Think longevity and value coupled with plenty of inspiration to bring alive wild imagination and playful renditions of a sparkling winter wonderland or a night out under the open skies. Keeping in mind the need for decluttered living and playing areas, cleverly designed storage solutions in gender-neutral hues ensure that any shared or individual spaces can be easily re-rearranged for study, fun, play and leisure. For wall accents, there’s nothing more romantic than hand-painted canvases featuring deeply textured brushstrokes by talented artisans who bring in a touch of the outside to the inside, creating the dreamy magic of the universe at large, within every nook and corner. crateandbarrel.me Brinley colourful abstract tapestry Twin cane beds for kids in Maren green HBI_050_46-51_Crate and Barrel_11798358.indd 5027/09/2021 01:57:53 PM51 HarpersBazaarArabia.com/Culture Autumn 2021 Playful accessories for the room by Crate & Kids The Maren cane bed in a two-tone look with a softly arched headboard Moon and star garland in a rich velvety texture IMAGES COUR TESY OF CRA TE & BARREL HBI_050_46-51_Crate and Barrel_11798358.indd 5127/09/2021 01:58:01 PMTHE TRENDS INVITE THE OUTDOORS IN Words by LAURA CHERRIE BEANEY HBI_050_52-57_TRENDS SPECIAL_11680350.indd 5230/09/2021 12:10:49 PMTHE CHAIR: FILICUDI ARMCHAIR DESIGNED BY MARCANTONIO FOR QEEBOO Stefano Giovannoni’s Italian design brand, Qeeboo, places a fi rm focus on fantasy-fuelled escapism, this time through the magic of the Mediterranean’s fl ora. For the Filicudi lounge armchair, Marcantonio reimagined the iconic profi le of the prickly pear as a quirky, stackable seat that works in both indoor and outdoor environments to bring home the hedonism of holiday mode. All of a sudden, the home environment has become a setting where we exercise, work and engage with the world, causing a shift in our expectations which have realigned accordingly. We’re craving a space that invites us to feel relaxed and secure, populated with personal and artisanal items that spark emotion and call out for engagement, inspiration and originality. In short, livability. So this season, we’re escaping the Gulf ’s soaring temperatures by absorbing nature’s bountiful benefi ts into the home. Wallpapers in eclectic, animal-skin prints spark a journey of the imagination while the grounding qualities of an earthy palette speak to subtler tastes. In terms of materiality, combinations of natural elements such as plant life, wood, stone, glass and refl ective metals channel life into an empty space. Soft furnishings that cocoon us are prized over rigid, modernist designs while bursts of emboldening colours take precedence over previously pared-back palettes. Here, we’ve curated the new-season interior updates, handpicked for their transformative qualities, by local and international designers. The Karen cushion champions sustainable practices and sees eclectic slices of the maison’s leftover textiles re-mixed into striking new combinations. The result is a dynamic bricolage of animal, tropical and tribal prints certain to uplift any armchair: “Homeowners are increasingly seeking interiors that tell a story, layering old with new,” says Creative Director, Maya Toron Al Omary. “Many of us missed the freedom of travelling in 2020, so this season there’s a return to a global inspiration where living spaces refl ect our travels and who we are.” THE COFFEE TABLE: GALENO BY MARINA HOME Reclaimed wood transports us to the driftwood-lined shores of Sardinia. The Galeno coffee table by Marina Home balances contemporary chic with the nature’s raw magnetism. A matte steel base encases railway sleepers, revealed through a clear glass surface that fi lters through beams of light. Adorn the Galeno with fresh blooms or a trailing Boston fern for a coffee table that uplifts spirits through an abundance of natural energy. Crafted from frosted glass discs and aluminium, intricate leaf detailing trails down from gold swirling tendrils to form an enchanting design that envelops the environment in the subtle glow of woodland light. Centre above the dining table as a focal point, or hang as a dreamy detail in an airy light bedroom for a touch of forest fantasy. 55 HarpersBazaarArabia.com/Culture Autumn 2021 HBI_050_52-57_TRENDS SPECIAL_11680350.indd 5527/09/2021 02:01:04 PMTHE VASE: ABSOLUTE FLOWERS AND HOME, STYLED BY TRILBEY GORDON INTERIORS These high octane, sculptural vases by Absolute Flowers And Home are the ultimate accent for natural surfaces such as marble, stone or wood. Set at staggered heights in both matte and high-shine gold, London-based interior designer Trilbey Gordon fi lled them with sculptural cherry blossom stems and placed them as a defi nitive accent upon a Tiffany-blue marble centrepiece. Like jewellery for interior spaces, metallics are nature’s most prized resources: “I look at every object as an individual sculpture,” says Trilbey. “The cool, soulful brilliance of gold is one of the most effective ways to imbue a room with depth and character. I love to use metals with an aged, patina fi nish for greater dimension and texture.” THE ROOM DIVIDER: PLOT BY POLTRONA FRAU Poltrona Frau’s latest collection materialises our current quest for elevated downtime and fl exible living. The modular Plot Room Divider, designed by Danish-Italian duo GamFratesi, is the perfect synthesis of a fl exible object that adapts to multiple needs: “It can reshape our home spaces, creating privacy, dividing areas, even providing us with a gorgeous background for our video conferences,” says Nicola Coropulis, CEO of Poltrona Frau. Strung across aluminium tubing and earthy brown straps in Poltrona Frau’s signature material, leather, the designs are manually woven by the brand’s artisans into geometric forms that play with texture and density. The ultimate commitment-free and practical accent that exudes retro glamour, make the Plot a backdrop for your potted palms. Designer Carlo Colombo’s mastery of quality is apparent in the defi nitive details; armrests are trimmed with double stitching and grosgrain while his appreciation for 1950s design sensibilities comes forth in the Cap Martin’s chic, clean lines. Acknowledging our pronounced desire for personalisation, the Cap Martin Sunset can be transformed into multiple formations including: two and three-seater variations as well as central and end units or a chaise longue. Pay homage to precious moments in time and surround the Cap Martin Sunset with antique accessories – from Berber rugs to thick, gold frames – sourced from your international adventures. THE WALLPAPER: ‘INTO THE WILD’ BY EIJFFINGER As tastes migrate from minimal to maximal, storied Dutch wallpaper designer Eijffi nger’s latest artful wall coverings are the ultimate expression of individualism. The Into The Wild collection channels the spirit of adventure straight into the living room with nature’s patterns — from python scales to sleek giraffe skin and the rugged folds of an elephant — transposed into tactile designs. Palettes, from Sahara sand to moss green, spring from the land. Our favourite? The Savannah-inspired murals that take us straight into Rudyard Kipling’s animal kingdom. Avoid the outdated feature wall and adorn multiple panels in these outspoken prints.
