Then there are those where the food is so good you’ll be talking about it for days after, where the staff welcome you in like an old friend whether it’s your fi rst time or your 50th. Butcher & Still is all three. Drawing inspiration from 1920s Chicago, the steakhouse oozes refi ned glam. Think deep green walls, black and white tiling and brown leather banquettes. Details like the vintage tube lighting, old-school mixed drinks shakers and the bullet-lined grouting in the bathroom (you can’t picture Prohibition-era Windy City without Al Capone, after all) add to the eff ect. While many reserve a table for an anniversary, birthday or promotion because of that wow factor, there’s also a steady stream of regulars who come back week after week for the steaks. But also, who are we to say that making it to 5pm after a busy day of meetings isn’t a special occasion? Head Chef Marshall Röth takes great pride in only using USDA prime beef, which is why the Inspired by 1920s Chicago, this legendary steakhouse is bound to impress BUTCHER & STILL Clockwise from top: The detail in the interior design of the restaurant adds to its sophistication; The Hideaway is a private room seating 20 IMA GE S: SUPPLIED THE RESTAURANT steaks here are legendary, whether your choice of cut is a tomahawk or ribeye. If you’re in the mood for surf and turf, the 99% lump crab cake is a perfect way to start, and those with a sweet tooth will want to save room for the signature Tribune Tower chocolate cake, with 34 layers to mirror the iconic skyscraper’s 34 storeys. Service, as you might expect at the Four Seasons, is impeccable and you’ll more often than not have the chance to chat with chef Röth as he makes his rounds around the restaurant. A very special meal is guaranteed on every visit to Butcher & Still, but you can take it to the next level by reserving The Hideaway. Reached by a private elevator, the space can hold up to 20 guests and has costume jewellery and clothing for you to try on. But sometimes, the only thing you want to do is smash things – which is exactly what’s on off er at The Smash Room. The Smash Room in Al Rawdah is a safe space for letting loose on old washing machines, TVs, glasses, DVDs and more. Before you’re allowed into the smash room, you’ll have to put on protective gear including coveralls, gloves, a chest protector and a helmet with a face shield. The room itself is also soundproof, so you’re more than encouraged to scream, shout and jump about, safe in the knowledge that you won’t be annoying your neighbours. All you need to do is decide between the crow bars, baseball bats and hammers, and what you want to hit fi rst. There’s even an option to bring your own junk, so if team building is the name of the game, we’d suggest bringing the old offi ce printer that was forever running out of toner and shattering it into a million pieces (with your boss’ permission, of course). One of the two rooms is also equipped with spray cans for you to graffi ti the walls, should you prefer. Plus, while you’re letting your heart rate lower after your session (you will get surprisingly sweaty, no matter how fi t you are), you’ll be able to play arcade games in the café. While the Abu Dhabi branch has only been open just over a year, the original location in Dubai has seen tens of thousands of people unleash on unsuspecting household goods since 2018. But if you’re worried about where all the junk ends up post-smash, you’ll be pleased to know that the venue recycles everything it can, rescuing more than 85,000 pieces of electronics and 650,000 glass items from landfi ll to date. A smashing good time is guaranteed, without having to stress about the clean-up. thesmashroom.com Clockwise from above: Protective gear is provided for all guests; There are a number of missiles to assist with the fun day outIMA GE S: SUPPLIED THE ATTRACTION EtA_11Sep2024_EN_14-15_AD Guide_13356184.indd 1525/08/2024 22:49September 2024 | ATLAS BY ETIHAD | 17 suitcase The stylish way to travel IMA GE: SUPPLIED Dystopian dream Max&Co has collaborated with designer Richard Quinn to create its new &Co. collaboration, MAi, a crossover between the glamour of old sci-fi fi lms from the 1960s and an AI-dominated dystopian aesthetic.
