh design coupled with food we know and love TRADEMARK TRELLISING, SULTRY furnishings, mood lighting, oh and that Western-leaning Cantonese cuisine we all know and love – yes, this is unmistakably Hakkasan. And it’s still as good as when it moved to dining destination The Avenues at Atlantis, The Palm back in 2018. In fact, it’s better, thanks to a refurbishment in the summer of 2021. The original design had only been temporary as Hakkasan was due to move to Atlantis, The Royal, opening this year, but it is now being replaced there by its sister brand Ling Ling. That means the Atlantis, The Palm Hakkasan address is permanent and as such, now features a new lounge space and offers more secluded dining areas, separated by that familiar dark oak latticing. Dinner at Hakkasan is the kind of occasion that’s typically preceded with a swish mixed drink at the bar, so it’s a welcome improvement. Coinciding with the refurbishment, a number of menu regulars have been revamped to freshen up the restaurant’s offering, but most of the old favourites remain intact (yes, your duck and pomelo salad hasn’t gone anywhere). The supreme dim sum platter is as lavish as ever, with kaf r lime lobster har gau, abalone and chicken shui mai with caviar, conpoy and king crab with morel mushroom and sea urchin scallion dumpling. Teible (pronounced ‘table’) serves up plates as ambitious as its ethos, where an inventive, seasonal selection of dishes are designed around everything from locally caught seafood to hydro-farmed veg. Since throwing open its doors at Jameel Arts Centre in early 2022, Teible (which has a bakery and special breakfast menu) has captured the attention of Dubai’s foodie scene. Releasing menus in three ‘seasons’ that each last four months, there’s always a creative tasting menu, a new selection of pastries in the bakery, and an imaginative bistronomy section where dishes are categorised into various sections including ‘charred’ and ‘sugar’. Prioritising sustainably farmed ingredients, executive chef Carlos Frunze has done an impressive job with the two menus he has released so far. Using only seasonal produce, he has managed to craft dishes that carefully balance avour. Presented with serious artistic air, each of the plates is different. And while it might jar some that there’s no shared cuisine to link the meal together, if you can get past that, you’re in for an interesting experience. À la carte prices are on the higher side, but the selection is quite varied; from sushi to hibachi grill. For those looking for a more authentic Japanese experience, choose the omakase menu and let the chef take control. If you choose the dessert platter, expect a show that is de nitely good enough to share. Puffs of dry ice drift around jiggly Japanese cheesecake under a miniature bonsai tree and whisps of cotton candy. Presentation is on point. This applies to many of the dishes, which look and taste great, though portions are on the modest side. But you’re not just here for the food.
