< Previous80 | ATLAS BY ETIHAD | September 2024 Block Party Summer Manchester City returned to the United States last month in preparation for the forthcoming 2024/25 season as the club looks to build on last season’s success, when they were the fi rst English Premier League club to win four Premier League titles in a row. The British football team played Celtic in Chapel Hill, AC Milan in New York City, Barcelona in Orlando and Chelsea in Ohio, but they were also busy off -the- pitch with numerous activities and activations across the States. One of the talking-points of the summer was a block-party experience held outside of the fl agship PUMA store in New York, hosted by Manchester City in collaboration with PUMA, Etihad Airways and Experience Abu Dhabi. This involved transforming 49th Street and 5th Avenue into a custom-built court, featuring performances from live DJs, freestyle football displays, basketball-themed Manchester City celebrated the launch of its third kit with an all-star football-meets-basketball event on the streets of New York EtA_11Sep2024_EN_80-81_IDX Sponsorship_13356186.indd 8025/08/2024 23:19sponsorships September 2024 | ATLAS BY ETIHAD | 81 contests and various other activities. To every fan’s delight, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and various City stars were in attendance, including Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish. The event was a fi tting backdrop for Manchester City to launch the 2024/25 third kit, in collaboration with PUMA. To celebrate the launch, City and PUMA Hoops also collaborated on special Manchester City home and away basketball jerseys that were worn by the players, in addition to a question- and-answer session featuring Guardiola, basketball legend and PUMA icon Clyde Frazier, as well as famous NBA skills coach Chris Brickley. The event perfectly merged football and basketball culture in celebration of the brand-new Manchester City third kit. Twelve enthusiastic teams played with a blend of competitive fervor and communal spirit in a friendly yet fi erce battle on the pitch, culminating in a nail-biting fi nal in which Etihad Technical Operations triumphed over Etihad Engineering. It came down to a tense penalty shoot-out, ending with a close 4-3 victory. The high level of sportsmanship and camaraderie displayed by all teams was a testament to the positive atmosphere of the event. The tournament wasn’t only about football; it came as part of Etihad’s broader Sports Mission, a volunteer- driven initiative that reaches out to young refugees. Through sports, we provide these individuals with valuable opportunities to engage in physical activity, fostering physiological and emotional well-being. Our eff orts aim to empower these youths, giving them Champions for Change Etihad Airways’ CSR team kicked off a charity football tournament to support World Refugee Day a platform to build confi dence, develop teamwork skills and integrate more fully into their communities. Our commitment to the Sports Mission underscores the transformative power of athletics. We believe in using our resources and platforms to significantly impact the lives of those who need them most. Events like this charity football tournament not only help to raise awareness and support for critical issues like refugee welfare, but also reinforce the role of sports in promoting unity, health and resilience. Some passengers feel discomfort during take-off and descent as the air in their middle ear and sinuses expands and contracts. Chewing, swallowing, and yawning can help. Babies might suff er more acutely. Another side eff ect of the cabin’s atmosphere is the low humidity, leading to dry eyes, a sore throat, and thirst. Travellers should drink regularly but avoid alcohol and caff eine, both of which cause dehydration. Regularly applying moisturiser to the skin and lips will also help. It’s a great idea to wear glasses, too, rather than contact lenses, on long-haul fl ights. You should also aim to wear loose clothing and leave the area under the seat in front of you empty to allow space to stretch. Infection prevention Handwashing is the single most important infection control measure. Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds after touching potentially contaminated surfaces. As an alternative, you can use alcohol-based hand rub available in the sanitary kit in your seat pocket. Wiping surfaces with an alcohol wipe, if available, is also a good practice. If you feel unwell on the plane, inform the cabin crew immediately in order for them to provide you with the best possible medical care. For added measure, face masks should be considered to avoid spreading and contracting any illness caused by respiratory germs. One of the other ways to avoid getting sick on a plane is to always stay hydrated. Staying hydrated can also help our immune system stay protected against germs. Jet lag Jet lag’s eff ects vary depending on how many time zones are crossed, the individual’s ability to recover, and the direction of travel. To diminish the eff ects, rest well before fl ying and, if your schedule permits, move two hours towards the destination time before fl ight. In the air, eat lightly, reset your watch, and consume caff eine sparingly. Schedule outdoor activities For safe disposal of needles and syringes, please approach one of our cabin crew Sit up straight Place the pillow at the hollow of your back. Sit tall in your seat to avoid compressing your spine. Do not cross your legs. Instead, try to sit with your weight evenly distributed. Exercise techniques Simple exercises to help relieve tiredness Shoulder circles Sit tall and move forward in your seat. Bring your shoulders up towards your ears, then circle back downwards. Reverse the exercise by lifting shoulders towards your ears and drop them back. Ankle circles Sit tall in your seat and place the pillow under your thigh, just above the knee. Keep your weight even as you circle your ankle around, trying to keep the whole foot as still as possible. Neck rolls Sit back in your seat and fl atten the headrest. Gently roll your neck to one side, then back towards the other side. Keep the back of your neck extended. early on, limit daytime naps to 40 minutes or less, and go to bed at an appropriate hour for the new zone. Health Consult your doctor about any health concerns you have before fl ying. Pregnant women and those with heart or respiratory problems, blood diseases, or ear, nose and sinus infections should seek medical advice before fl ying. Travellers who scuba dive should wait 24 hours after their last dive before fl ying to minimise the risk of decompression illnesses. Although rare, deep vein thrombosis can also pose a threat. Passengers are encouraged to walk around periodically to decrease any potential risk.
