First thing I do is check my phone because I work on a global scale. Like most business owners, I don’t just work the usual nine to fi ve. Having a deep, eight- hour-long sleep and bed sheets that are silk mixed with cotton is the trick to feeling revived each morning. Once I get out of bed, I get dressed in my Adidas workout gear and I go right to the gym. I do a lot of exercise, but one of my favourites is dancing. Especially on the weekend after a long week, dancing to Latin pop music by Marc Anthony or Jennifer Lopez releases me from the stress of it all. I go to the gym or take a Zumba class by myself instead of with friends because you can’t depend on anyone! I’m very independent that way. 9:00 A.M. I get back from the gym and have water with lemon, a coffee and a protein shake with almond milk. On the weekends I might indulge myself with a nice omelette, oatmeal or fruit. I hit the shower and then, while I’m getting ready, I do my morning phone calls. Most of them are to the Middle East, especially Dubai. I use a lot of Giorgio Armani products: the Luminous Silk Foundation and the Prima Oil-in- Gel Cleanser are both amazing. I use Cle de Peau Protective Fortifying Emulsion Broad Spectrum for SPF protection. My go-to work outfi t is jeans and a nice top – probably from my go-to designer, Ellie Saab – and stylish shoes, like my Louis Vuitton sneakers, or heels by Gianvito Rossi or Aquazzura. I’ve become more of a trousers girl than a dress girl after moving to New York, because it’s just more practical. I’m also a huge shoe collector, I have about a hundred pairs. I don’t follow trends, though. I think my style is timeless, but bold. What ultimately determines my outfi t is what my transportation for the day will be. I’ll usually ride my bicycle, walk or take a car. My husband drives a motorcycle, so in the summer he’ll drop me off at work and I love that. It’s a really fun way to experience the city. Every single morning I’m rushing to work. 10:00 A.M. I leave the house. My offi ce is 15 blocks away. I always use a cross-body bag; lately it’s been my Boy Chanel. I change my bags a lot, it doesn’t have anything to do with changing my bag to match my outfi t, it has more to do with my mood. I get bored wearing the same thing all the time. When I switch bags I never forget my wallet with my ID and credit card, perfume and hand cream. The fragrance I wear is Caban from YSL. The one person I admire not only in style, but as a woman, is Jennifer “ I ’ V E B E C O M E M O R E O F A T R O U S E R S G I R L T H A N A D R E S S G I R L A F T E R M O V I NG T O N E W Y O R K , B E C A US E I T ’ S J U ST M O R E P R A C T I C A L ... I was so excited when Shay Mitchell wore our cuff earring recently. As a millennial celebrity she has that bold look that we love. 10:30 A.M. There are two parts to my offi ce: one is my personal space and the other is the operations part. Between all the paper and packaging, there’s a lot going on in the production half. I have so much going on that I need my space to be clean and relaxed. I have a lot of leafy plants and Diptyque lavender-scented candles. I’m planning to get a dog to be my offi ce companion – I’ve even bought a pet bed! I love animals in general. I think I’ll go for a medium-sized dog like a Havanese. I haven’t thought about a name, but it will defi nitely start with an ‘M’. There are six people in the team. I think I’m more of a team player than a boss. I work with my team, they don’t work for me. It takes a team effort to build everything we’re doing. I really admire Bvlgari; what they’re doing is very different from my own aesthetic, but I look at jewellery as the entire concept of a brand, because that’s just who I am. I’m not only a designer, I’m a creative person. I look at everything as a bigger picture, it’s a whole identity. I never call myself a jewellery designer – I’m a creative director and founder. 1:00 P.M. I have lunch with my team, I don’t usually go out. It’s a waste of time going to a restaurant for lunch unless I have an important meeting. If I have a lot of trunk shows or events, I might eat while I’m out. I don’t have the same food everyday, I like variety. The thing about New York is that there are so many cultures and different kinds of food. Throughout the day I snack on almonds and apples with peanut butter and celery. I have dark chocolate once a day. Once I’m in the offi ce, though, I forget about the outside world. When the weather is nice, my husband will make sure to take me to the park to ensure I sit in the sun and get some Vitamin D. 5:00 P.M. I like to do my creative work later on in the day because this is when I get more energy. After 5pm, almost everyone has usually gone home, so it’s my time to relax and think about the bigger picture work-wise. I spend six months in New York and six months travelling. I do a lot of events, trunk shows, and one-on-one styling. I come to the Middle East a lot and I’m in Dubai frequently. I like to stay at the Four Seasons when I travel. My suitcase is always ready to go at a moment’s notice. Despite all my travels I’m still not a light traveller. 7:00 P.M. I like to walk back home at the end of the day because it relaxes me. If I’m really tired I take a shower and order some Pad Thai. I like to disconnect from technology for the fi rst two hours when I’m home. If I’m cooking, I’ll cook salmon or shrimp with pasta. I love to cook, especially when I’m extremely stressed, it opens up my creative mind. 9:00 P.M. I start my second round of work. It’s mainly phone calls, often with my brothers because they’re my partners. When I’m fi nished I watch Netfl ix. After I shower, I clean my face with the same Armani cleanser I use in the morning. I don’t go to sleep with my make-up on ever. I always have to wash my face and put on my creams or I’m just not ready for bed. I apply Giorgio Armani Crema Nera Extrema Volume Reshaping Eye Serum under my eyes. I don’t read books to fall asleep, but I do catch up on all the articles I’ve been wanting to read from women’s lifestyle magazines like, of course, Harper’s Bazaar. I have to sit in my bed for at least 10 minutes to mentally prepare for sleep — no phone, no distractions. ■ MAR AL’ S PICK S Mitc celebrity There are tw other is the o there’s a lot g that I need m and Diptyq be my offi Cleanser, Dhs184, Armani Bag, Dhs16,030, Chanel Love album, by Jennifer Lopez Shoes, Dhs2,586, Aquazzura Candle, Dhs248, Diptyque Maral sketching Rock by Marli pieces Cleo bangles, Dhs28,275 each, Marli New York Amber Heard wearing Marli New York Vines ear cuff Jennifer Hudson wearing Marli New York Ransom necklace Charlize Theron wearing Marli New York’s Fifi multi-strand ring ELIE S A AB S/ S19MARCH 21 26 WWW.BASELWORLD.COM The XXX PHOTOGRAPHY : EFRAIM EVIDOR.
