< Previouseverything into everything you do, and you will receive back in dividends. Positive energy could not be strong, and you will see the results from your team. Momentum should not be under- estimated either – once you have momentum, it is much easier to get that ball rolling faster and faster. 6 You will not (and should not) stop learning Learning is key to our development, and I would advise everyone to never stop learning. My career has been full of learning moments, including achieving my degree and master’s degree, completing wine courses, NLP, mentoring, and most recently, I have started a Doctorate in Business Administration. Learning gives us a sense of satisfaction outside of work and ensures that the mind is kept sharp. 7 Never underestimate the power of your own personal brand It’s not what you say; it’s how you say it, or even better, it’s not what you do; it’s how you do it. Your personal brand has never been so important in the modern world we live in. Think of yourself as a popular brand and apply this to your everyday actions. You will soon see how powerful building your personal brand can be and the positive impact it will have on your confi dence, personal life and career. 1 Success is infi nite (but make sure you celebrate all wins) We all want to be successful in some way, whether in our personal or professional lives. In recent years, I have realised that success is infi nite and has no fi nish line. Once we have achieved a goal, we go looking for something big or better. The sooner you realise that success has no end, the sooner you can enjoy the jour- ney. Having said that, I cannot stress enough how important it is to break your journey down into small, medium and large wins and learn to celebrate every one with your team. 2 Surround yourself with like-minded (and unlike-minded people) We all read about surrounding ourselves with like-minded and inspirational team members, which is important on both a personal and team level. However, surrounding yourself with ‘unlike-minded’ people is equally important. Diversity brings ideas, and ideas drive success. Plot your team on a personality chart and look for gaps you need to fi ll – be it innovative, social, logical and so on. You need people in your team who hold different experiences, skills, and strengths, which will complement you as a leader and will ultimately make the whole team much stronger. 3 Embrace change (before change embraces you) The old saying ‘change is inevitable’ couldn’t be truer. We live in a world where change is the norm – be it technology, industry trends or company visions, change is happening at a rate unlike ever experienced before. As leaders, we need to embrace change but, more importantly, support our team in embracing change. Be patient, explain change and accept that you will always have some level of resistance. Change is inevi- table, and we must accept this fact. 4 Lift your team (and your team will lift you) Over the years, I have understood the importance of always putting your team fi rst. Put your energy into lifting your team through recognition, team building, profi ling, mentoring and support. In return, your team will lift you far higher than you have ever been before. There is no I in team. 5 Positive energy attracts positive energy, and momen- tum is the key Smile at someone, and 99 per cent of the time, you will receive a smile back. The rule is no diff erent with positive energy.
