Both watches boast new in-house automatic movements courtesy of La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. First up is the Escale Spin Time Météorite, a new take on the Escale Spin Time that was fi rst unveiled in 2009, where rotating cubes on the dial display the time in place of a traditional hand. The latest 41mm version sports a new bi-material colour combination of pink-gold and black PVD-coated titanium, complete with the LV77 calibre automatic movement. But the standout feature is easily its dial, delicately carved out of the Gibeon meteorite that landed in Namibia. The result is a watch that is – quite literally – out of this world. Quite extraordinary. If you prefer something closer to home, however, the Tambour World Time Runway’s city disk dial allows the wearer to tell the time in all 24 time zones. Powered by a new automatic movement, the LV107 calibre, the hands tell the time in the city positioned at 12 o’clock, with the local times in the other capitals deduced from their own positions. The Tambour’s sporty design is offset by a 46mm dial along with a heftier winding crown of pink-gold and black rubber, with swappable straps that can be changed in an instant – perfect for that quick outfi t change. ■ Louis Vuitton’s Tambour World Time Runway Louis Vuitton’s Escale Spin Time Météorite HBZ_147_123_LV_Watch_11274507.indd 12303/05/2020 02:04:09 PM The BEAUTY 124 HarpersBazaarArabia.com May 2020 HBZ_147_077_BeautyFacelift_11267873.indd 12403/05/2020 02:22:51 PM The BEAUTY 125 HarpersBazaarArabia.com May 2020 THE “LIQUID facelift” was supposed to change everything. Using fi ller to rescaffold sagging skin seemed like a bright idea: It was cheaper and less invasive than surgery. The problem is, “fi llers don’t actually lift the skin; they just push it out- ward,” says Paul Jarrod Frank, M.D., a New York dermatologist. Keep fi lling, “and that’s how people end up looking like Cabbage Patch Dolls.” The answer? Less invasive procedures that can buy you time (and cost a fraction of the price). Here, experts explain some of the newest options. THE NEW THREAD LIFTS Thread lifts made a splash when they hit the scene about 15 years ago but quickly waned in popular- ity. The procedure – in which sutures were used to temporarily lift the skin and stimulate the body’s own col- lagen production – often used per- manent threads that led to in fl ammation and scarring. (The FDA pulled some early versions off the market.) They’ve since been replaced by biodegradable threads that are safer and more effective, says Sachin Shridharani, M.D., a New York plastic surgeon. He’s partial to Silhouette InstaLift, which uses absorbable threads dotted with fl ex- ible cones “to lift and anchor the skin without any telltale marks,” he says. (Cost: Dhs20,000 – Dhs28,000.) Expect to see results, which get bet- ter over the next six months as col- lagen production ramps up. Shereene Idriss, M.D., of Union Square Laser Dermatology in New York, believes this lift works best for those with a higher BMI, since the skin is thicker, “so there’s less risk of a bump or divot.” A subtler option? NovaThreads. These “raise the jowl and tighten the jawline,” says Francesca Fusco, M.D., of Wexler Dermatology in New York. The whole procedure takes less than an hour, and “you can even go right back to the offi ce.” Results last for about a year. (Cost: Dhs11,000 – Dhs27,000 depending on how many you need.) HOT TREATMENTS When it comes to tightening, derms love Ultherapy, which uses ultrasound energy to gently heat the deep layers of tissue to create microwounds that, as they heal, cause the skin to lift and tighten without disrupting the outer layer. “It won’t work immediately, but the results look amazing after a few months,” says Idriss, who recommends patients get a top-up every other year. (Cost: Dhs13,000.) For faces that need more sculpting, Frank is excited about FaceTite and AccuTite. Performed under local anesthesia, both pro- cedures use a radio frequency wand that goes beneath the skin to remodel tissue, destroy fat, and tighten skin. (Each treatment clocks in at about an hour and costs around Dhs28,000.) FaceTite is better for larger areas: It can re sculpt a full neck or a sagging jawline, which more of Frank’s patients are paying attention to (and can’t be addressed with fi ller). AccuTite is great for detail work, such as target- ing fat pads above the nasolabial folds or a droopy eye area, he says. “Think of it like micro liposuction for the face.” AT-HOME DEVICES There isn’t an at-home gadget on earth that is going to replicate the results of a medical treatment, but some beauty brands are trying their hardest to create one that comes close. Two that have gained traction: The NuFace Trinity (Dhs1,200) uses microcurrents (low-level electrical currents) to stimulate the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is instrumental in the creation of collagen and elastin, and energises your facial muscles. And then there’s the ZIIP (Dhs1,800). (Jennifer Aniston and Margot Robbie are fans.) Shaped like a wireless computer mouse, this gadget syncs to an app that has nine spa-like protocols, such as the new Lymph & Lift treatment. After applying the conductor gel, select the programme on your app, and follow the instructional video as the ZIIP emits a series of nanocurrents (which co-founder and aesthetician Melanie Simon fi nds produces longer-lasting results than microcurrents). So do these types of products actually work? “You’ll see a ben- efi t, but you have to do the heavy work and be religious about sticking to their protocol,” says Idriss. ■ Doctors are fi nding new ways to help you fi ght gravity – without going under the knife… W ORD S: JES SICA MAITLIN. Garnier Skin’s Hydrating Sheet Mask (3. Dhs11) is so soothing and really hydrates my dry skin.” Flight essentials: Carmex Lipbalm (fl ights usually dry my lips out like crazy), Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado (8. I haven’t coloured my hair in years.” Style secret: “Always go for either a super-natural look, or a sleek, clean look. If you do too much you’ll regret it later.
