Tucci is no stranger to cookery shows, having presented two seasons of Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy, and releasing three cookbooks. Now he has his sights set on the beige buffet that is British cuisine. Fingers crossed for an episode based purely on frozen food that reminds you of school lunches. Jon Horbuckle. The best stories from our editors around the globe YOUR WORLD ACCORDING TO TIME OUT GREECE New sustainable city ATHENS IS BEST known for its spectacular ancient charms. But that could soon all be about to change: the Greek capital is set to be home to a hyper-modern mega-city that could be one of the most futuristic settlements on the planet. The project is called the Ellinikon and it’ll make use of over six million sq m of land that was previously used as the city’s airport. Essentially a coastal suburb of Athens – the site is just 20 minutes’ metro ride from the centre of the city – it’ll be built pretty much entirely from scratch. From hotels and ofÀces to residential districts, health facilities and sports venues, the Ellinikon will also feature its own riviera, a marina, a vast park and supposedly the largest retail area in Europe. SWITZERLAND World’s best cheese crowned What makes the greatest cheese in the world? Tangy taste? Creamy consistency? Extra whiffy smell? Over 4,400 cheese from 42 countries competed take the top prize in the World Cheese Awards – and they were all in one room. Imagine the smell, eh? This year’s winner was a gruyère called Le Gruyère AOP surchoix, which was entered by Swiss cheesemaker Vorderfultigen and described by the judges as reÀned and hand-crafted, with tasting notes of herbs, fruits and leather. USA Stranger Things mansion is up for sale A lot of people that caught season four of Stranger Things will probably have had nightmares about being trapped in the creaking, spooky Creel house in which extra- dimensional superbad Vecna sets up his demonic lair. Those people will probably not be interested to know that the real-life house has just gone up for a sale in Rome, Georgia. The mansion, which dates back to 1882, is on the market for cool $1.5 million (Dhs5.5 million). For that money, a buyer will get 6,000 sq ft of Gothic Revival grandeur in East Rome’s historic district – as well as a faint, but spooky aura of NetÁix sci-À-horror lore. Our advice? No telekenesis in the dining room. Phil de Semlyen. POLAND The EU’s tallest building has been completed On the hunt for the highest city views in Europe? Well, there’s a new record-breaking skyscraper in town. A 310-metre tall structure has recently opened in the Polish capital of Warsaw that is now ofÀcially the EU’s tallest building – and it’s got an observation deck that you can actually visit. The building is called Varso Tower and it’s right in the centre of town on the corner of Jana Pawla II and Chmielna Street. Now, you might’ve noticed that we’ve speciÀcally described the Varso as the tallest building in the EU and not the tallest in Europe in general. If you’re looking for Europe’s tallest building, that’ll be the Lakhta Center in St Petersburg, which stands at 462 metres tall. And boy, are there some good ones. From cool cooking techniques to hip ingredients, sustainability-based movements, emerging cuisines and new ways to dine in and out, the next year is going to be a seriously tasty one. Whether you consider yourself a foodie, MasterChef in the making, adventurous eater or foodÁuencer (yes, it’s a thing), check out this round up of 2023 food trend predictions and take note… THE AIR FRYER ISN’T GOING ANYWHERE It’s the device that captured a zeitgeist: how often can you say that about a kitchen Yaupon powder will be readily blended into ice cream bases, smoothies and cake mixes Dates2023 food trends timeoutabudhabi.com December 1 — February 14 19 appliance? With the vast majority of us are trying to eat healthily (some of the time) and save money (all of the time?) the air fryer is the must-have bit of kit of the moment and that isn’t going to change in 2023. In fact, the nifty gadget that offers a lighter alternative to deep fat frying and is more economical to use than an oven is destined to become even more popular. Thanks to TikTok recipes for air fryer cheesecakes, pizza balls and riffs on the Brit classic that is a Greggs sausage roll (IYKYN) have already gone viral, but the predictions are in that come 2023 air frying is going to become increasingly experimental, with all manner of ingredients given the hot-air treatment. Not yet a convert? Add an air fryer to your Chrimbo wish list and get in on the act. DATES WILL GET THE LOVE THEY DESERVE Regional superstars that they are, you don’t need us to tell you that there’s a whole lot to love about the naturally sweet, antioxidant rich, slow-energy release date. 2023 is set to be the year that the rest of the world catches up though. Expect to see plenty of excited chatter about the age-old fruit (resist the urge to roll your eyes knowingly) as dates take a starring role in sweet and savoury sauces, syrups, pastes, condiments and more. Quick tip: if you really want to embrace peak 2023 vibes ahead of the game, get dipping your super crisp and crunchy air fryer French fries in sweet and sticky homemade date ketchup. HEAT GETS DEEP (AND COMPLEX) Ready your tastebuds and prepare to say hello to all things ‘swicy’. The terms used to describe dishes, condiments and ingredients that fuse sweet with heat is coming in hot. From Korean fried chicken (that’s crispy, crunchy fried chicken licked with a strawberry jam and hot sauce combo) to dark chocolate and chill mashups (candy bars, ice cream, dipped almonds), hot honey and dipping sauces galore (Indonesian kecap manis and tangy Filipino sawasan both spring to mind) we’re already licking our lips in anticipation of this culinary craze. WE’LL ALL SAY YALLA TO YAUPON According to American supermarket giant Whole Foods and their annual end of the year market forecast, there’s a new tea in town and it goes by the name of yaupon (pronounced yo-pawn). In truth, there’s nothing new about brewing the caffeinated, native-to-North America plant to make hot beverages — indigenous Americans have been doing so for centuries. In the months to come though the invigorating drink will start to gain wider traction and attract international attention. Yaupon Airfryer Korean fried chickenNext >
