He said that when the pandemic hit, globally FSI was able to switch to home working virtually overnight and the firm has been able to continue to operate seamlessly all aspects of its business from business development through to professional services delivery and support to clients online. Jarvis says: “We did find that we had to be tighter on reporting and created a weekly dashboard that gives us the pulse of the business at any point in time. The wellness of FSI staff has moved to the top of our agenda, especially now that everyone is working remotely. “Additionally, we have had to change certain processes to ensure the smooth running of our projects. Some of the elements that were historically conducted face to face, such as training and scoping studies are now being conducted virtually. More emphasis is placed on carrying out upfront business analysis work, ensuring we have the correct stakeholders in meetings, and our approach is more focused, time bound and controlled via a strict agenda. All elements which are necessary to ensure these activities are meaningful and successful. Talking about the company’s achievements in 2020, Jarvis said that FSI has continued to develop and enhance its products. He says: “We have made changes in the method of use of our technology to encompass a ‘contactless’ approach for the users of our Contractor product suite with a view to helping combat Covid-19. We have also introduced a Wellness app for use in the workplace. “We are very proud to have supported Interserve, who has recently been awarded the IWFM Workplace Experience Non-office/Corporate Environment 2020 Impact Award, for rapidly mobilising all FM Services for Project Nightingale, the NHS hospitals to fight coronavirus, in just 12 days. FSI deployed a purpose-built SaaS deployment of our core enterprise CAFM/IWMS solution, Concept Evolution, for Project Nightingale. “Last, but not the least, October 2020 also marked FSI’s 30th anniversary in business.” Next year, from a product perspective, FSI will focus on the release of Concept Evolution v5.5 with enhancements to supply chain surveys and task appointments and management. He adds: “For 2021 further enhancements to the way task assignments can be managed in Concept Evolution, a new Surveys module with features for staff wellbeing, health & safety assessments, and improved mobile audit features for work and access surveys are being planned. “From a business perspective, our focus will be to continue to grow our client portfolio across MENA region.” WE HAVE MADE CHANGES IN THE METHOD OF USE OF OUR TECHNOLOGY TO ENCOMPASS A ‘CONTACTLESS’ APPROACH FOR THE USERS OF OUR CONTRACTOR PRODUCT SUITE WITH A VIEW TO HELPING COMBAT COVID-19. The company also successfully delivered CAFM project for its client based in Riyadh, KSA during the lock down period enabling it to monitor its contracts and maintenance activities remotely. In addition, Nanosoft developed and launched a marketplace platform on SaaS model which will help it to support a wider range of clients who wish to sell and buy products and services. Nanosoft director Eashak Ali says: “Being a CAFM software development and implementation company, the current Covid-19 pandemic has not affected our operations much; however, it has affected projects which were supposed to get awarded during the lockdown period. Eventually, the projects got awarded with a drop of 30% in prices. For operations, there was a brief pause for a couple of days during the initial lockdown to re-structure WFH with monitoring tools. The online meetings got more productive than before. “The key learnings was streamlining the remote software implementation process to our clients without missing the deadline and quality of execution and using the digital platforms effectively to connect and promote the products.” Ali added that the firm in the future will be continuing to upgrade all its SMART FM range of products and launching its inhouse developed and assembled IoT device for waste management. He says: “Our focus will be expanding our client base in UAE and other GCC regions.” He concludes: “The social and economic challenges caused by Covid-19 has emphasised the value of identifying the strengths and the weaknesses of a business to effectively operate and support the client needs, thus bringing in more innovative ideas and sustainable business model supporting the community.” BEING A CAFM SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION COMPANY, THE CURRENT COVID-19 PANDEMIC HAS NOT AFFECTED OUR OPERATIONS MUCH. The Future Rehabilitation Centre in Mohammed bin Zayed City is benefitting from energy reductions of over a third and water savings of nearly 30% as a direct result of the retrofit. Funds from a special co-branded, biodegradable credit card were used to finance the retrofit, which followed an extensive audit of the Future Rehabilitation Centre by Masdar’s Energy Services team and contractor Smart4Power. A percentage of the spending on the joint credit card, launched at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2013, goes toward a dedicated Green Fund for environmental projects selected by FAB. The extensive energy conservation project included the installation of an on-grid rooftop solar photovoltaic system providing 30 kilowatt-peak (kWp) capacity, an advanced ventilation and air-conditioning control system, various water-saving devices, special soil additives, LED lights, and thermal coatings on the school’s roof to reduce heat gain. A monitoring system has also been installed to verify the savings. The conservation measures identified as part of the retrofit project were installed on the 5,500m2 purpose-built facility, which was donated by the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi in 2011, by contractor Smart4Power, who played an important role in the delivery of the project and are responsible for monitoring the facility’s ongoing operations.
