The plant belongs to Rsquared Construction, one of Egypt’s leading privately owned construction and infrastructure companies. It played a crucial role in building the approximately 3km-long Semad Highway connecting Aswan’s industrial estates to the Cairo– Cape Town Highway. Installed in January 2023, the Lintec CSD2500B began production in February and mixed over 300,000 tonnes of asphalt for the project, with an average output of 500 tonnes per day. While impressive, this performance is well within the plant’s capacity, given its ability to deliver between 140 and 160 tonnes per hour (tph) at its maximum. The plant will now be moved to another project, supporting Rsquared’s ambitious business expansion plans. “We bought this plant with the aim of expanding our operations and opening a new branch in Upper Egypt,” explains Mohamed Abdel Raouf Hussein, CEO and founder of Rsquared Construction. “Having the plant there will be a major attraction for projects and will help secure more work in the area.” LINTEC LINNHOFF OFFERS EASE OF DISMANTLING A key reason behind Rsquared’s purchasing decision was the ease with which Lintec CSD models can be dismantled before traveling to the next project. The modular design, built entirely within 100% ISO certifi ed sea containers, lends itself to effi cient, economical transportation, and makes the plants ideal for short- and long-term PROJECT REPORT 32 | OCTOBER 2023plantmachineryvehicles.comPlant / Machinery / Vehiclesprojects. Their fl at, rigid design also speeds up installation by eliminating the need for concrete foundations. Lintec facilitates smooth setup by pre- assembling each plant at the manufacturing stage, before subjecting them to rigorous testing to ensure the highest reliability. In addition, the containerised design provides the internal components with a high level of protection against the elements, while reducing noise and dust emissions. On the Aswan project, one of Rsquared’s challenges was coping with the tropical desert climate, with its harsh, sandy conditions that can easily damage unprotected equipment. But thanks to the intelligent design of the Lintec CSD2500B, there were no such concerns for the contractor, with the mixing plant maintaining the highest-quality production in temperatures that often pass 30 degrees Celsius. Easy access to all levels via walkways and staircases helps to reduce downtime when maintenance is required, while limiting access to one central, lockable security entrance was also Mohamed Abdel Raouf Hussein, CEO and founder, Rsquared. A containerised asphalt plant, Lintec & Linnhoff's Lintec CSD2500B is easy to set up, dismantle and transport. important given the tight space available. “The congestion made it harder for us to work, but we have been involved in the roads and bridges sector since 1981, so it wasn’t a fi rst for us – we have completed many projects under similar conditions,” Hussein continues. The fuel savings provided by the double screen drum technology were another attraction for Rsquared. The combination of heating and screening of minerals in a single process unit, eliminates the need for a hot elevator and vibrating screen, thereby signifi cantly reducing energy costs and maintenance requirements. “This was an essential project for the Aswan Governorate and part of the presidential initiative to provide a higher living standard for the people of Upper Egypt,” adds Tony Chakra, Regional Sales Manager (Middle East & Africa) of Lintec & Linnhoff. “So, in addition to the high equipment “We bought this plant with the aim of expanding our operations and opening a new branch in Upper Egypt. Of course, with our German engineering heritage, Lintec has gained widespread recognition from customers for this, as well as for batching accuracy and mobility performance.” PROJECT REPORT Plant / Machinery / Vehiclesplantmachineryvehicles.comOCTOBER 2023 | 33Y anmar Compact Equipment is celebrating 55 years of its mini-excavator this year, marking a milestone in the path of one of the most successful lines of compact equipment from any manufacturer around the world. The Japanese heavyweight of the lightweight equipment class was among the pioneers of the mini-excavator concept in the late 1960s and is still driving the sector forward, celebrating 55 years of innovation in the segment. In an announcement to mark the 55-year milestone, Yanmar said: “While the Beatles song ‘Hey Jude’ was helping to launch the pop scene in Japanese culture, there was another social phenomenon going on in 1968 Japan. To try to keep up with the remarkable construction boom happening in the country, leading diesel engine manufacturer Yanmar had the brainwave of putting one of its engines into a scaled-down hydraulic excavator. The YNB300 was the result – a wheeled, self-propelled machine that went on to revolutionise the industry. And just like the Beatles, Yanmar CE’s mini-excavators are still proving a hit 55 years later.” After its beginning in Japan, Yanmar is now fi rmly a global brand and one of the best-known exponents of compact equipment worldwide. YANMAR RECORDS 55 YEARS OF ITS MINI-EXCAVATORS Japanese compact equipment specialist makes a song and dance about milestone - quite literally - producing a special jazz number to mark the occasion PRODUCTION MILESTONE 34 | OCTOBER 2023plantmachineryvehicles.comPlant / Machinery / VehiclesCE has been on a relentless drive for technical improvement. Increasingly, this has gone together with sustainability and tackling environmental concerns, with ever lower emissions,” said the company, while announcing the production landmark of its min-excavator. Among Yanmar’s practices that add to its green credentials is recycling. The company has paid extra attention to this aspect in the design and manufacture of its machines, with the result that now, the recyclability of Yanmar machines is in the high 90% - an impressive feat in the world of construction machinery and indeed in the entire engineering manufacture environment. Safety, too, has been a big focus at Yanmar. This is evidenced by several features on the company’s mini-excavators, such as the quick coupler for attachments, which make attaching and detaching of various implements faster and automated, taking away the need to manually fi x the attachments to the machine. Compact excavators are more popular today than ever. The global shift from manual labour to mechanisation continues, as does rapid urbanization leading to ever tighter job-sites. This will ensure the popularity of mini-excavators continues into the future, said Yanmar in its statement, adding that its continues to work closely with customers to meet their needs and ensure their success. STILL MAKING RECORDS Since producing its fi rst mini-excavator, Yanmar has gone on to make records in the segment, such as last year, which saw the company exceed its all- time sales fi gures. But 55 years on, Yanmar is not just breaking records – it is also making records. Of the musical kind. The company has gathered its ‘Yanmar Allstars’ of talented musicians – including Nagaya ‘Dezi’ Akihiro, head of Brand & Design at Yanmar, on the trumpet – to produce a specially written jazz song. Simply called ’55 years’, it is available on Spotify and on all major music platforms. Breaking records, making records, supporting customers. Today – just as back in 1968 – Yanmar CE is still following its motto of ‘Building With You’. The jazz record that commemorates Yanmar’s historic record. “Since producing its fi rst mini-excavator, Yanmar has gone on to make records in the segment, such as last year, which saw the company exceed its all-time sales fi gures. But 55 years on, Yanmar is not just breaking records – it is also making records. Of the musical kind.” And when it comes to compact equipment, one of the defi ning machines in the category is the mini- excavator, which is a prominent part of Yanmar’s line-up, along with compact wheeled loaders, tracked carriers and mini-dumpers, as well as plethora of attachments for compact machinery. Among the most popular models of today in the Yanmar range is the ViO35 and the state- of-the-art all-electric SV17e, which are “the latest iterations of a long line of innovative mini- excavators that Yanmar CE has launched down the years”, said the company. The company’s very fi rst model – the YNB300 - was followed in 1972 by the YB600C, this time on tracks instead of on wheels. This model had a sliding boom that allowed it to excavate right up against walls. By 1974 Yanmar mini-excavators were fi tted with cabins, and noise suppressed to allow them to work in confi ned spaces, residential areas and at night. SETTING THE STANDARD By the mid-1970s Yanmar Construction Equipment’s YB1200 set the basis for the modern mini-excavator. It had a water-cooled diesel engine, could rotate fully 360 degrees and was fi tted with a blade for earthmoving operations. The 1980s saw rubber tracks and sub-one-ton weights, while the 1990s saw the launch of the revolutionary ‘zero tail swing’ concept – which cut collisions and accidents while rotating the superstructure considerably. “Since the turn of the millennium, Yanmar PRODUCTION MILESTONE Plant / Machinery / Vehiclesplantmachineryvehicles.comOCTOBER 2023 | 35presses.
