I typically have breakfast with my children (Talia, 11 and Izzy, 13). It’s a great way to connect with them before their long day of Zoom school begins. I eat a high-protein breakfast - yogurt with fresh fruit or a vegetarian omelette with goat cheese - to give me energy to start the day. And I linger over my mocha coffee with steamed milk - it’s one of the greatest pleasures of my day. 9:00AM I review my master list of strategic initiatives and write down three to fi ve items that I want to accomplish during the course of the day. Starting the workday in this fashion helps to keep me focused on the big picture, so I can spend my time on the most impactful things during the course of the day. 10:00AM I sketch some new concepts for a trio of bud vases for our fall collection, using my favourite black ink pens (Pilot Razor Point II & Pentel Sign Pens). I only sketch with them, and only on white paper. The lines they create are the closest thing to painting. It’s a very artistic stroke. 12:00PM I have lunch with my kids, outdoors in the garden when possible. Often a quinoa tortilla with cheese and fruit, or a smoothie. 1:00PM I do a walk-and-talk meeting with a senior member of our team to review the concept for our upcoming outdoor photoshoot in Sonoma. I fi nd that I’m most creative while in motion, so I take meetings in this fashion as often as I can. 2:00PM I take a Zoom call with a key retail partner to discuss our new exclusive brand launch (TALIANNA) in the spring, and their plans to promote and position the brand. 3:00PM I take a Zoom meeting in the treehouse in our backyard with our designer in Tokyo (my right-hand guy) to discuss the details of our upcoming collections including a new glass technique. I love to move around the location of meetings so they don’t become static, and in this location I’m in the midst of the hummingbirds who inhabit our garden. I’m obsessed with them (and they may become the inspiration for our next collection) - the speed with which they move their wings is incredible and magical, as are the brilliant pinks and reds of the feathers around their collars. 4:00PM I review the research on a new ceramic technique, using a crystalline glaze which actually grows crystals - so each piece is unique. And brainstorm design concepts which use this technique. 5:00PM I go for my daily bike ride. It’s an absolute must, and my key to staying sane during this period of time. Riding bikes has been a passion of mine since university. During these times, the freedom I feel when racing down hills simulates the excitement I used to feel when fl ying (obviously curtailed right now) to locations around the world. I love the challenge of the hills as well - I push myself further and faster each time. I very often see deer on the path near our home, which is phenomenal. 6:30PM I prepare dinner, usually a favourite recipe from The New York Times. Before the pandemic, we were fortunate to have our dinner prepared and ready on the table each night when my husband and I arrived from work; now during this period while we isolate at home, we have adjusted. I tend to gravitate to the exotic - I like to cook things which are unusual with unexpected, organic ingredients. Not the fastest preparation, but interesting results. 8:30PM I assist my children with questions on their homework. My son’s math is now well beyond my grasp - negative exponentials and the like - so often my role is moral support more than anything else! 10:00PM After the kids are asleep, I review and respond to any unanswered queries from the day which require my attention. 11:00PM My guilty pleasure of watching part of a Bollywood fl ick, before going to sleep. I love the colours, cinematography and romance of Bollywood - it’s my favourite type of movie. From the earliest fragrance bottles and powder compacts to inkwells and stationery, all objects were a source of inspiration for the late French watchmaker. Cartier’s new gift collection features small home accessories spanning a notebook, pencil, keyring and rattle, all intricately crafted to perfection. Materials such as lacquered wood, porcelain, bisque, leather and paper are used to refl ect the Maison’s longstanding values of elegance and durability. Louis once highlighted the signifi cance he attached to small luxury gifts and accessories such as pocket watches and belts; “In fact, we do not only produce luxury jewellery. I would say, monsieur, that jewellery like ours is as capable of adorning a woman’s shoulders with a dazzling necklace as it is of fi lling her handbag with a powder compact, a mirror, a small comb and even business cards, all stamped with the same seal of originality and art.’’ ■ cartier.com SI M P L E PL E A S U R E S Panthère pencil-holder; Entrelacés trinket tray Baby Fox spoon and Baby Butterfl y tumbler From top: Panthère white card-holder; Panthère blanket From left: Cartier gold keyring; Wooden Block Game; Diablo card-holder Clockwise from left: Panthère Stamp; Christmas ornament; Santos ballpoint pen With the festive season around the corner, Cartier has launched a new gifting and accessories collection inspired by the intricacies of everyday life HBI_048_028-29_Latest Opener_Cartier_11434403.indd 2930/11/2020 03:53:06 PMNext >
