Th e more you use, the more you have.” With the return of the Doha Jewellery and Watch Exhibition and the launch of the inaugural Design Doha biennial, it’s a fi tting sentiment to approach the season. At the heart of both events is a focus on creativity and craft, with storytelling and narrative weaving their way through designs, whether created to dazzle, enrich, or provoke thought and dialogue. Th e inception, curation, and hosting of both events in Doha, part of the UNESCO Network of Creative Cities, is testament to the city’s emergence as a cultural capital and its commitment to cultural reciprocity — welcoming leading international luminaries across design to Qatar whilst also celebrating exceptional established and emerging Arab creatives. As Qatar Museums’ Chairperson, Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Th ani, says of Design Doha, “With so much talent in the region, our aim is to provide a platform to support Arab designers in advancing their creative practices and businesses, and to share their talent with the world.” For leading Qatari designer Shaikha Al-Sulati, Senior Design Manager at Msheireb Properties, showcasing that talent is bound up in Msheireb’s rise as a centre of ideas and community. “We’ve carved out a space that’s not just a district—it’s a design haven. Th e Doha Design District was built to support a diverse range of design disciplines, from fashion to interior, graphic to mobility, and so much more. It has grown into a vibrant ecosystem, home to numerous studios, showrooms, and workshops that nurture our fearlessly talented creatives and inspire our communities. Here, ideas come to life, and creativity knows no bounds.” R HBQ_034_07_edsLetter_13144482.indd 729/01/2024 21:308 Harper’s Bazaar Qatar Spring 2024 Shaikha Al-Sulaiti shot by Daniel Asater.
