Pep Guardiola’s team are English and European champions and will be hoping to go one step further next month when they take on the world’s best teams at the FIFA Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia. The women’s side have also enjoyed success in the top-fl ight, while the academy sides continue to succeed in their respective leagues. Initially built for Manchester’s Commonwealth Games in 2002, the City of Manchester Stadium, as it was formerly known, was transformed for Premier League football and City moved in during the summer of 2003. The venue became the Etihad Stadium in 2011 and neither City nor Etihad have looked back since. The intervening years has seen the stadium’s attendance skyrocket to the more than 53,000 that now pack the stands to watch the seven-time Premier League champions playing football at its most beautiful. In 2028, Etihad will act as one of the 10 host stadia for the European Championships held across England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland. Summers without football see the world’s biggest musicians make the Etihad Stadium their home – with the likes of Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, and Taylor Swift all rolling into town in recent years. Meanwhile, national athletics, tennis, squash, and cycling competitions are regular events just a short walk from the home of the European champions. The City Football Academy, where all of the club’s sides train and the women’s team play, is just across from the stadium and sits alongside Connell Co-Op College and the Institute of Health for the public’s use. While there’s already nowhere better in the world to watch football, there’s still so much more to come from the Etihad Campus. Over the next three years City will be developing a best-in-class fan experience and year-round entertainment and leisure destination. The club’s plans include several connected all-weather facilities, fully integrated into the stadium, centred around an expanded North Stand with one larger, single upper tier above the existing lower tier, increasing capacity to over 60,000. A covered ‘City Square’ fan zone with capacity for 3,000 people will drum up the atmosphere ahead of kick-off , while a club shop, museum, workspace, and 400-bed hotel will also be constructed. As the Etihad Campus continues to develop for Manchester City fans in the city and all over the globe, it’s not just football that is attracting people to East Manchester. Manchester City Football Club is now celebrating two decades at its home – the Etihad Stadium Etihad Campus is better than ever at 20 years old! We also like to surprise and delight our Etihad Guest members with competitions and giveaways, including special trips to incredible destinations. In 2023, we’ve launched nine new routes, including Malaga, Mykonos, Lisbon, Kolkata, St Petersburg, Boston, Dusseldorf, and Osaka. Our ninth new route was Copenhagen, our fi rst destination in Scandinavia. To celebrate, we gave 30 lucky members the chance to win free fl ights to the delightful Danish capital. The winners were able to bring a plus one and choose between a three- or seven-day trip. To fi nd our winners, we randomly selected Etihad Guest members who were ADCB Etihad Guest credit card holders, and we also treated our top Miles on the Go spending Guests. Miles on the Go exclusively allows Guest members to earn extra miles by spending at any of our 1,100 participating partners across the UAE, from theme parks to restaurants and retail outlets. The more you spend on your linked Visa card, the more miles you earn. You can then spend your miles on fl ights with us or any of our partner airlines, holidays, hotels, or even treat yourself in our Reward Shop. The 30 lucky winners were then treated to an unforgettable experience. Before the fl ight, they made the most of the First Class lounge at Abu Dhabi airport, where they enjoyed delicious dining, spa treatments, and priority boarding. Then, we fl ew them to the dreamy Danish capital in style, on board our state-of- the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. As it was our inaugural fl ight to the destination, we commemorated this momentous occasion with bespoke Copenhagen branding. Our winners also received special welcome kits fi lled with memorabilia. After a fantastic fl ight, our members explored the superb Scandinavian city, enjoying the colourful canal of Nyhavn, Tivoli Gardens, the Little Mermaid statue, and much more. This commitment to a brighter future extends beyond aviation, as we strive to make a meaningful impact through projects that promote sustainable development, advance global education, and support humanitarian causes. These pillars are aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the UAE Vision 2030. In one of our more recent projects, for International Women’s Day, which falls on 8 March, our volunteers organised a series of activities in two camps for Syrian refugees in Jordan, in Mrajeeb Al Fhood and Khadeeja. One hundred women signed up for our Women Empowerment Programme, which was kicked off on 2 March in Mrajeeb Al Fhood: As part of the fi rst phase, Etihad provided beauty equipment for our female volunteers to conduct professional certifi cation workshops in makeup and hair styling. For phase two, participants were selected from the refugee children to make their wish come true by attending a Manchester City match. This was an amazing experience for all involved, and we are excited to continue our eff orts to make a positive impact on the lives of these refugees. Etihad Airways’ corporate social responsibility team organises regular initiatives to improve the well-being of communities all over the world Giving back will go for an assessment in April and the 12 best performers will be selected to join a 12-month training programme. Finally, in phase three, the top performer from the 12 selected will be awarded with their own beauty centre in Jordan. Volunteers also distributed garments and gifts to 420 refugee women in the Khadeeja camp and winter garments and gifts to 650 children. Volunteers played a football match with the young refugees and provided uniforms and shoes for the kids. Some passengers feel discomfort during take-off and descent as the air in their middle ear and sinuses expands and contracts. Chewing, swallowing, and yawning can help. Babies might suff er more acutely. Another side eff ect of the cabin’s atmosphere is the low humidity, leading to dry eyes, a sore throat, and thirst. Travellers should drink regularly but avoid alcohol and caff eine, both of which cause dehydration. Regularly applying moisturiser to the skin and lips will also help. It’s a great idea to wear glasses, too, rather than contact lenses, on long-haul fl ights. You should also aim to wear loose clothing and leave the area under the seat in front of you empty to allow space to stretch. Jet lag Jet lag’s eff ects vary depending on how many time zones are crossed, the individual’s ability to recover, and the direction of travel. To diminish the eff ects, rest well before fl ying and, if your schedule permits, move two hours towards the destination time before fl ight. In the air, eat lightly, reset your watch, and consume caff eine sparingly. Schedule outdoor activities early on, limit daytime naps to 40 minutes or less, and go to bed at an appropriate hour for the new zone. Health Consult your doctor about any health concerns you have before fl ying. Pregnant women and those with heart or respiratory problems, blood diseases, or ear, nose and sinus infections should seek medical advice before fl ying. Reverse the exercise by lifting shoulders towards your ears and drop them back. Ankle circles Sit tall in your seat and place the pillow under your thigh, just above the knee. Gently roll your neck to one side, then back towards the other side.
