< PreviousLIEBHERR LTM 1110-5.2 MOBILE CRANE COMES WITH NEW CRANE CONTROL SYSTEM, CAB AND GEARBOX T he Liebherr LTM 1110-5.2 succeeds the LTM 1110-5.1 model with three new features – the third generation of the Liebherr Computed Control (LICCON) crane control system, driver's cab and ZF TraXon DynamicPerform gearbox. Liebherr is also launching a completely new standard crane design, which marks the future for its all- terrain series. The third generation of LICCON (LICCON 3) has a completely new software package and programming language as well as a faster databus, signifi cantly more storage space and more computing power. Time- tested hardware components such as the BTT remote control terminal have been included. The touchscreen function on the new large display in the superstructure cab simplifi es display of information and control. In addition, LICCON3 cranes are prepared for telemetry and fl eet management systems as standard. In the future, crane contractors will be able to view and evaluate all the relevant data using the MyLiebherr customer portal. Liebherr has developed the modern design of the new driver's cab in collaboration with designer Jürgen R. Schmid, Design Tech, Ammerbuch (Germany). The modern design 40 PLANT / MACHINERY / VEHICLESwww.plantmachineryvehicles.comJANUARY 2022 LIFTING AND ACCESSfeatures premium materials and timeless lines as well as delivering a whole host of improvements for the crane driver. These include the new multifunction steering wheel, side roller blind on the driver’s door, improved instruments and modules as well as new displays. Options, such as the central locking system with remote key, the cool box and tyre pressure monitoring system deliver additional comfort. A completely new, modern automatic heating and climate control system in both the driver’s and operator’s cabs guarantees comfortable working conditions. A sun sensor detects strong sunshine and automatically adjusts the heating settings. In addition to the standard radio with hands-free facility, a double DIN radio with extended functions is available as an option. Liebherr was ZF’s partner in the development of the TraXon DynamicPerform and its integration in the drivetrain of mobile cranes. The DynamicPerform clutch module delivers almost zero wear starting and manoeuvring for the modular ZF TraXon gearbox without overheating, and it transmits the engine power via an oil-cooled plate pack that runs in oil. The friction heat generated when starting is dissipated in the clutch oil and supplied to the vehicle’s cooling system via an oil/water heat exchanger. Due to the higher energy and power consumption, together with a calculation model, permanent and almost wear-free manoeuvring is made possible. An implemented clutch protection function also prevents overheating of the clutch and the associated increased wear or destruction of the clutch in extreme load cases. That prevents downtimes and helps to signifi cantly extend the service life of the drivetrain. Initially, Liebherr plans to install DynamicPerform in its 5-axle mobile cranes on a step by step basis. On mobile cranes with six or more axles, Liebherr intends to continue to use the ZF 12-speed TraXon Torque gearbox with starting converter, which in addition to zero wear manoeuvring, also delivers an increase in torque. The new DynamicPerform clutch module transfers the engine power using integral discs which are cooled by the oil system. 41 PLANT / MACHINERY / VEHICLESwww.plantmachineryvehicles.comJANUARY 2022 LIFTING AND ACCESSNEW KIT ALLOWS CONVERSION OF JLG DIESEL-POWERED MACHINES TO BATTERY-ELECTRIC VERSIONS J LG Industries has released a conversion kit for selected diesel boom lifts such as the 660SJ model, replacing the engine with a battery-powered system. This off ers a cost-effi cient and convenient solution for rental companies seeking to extend the lifetime of their existing fl eet by converting it to emission-free equipment. Converting diesel-powered machines to electric battery power contributes to an increased residual value and lower total cost of ownership. Utilisation and rental rates could be improved as the converted equipment can be used on a wider variety of projects, particularly those requiring low emissions and noise levels, such as residential urban areas. It also extends the lifetime of equipment by making it compliant with more stringent regulations, which are expected to meet the EU’s 2030 deadline for 50% reduced emissions. Barrie Lindsay, director of engineering at JLG EMEA, says: “As the electric conversion kit is covered by warranty, customers will gain peace of mind that their machine will perform optimally and to the high standards expected from JLG. While there is much to be gained from the conversion process, there are considerable losses, too. The CO2 emissions of a rental fl eet will be reduced dramatically – with an estimated reduction of 200kg over fi ve years, per machine. Running costs can be cut by up to 80% due to decreased fuel consumption. Maintenance costs are also signifi cantly lower – as there are fewer consumable parts requiring regular replacement with electric batteries compared with diesel engines.” 42 PLANT / MACHINERY / VEHICLESwww.plantmachineryvehicles.comJANUARY 2022 LIFTING AND ACCESSPROJECTS Empower your decision-making with timely and exclusive details on the stakeholders, services, and solutions deployed within the latest MEP projects LISTS Be a part of our powerful and comprehensive annual rankings, which reflect the most respected MEP veterans and firms in the Middle East COMMENTARIES Dive into the minds of industry leaders and experts who are bridging gaps within the sector and implementing solutions for a score of challenges SPECIAL REPORTS Get access to in-depth interviews, the stories behind the headlines, and data-driven research and analysis, while unravelling the latest innovations VIDEOS Engage with industry titans, join our discussions, and view all the debates on trending topics as well as necessary changes required within the MEP sector EVENTS Take advantage of our early-bird access and be the first in line to network with industry veterans at our MEP Conference and Awards ENLIGHTENING.
