Lovely as it is, though, the heat prevents us from rolling out the blankets and dining al fresco in September unless we’re eating well after sunset. Which is where Sheikha Fatima Park comes in. A green space in the heart of the city, Sheikha Fatima Park has quickly become one of our favourite spots to escape to when the hustle and bustle gets too much since opening back in December 2021. It’s also home to some brilliant foodie options. Whether you’re just popping in for a quick coffee and some baked goods, a delicious lunch or dinner, this space has it all. And you can always grab stuff to go when picnic weather hits. COFFEE SHOPS AND CAFÉS CHOCOLATE REPUBLIC CAFÉ One of several cafés in the park, Chocolate Republic Café appeals to an international palate, serving up French and Italian classics, Indian favourites, and authentic Arab dishes. But, of course, with a name like Chocolate Republic, what you really need to order here is one of the outrageously good sweet options, from chocolate-covered proÀteroles and hot chocolate topped with mini marshmallows to crunchy golden wafÁes lashed with delicious milk chocolate and sprinkled with pistachios. This boutique café is built on three pillars: good coffee, even better home-baked goods, and community (you can say it’s like the Central Perk of the park). Go for a coffee and stay for the day chatting or working remotely while tucking into favourites like the cinnamon apple wafÁes, açaí bowls and potato soup served in a bread bowl. Art murals Another lovely feature of the green space is the massive art murals you can see all around the park, including Curious Puppies by award- winning Chinese artist Jack Lee, complete with ropes which make it seem as if you are walking the dogs. Bark Park One of the park’s main attractions is Bark Park – a dedicated dog park where two- and four-legged friends can bond and play unleashed. Dice Board Game Café For those who’d rather Áex their grey matter than their biceps, there’s always Dice Board Game Café. The specialty coffee shop does not only serve exceptional coffee made from the best beans roasted fresh on site, but also delicious fare. One of several branches in the city, you can expect plates including avocado on toast, eggs benedict croissants and granola yoghurt for breakfast, plus burrata salad, mac and cheese balls and crispy chicken bao buns for later on in the day. STREET 9 CAFÉ Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Street 9 Café serves up classics with a twist – all made with the freshest ingredients for maximum Áavour. You’re spoiled for choice, but we’re big fans of the corn ribs, the NYC burger and Mama’s prawn curry. THE CAFÉ AT FLEUROLOGY While you may be familiar with Fleurology and its pretty Áoral creations already, you might not know that there is also a café attached to the Áower shop at Sheikha Fatima Park. The Café at Fleurology is the perfect spot to grab a hot or cold caffeinated drink and a delicious, sweet bite while you stop, sit back and, quite literally, smell the roses. O Open daily 9am-10pm.
