Given that his father was an acclaimed cinematic set designer and mother, a prominent painter, photography was a natural path for the young creative to take. From Nicole Kidman to Iggy Pop, he has shot the world’s biggest celebs and from Chanel to Tom Ford, the world’s most revered fashion brands. Jack’s photographs also appear in the book My Way which is a retrospective of his work from 2014 to 2023. Every day I… Drink too much coff ee. My favourite place is…Th e Big Island, Hawaii. I spend most of my money on… My work. I would never wear… Flip-fl ops. This month you will nd me…Working on a project that I am doing in Morocco about the Berbers. If I wasn’t a photographer I’d be…An archaeologist or interior designer. London-based British-Pakistani Noorunisa’s photography is getting her noticed for all the right reasons. Th e go-to for street style photography, her Instagram account is the source of much inspo for cool-girl glam. As a Muslim, Noor highlights hijabis in the fashion world as well as other ethnic minorities and is a leader in putting contemporary tastemakers in the spotlight – whatever their race or religion. Every day I… Make sure I have a conversation with God. My favourite place is… Anywhere near the sea. I grew up near the ocean so it feels like home. I spend most of my money on… Matcha! I’m addicted and it’s becoming an issue. I would never wear… Dungarees. I tried them once and it was not cute. I still really want them to look good on me but I’ve accepted they’re not for me. This month you will nd me… Recovering from fashion month! Th at means loads of face masks and plenty of rest. If I wasn’t a photographer I would be… A cafe/ice cream shop owner. I love cafes and ice cream so it just makes sense. NOORUNISA Photographer Page 48, The Look @noorunisa AR AB IA OCTOBER 2024 CONTRIBUTORS SITARA ASSOMULL MULCHANDANI Writer Page 56, Art & Craft @sitara_nm With degrees from the London School of Journalism and McGill University, Harper’s Bazaar alumni Sitara worked as a Beauty and Accessories editor for the Indian chapter. Now, whether it’s story writing, PR, events or brand partnerships, the multi-disciplinary Sitara does it all. A Dubai-based freelance writer with over 15 years of experience, Sitara is now at the helm of Th e Kids’ Chronicle, a free print-at-home paper for kids aged seven to 11. Every day I… Strive to fi nd balance. My favourite place is… On my chair, staring out at the water with a hot cup of coff ee. I spend most of my money on… Shoes! I’d never wear… Logos (sorry). MARRIAM MOSSALI Entrepreneur and Philanthropist Page 80, Haute Heritage @marriam.mossalli An authority on luxury in the Middle East, Marriam has been concurrently listed in the Business of Fashion (BOF) 500 List for six years (since 2018), founded the Saudi Style Council in 2020 and was part of the fi rst-ever British Fashion Council New Wave: Creatives List. Her infl uence is refl ected in her roles as a contributing editor for major publications, while her work with brands like Burberry, Cartier and Christie’s has made her a powerhouse for all things of affl uence in the region. My favourite place is… Where there’s no phone reception. If I wasn’t a Entrepreneur I would be… A trophy wife. MOEEZ ALI , HARSHA RANEY PHOTOGRAPHY HBA-194_OCT-24_025_CONTRIBUTORS_13404984.indd 2501/10/2024 13:39Ilove it when I read things that astonish me on these pages. As I was editing this month’s issue, one particular statistic jumped out; that in Dubai, the combined total of Indian and Pakistani residents make up 40 per cent of the city’s population. Granted, Dubai is a rather unique place on many fronts, but an equally signifi cant percentage could also well be translated across the Middle East as a whole. Almost since the very beginning, this society’s exceptional contribution to the culture here in this region cannot be overstated. We’ve chosen to celebrate that contribution at a highly auspicious time – in the run-up to Diwali, festival of lights, taking place at the end of this month. Among our usual clutch of fabulousness, we have curated a suitably technicolour ode to the creativity, glamour, style and substance that the South Asian community has woven into the fabric of the Middle East. From Sitara Mulchandani’s edit of designers from the subcontinent establishing roots on our home soil (p.56), to a personal – and extremely chic – tour of fashion maven Roshni Shewakramani’s Dubai home (p.208); and from a shoot in the hariyali hills of India’s Harsil Valley (p.182) to legendary designer Manish Malhotra sharing his wisdom in our new franchise, Famous Last Words (p.231), this issue is a love letter to the beautiful, integral gifts that the diaspora and beyond have off ered us all. At the heart of this, we asked Dubai-based journalist (and launch Editor of Bazaar India), Sujata Assomull to profi le our quadruple-threat cover star, entrepreneur- model Pritika Swarup on p.90. Th e two powerhouses came together to discuss the importance of weaving purpose into everything you do. A very Bazaar sentiment indeed. Diwali ki shubhkamnayein.
