Just an hour up the road, the bright lights and bustling bars and restaurants of the emirate have plenty to admire after all, and it’s no coincidence it is the tourism hotspot of the region. But the UAE capital is not overawed by its neighbour, instead it goes about its business quietly and confi dently, making the most of its cultural landmarks, international sporting events and stunning scenery. This issue’s cover feature looks at the capital’s tourism outlook for the rest of the year and beyond, speaking to tourism board offi cials, general managers and analysts to delve into the successes and challenges Abu Dhabi’s hotels face. We hear of high occupancies, promising RevPAR and further plans to attract international visitors, but we also discover the eff ect of seasonality on business and the issues of losing staff to cities perceived more glamorous (or that just off er a bump in pay). What can’t be denied, however, is the work hotel groups are putting in to make sure the emirate’s natural beauty is highlighted, from the Anantara’s Santorini- inspired resort on the Ghantoot waterways to Pura’s eco-glamping site on Jubail Island, and the eff orts developers and the tourism department are putting into the making Abu Dhabi a diverse and alluring place to visit. In coming months we will put the same spotlight on other cities and destinations around the region, as the Hotelier team continues to help you get an even better understanding of the industry around the region. And, as the summer begins and the region gets a little quieter, stay close to our website, as we’ll be with you all the way through the season. Over the next four years, this fi gure is anticipated to expand by an additional US$50 billion, reaching over half a trillion value. Under the new vertical, Stirling Hospitality Advisors will coordinate the project on behalf of the owner from concept ideation to development and construction, until the hotel is fully operational. It is aimed at providing hospitality developers with a comprehensive services package that will include essential support throughout the entire development process. Despite the annual revenue growth expected to stabilise with a projected average increment of US$15 billion annually, the market volume is forecasted to reach US$508.9 billion by 2028.
