The project is dedicated to building, operating, and developing a world-class rapid transport network for Riyadh, providing comfortable, aff ordable, and time-saving mobility options for all people living in the city, SNC-Lavalin wrote in a statement. The King Abdulaziz Project for Riyadh public transport will off er intra-city metro services and a comprehensive bus network, the statement noted. Combined, the transport project will have a capacity of 1.7 million passengers daily in the initial operation phase, SNC-Lavalin said. The Riyadh Metro Project, including six lines and 86 metro stations, is the backbone of the public transport network in Riyadh. According SNC-Lavalin Riyadh bus project, including 80 routes and 2,860 bus stations served by 842 buses, is fully integrated with the metro network, connecting the districts of Riyadh with the business and commercial centers. PUBLIC TRANSPORT PROJECT With the capacity to transport over 500,000 passengers, the bus network will serve as a primary means of transportation within residential districts. The King Abdulaziz Public Transport Project began its fi rst phase of operation in March 2023. As part of the contract, which is a joint venture (JV) with Dorsch Holding GmbH, SNC-Lavalin will provide project management and site supervision services for the O&M of the Riyadh bus network, including managing all assets related to the automatic vehicle management (AVM) and automatic fare collection (AFC) systems, and intelligent infrastructure through a computerised maintenance management system (CMMS). By using its digital solutions to analyse the data from the bus tracking system, the company aims to increase the accuracy of the forecast demand to optimise the bus service delivery for the population of Riyadh. In addition, passenger guidance and information system will be used to increase the effi ciency of the network operation, providing passengers with real time updates about their trip and bus schedules. For the past four years, SNC-Lavalin has successfully delivered program management and supervision services for the O&M of Riyadh Metro, which is the largest public transport network project in the world. “The King Abdulaziz Public Transport Project is one of the most ambitious plans set by RCRC to provide integrated transport solutions, reduce carbon footprint, and enhance the quality of life for the people of Riyadh,” said Mohamed Youssef, senior vice president, projects and O&M, engineering services, Middle East and Africa, SNC-Lavalin. He said, “This contract win underpins our continuous commitment to supporting Saudi Vision 2030 and our stellar reputation as the trusted partner of choice for world-class O&M services across the region. By working closely with RCRC and our JV partner, we’ll ensure the project is delivered to the highest environmental, quality and safety standards by providing our engineering excellence, digital services and net zero solutions.” From building sustainable communities to boosting local economies, SNC-Lavalin provides effi cient, reliable local transport networks tailored to each client’s needs. This is achieved by developing integrated transport solutions driven by digital tools and data that maximise benefi ts, enabling better investment planning, O&M decisions, reducing waste and enhancing asset longevity. In the Middle East, the SNC-Lavalin Group, including Atkins and Faithful+Gould, have delivered a number of fl agship public transport projects, such as Dubai Metro, Riyadh Metro and Doha Metro. 41 PLANT / MACHINERY / VEHICLESwww.plantmachineryvehicles.comMAY 2023 PUBLIC MOBILITYE ngineering major Mammoet is investing in developing the world’s largest electric crain named SK6000.The new ring crane shares the same engineering DNA as its predecessor, the SK350. By employing similar design principles and lifting techniques, it provides customers with continuity and peace of mind, the company wrote in a statement. Much of the crane’s technology has been working successfully – and safely – on project sites around the globe for many years, the statement noted. According to the company, the fi rst parts of the new 6,000 tonnes ring crane will soon be delivered to Mammoet’s engineering nerve center in The Netherlands. In the months ahead, fabrication and production will continue as it is being readied for its very fi rst project, with delivery scheduled in 2024. It becomes the world’s highest capacity land-based crane, and can be fully operated using electric power, allowing clients to execute projects in a sustainable way. The introduction of this 6,000 tonnes ring crane sets a new standard in worldwide heavy lifting capacity and allows customers to construct heavier and larger components than ever before. With its unrivaled outreach, hook height and lifting capacity, it offers a carbon-free lifting solution that others simply cannot match. Like earlier models, the SK6000 is containerised, enabling swift mobilisation and on-site assembly, providing ultra-heavy lift capacity wherever it is needed. It has been designed with next generation off shore wind farms in mind and will serve all global energy markets where additional lifting capacity is needed - both onshore and at sea. As off shore wind components grow in scale and in weight, more lift capacity is needed. The SK6000 delivers this capacity and unlocks a major design constraint. “Our latest innovation will enable customers to integrate higher and bigger turbines, and launch heavier foundations, be they fi xed or fl oating,” the company said. In the conventional energy sector, the SK6000 allows off shore and fl oating production projects to reduce integration time by building even larger topside modules. On land, it helps refi neries to reduce downtime by removing and installing larger components with minimum disruption. MAMMOET IS INVESTING IN DEVELOPING THE WORLD’S LARGEST ELECTRIC CRANE Once developed it will becomes the world’s highest capacity land-based crane, and can be fully operated using electric power CRANES 42 PLANT / MACHINERY / VEHICLESwww.plantmachineryvehicles.comMAY 2023Case studies Understand the planning and execution processes behind complex earthmoving, lifting and transport projects worldwide.
