This year the Summit was dominated by the impact of technology and digitisation, on the industry as a whole, and on various individual sectors. During his keynote address during the 2019 edition of the Summit, held on November 26th at Grosvenor House, Dubai, Ken O’Rahilly, VP Logistics at ASYAD Group, reminded del- egates that they need to adapt and change as fast as the entire logistics industry is. “Our industry is in a constant state of flux. Our customers are now talking to each other in ways we would never have imagined a generation ago,” he said. “The key focus now is on cheaper, more convenient, and faster.” However, the next challenge for logistics is winning the PR battle on climate change and CSR. Industry experts maintain that it is not too late to work on reducing carbon footprints and embracing greener ways to transport goods. The transition to electric vehicles for transportation is a disruptive innovation that requires a sea-change in logistics companies, and a whole- sale embracing of electric transportation technologies. One of the largest logistics companies in the world, Deutsche Post DHL has fully embraced the change to electric vehicles, and is using them to unlock huge new growth potential, and realise its ambitions for a zero emission business by 2015. If they can do it, so can the rest of the world. The agreement includes es- tablishing three floating sta- tions to desalinate water and the transfer of desalinated water from the stations to desalination tanks. Each station will have a capacity of 50,000 cubic meters per day with a total capacity of 150,000 cubic meters a day. The project will be operational for 20 years, starting from the date of commercial operation, which is expected to be in the fourth quarter of 2020. Commenting on this agree- ment, Abdullah Aldubaikhi, CEO of Bahri said: “Building on our long-standing partnership, we are pleased to collaborate again with Saline Water Con- version Corporation to further our contributions to Saudi Ara- bia’s efforts aimed at building up self-sufficient and indigenous capabilities across various sec- tors as directed in Saudi Vision 2030. With this agreement, we aim to support our partner to meet rising demand for water and electricity, thereby serving the needs of businesses and com- munities in the Kingdom and we are proud that the 20-year contract comes as an apprecia- tion for our industry-leading credentials in offering logistics and transportation solutions for various industries.” The new contract follows an agreement signed between Bahri and Saline Water Conversion Corporation earlier this year that sets a fixed price on a five-year term for the shipment of spare parts needed at desalination plants in Eastern and Western Coasts. Bahri plays an important role in the growth and development of the global maritime industry by leveraging state-of-the-art technologies to offer innovative and value-added door-to-door services by sea, land and air. The company owns a fleet of 89 vessels and is the world’s largest owner and operator of Very Large Crude-oil Carriers (VLCCs) as well as the largest owner and operator of chemi- cal tankers in the Middle East. Grandweld reaffi rms that the “Made in the UAE” brand is able to compete and provide standards of quality and effi ciency in oppo- sition to the best global shipyards while providing exceptional after-sales services to the ship- ping sector in the UAE and the Arab region Grandweld Shipyard, a UAE- based shipyard that specialises in designing, building, and main- taining ships and boats, signed an agreement to build two crew boats to Khalid Faraj Shipping (KFS), the Abu Dhabi based leading company in delivering comprehensive marine services and logistical support to offshore oil and gas projects. The contract includes an option that allows Khaled Faraj Shipping to build two additional boats, with price protection over a period of three months. The contract holds sig- nificant value for Grandweld, boosting the business with mo- mentum and sustainable cash flow during the upcoming year. “For nearly 25 years, KFS has achieved a steady distinction and expansion in marine busi- ness, overcoming the challenges that the marine sector has been experiencing in accordance to its strong focus and commitment to delivering the highest quality in services. KFS succeeded to own a large and diversified fleet in terms of ship varieties and build suppliers. Grandweld being KFS’ choice to manufacture their new boats is an honour that we hold dearly, as this proves that the “Made in the UAE” brand represents a seal of quality and standard in comparison to several well-known, international ship- yards,” said Jamal Abki, general manager of Grandweld Shipyard. “We are delivering to KFS our best, newly developed designs, to adhere to the highest inter- national standards. The boats are already trusted by Saudi Aramco, ADNOC, and KOC, as well as most of the leading oil and gas companies worldwide,” Abki added. “Our boats also exceed the requirements of working in the GCC region, as they currently operate in rough waters such as North America, and the Gulf of Mexico. This enables Khalid Faraj Shipping to expand the utilisation of the boats in the future into new markets, such as the Mediterranean Sea.” KFS collaborates with Grandweld to build two crew boats Dubai Customs hosts event in cooperation with World Customs Organisation Authority WCO Global AEO Conference 2020 is set to discuss, in Dubai, the key eff orts to be- made towards enhancing the global customs system Dubai is set to host the 5th World Customs Organisation (WCO) Global AEO (Author- ised Economic Operator) Con- ference 2020 which is being hosted by Dubai Customs in cooperation with WCO and the UAE Federal Customs Au- thority.
