< Previous50 MEP Middle East | June 2021 www.mepmiddleeast.com WATER HEATERS process heat is very specifi c. It can often be met with heat pumps. Their effi ciency and short payback period make them an environmentally friendly and economically attractive alternative to conventional heating systems. An eco-friendly breakthrough borne out of research, heat pump technology has been harnessed by Ariston to produce the NUOS range of heat pump water heaters. The NUOS range uses a thermodynamic cycle to heat the water inside the storage tank through the air sucked by the thermal group inverting the natural heat fl ow. A refrigerant fl uid (R134A), through status changes, compression, and expansion cycles, withdraws the heat in the air at low temperatures and gives it to domestic water at a higher temperature. By absorbing free ecologic heat directly from the air, heat pumps are the best example of technology in complete harmony with the environment. Successfully combining a fl oor standing unvented cylinder with an air source heat pump water heater, the NUOS Plus boasts a market-leading COP of 3.14, meaning that for every kilowatt of energy it uses, it generates 3.14 kilowatts of heat. Units are also quiet running, producing only 50dB of noise, which is the same as an average refrigerator. Available in 200L direct and 250L indirect models, these units are ideal for users looking to add energy effi cient, renewable technologies to their homes. Case Study: The optimal synergy between air and solar energy Placed behind Mall of the Emirates, Courtyard by Marriott Al Barsha is a 4-star hotel in Dubai. The structure consists of a building with 200 guest rooms, a swimming pool and a fi tness center. The request was to satisfy the sanitary hot water demand for all the users of the building by using renewable energy to obtain an effi cient, economic and eco-friendly solution. A hybrid system comprising of a heat pump and solar collectors was proposed to meet the hot water demands of the users of the building. This was done by utilising the free solar energy generated by the collectors to pre-heat the water needed by the users of the building and then reaching the required water temperature with the heat pump. Such a hybrid system assures the optimum savings in energy since heat pump as a backup source utilises the ambient air temperature to heat up water while keeping electric consumption as low as 25% when compared to traditional electric heating. To cope with the large quantity of water required by all the users of the hotel, it was necessary to select a high- power commercial heat pump, the AR- 35 PTP with a nominal output power of 45 KW. ]The heat pump brings to the desired temperature the water previously preheated by the solar paneled system consisting of a battery of 12 collectors type KAIROS CF 2.0-1. The hot water thus produced is stored at a temperature of 60 ° C in a cylinder MAXIS CD1 2500, a single coil storage tank with a nominal capacity of 2500l. From here the water can be redirected towards the various users of the hotel. This synergy between heat pumps and solar paneled systems led to reduced overall energy consumption, making the best use of renewable energy sources, air, and solar. Closing the loop The “circular economy” is a development paradigm that seeks to disrupt the mechanisms of the conventional, i.e., linear, economy and restore the balance between production systems and the environment. Under this mechanism, virgin raw materials are to be brought back into the biosphere cycle. Meanwhile, man-made materials are designed to maximise their useful lives and, once obsolete, become the basic components of a new product, minimising waste and the generation of garbage.A UNIQUE PLATFORM FOR MEP AND HVAC PROFESSIONALS TO LEARN, DISCUSS AND DEBATE THE CURRENT STATE OF THE INDUSTRY WEDNESDAY 30TH JUNE 2021 DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES FOR SPONSORSHIP ENQUIRIES: Anup Nagpurkar Group Sales Manager T: +971 52 895 0931 E: anup.nagpurkar@itp.com FOR OTHER ENQUIRIES: Sherdil Babar Conference Production Manager T: +971 52 153 9621 E: sherdil.babar@itp.comSUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS (DRIVEN BY INNOVATION) We are 16,000 consulting engineers, designers, and management consultants committed to creating sustainable and long-term solutions for our clients and society. mea.ramboll.com Template 8-Building AD_215x285mm.indd 25/31/2021 2:36:41 PMNext >
