AI: Solving big world challenges Among the key highlights of the event was the keynote address by Larry Ellison, Oracle’s Co- founder and Chief Technology Officer, during which he took centre stage to explore the transformative power of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI). He compared GenAI’s impact to a historic moment, stating, “ChatGPT has captured our imagination. This is like the Sputnik moment,” highlighting the widespread attention GenAI has garnered. The Oracle founder detailed how GenAI is becoming central to Oracle’s operations, fundamentally changing the way the company operates. He noted, “Generative AI is a revolution. It’s transformational. It’s fundamentally changing things at Oracle.” Ellison envisioned GenAI as a solution to address some of the world’s most pressing problems, particularly in healthcare and agriculture. In healthcare, Ellison described how GenAI is being integrated to augment the capabilities of medical professionals, making their tasks more efficient. He unveiled Oracle’s ambitious vision for the Public Health Data Intelligence Platform, designed to unify and manage healthcare data on a national scale. This initiative promises better patient outcomes and reduced healthcare costs through AI- driven insights. Ellison also highlighted GenAI’s potential in agriculture, where it could optimise resource utilisation and reduce environmental impact. He emphasised the role of GenAI, along with autonomous systems and cloud technology, in “reducing the amount of water and land mass required to grow crops and limit CO2 production.” CloudWorld 2023 also saw Oracle unveil several significant updates to its offerings. These updates include new GPUs optimised for AI training and inferencing tasks. Oracle further disclosed the expansion of several partnerships including with Microsoft, which will see the companies introduce Oracle Database@Azure, providing customers with direct access to Oracle database services hosted on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) within Microsoft Azure data centres. “Generative AI is a revolution. As we mature alongside AI and gain a clearer understanding of its impact, we can now contemplate the full spectrum of the benefits it offers. One of the most recent advances in AI is the development of Hypermodal AI, which integrates three different types of AI: predictive AI, causal AI, and generative AI. Fundamentally, Hypermodal AI represents an advanced concept that aims to seamlessly merge various modes or categories of AI models, enabling them to work synergistically and produce outcomes that surpass the capabilities of any individual model. Picture it as an ensemble, akin to an orchestra where each instrument, symbolising an AI model, performs its unique role, yet it’s the symphonic fusion of their combined contributions that generate a masterpiece. We caught up with Alois Reitbauer - Chief Technology Strategist, Dynatrace, to better understand this new approach, its significance and how it impacts cybersecurity strategies. Explain the concept of Hypermodal AI. Hypemodal AI combines fact-based, predictive AI and causal AI insights with generative AI capabilities. As organisations seek to capitalise on the immense potential of AI technologies and tools, Hypermodal AI is the key to success. This is due to the fact that only predictive AI Interview $46.3BN The projected value of AI in cybersecurity by 2027 edge_ october 2023 35 can see into the future reliably, only causal AI can deterministically know the root cause of an issue, and only generative AI can tailor recommendations and solutions to specific problems using advanced probabilistic algorithms. What is its role in improving cybersecurity and observability at scale? As systems are getting larger with more services running, more complex with the use of multi- cloud services, and more dynamic with constant software releases, it has become impossible for humans to analyse and react to performance issues and vulnerabilities. AI helps to speed up analysis and propose targeted remediation steps. Simply put, without the support of AI and related automation, modern cloud environments can no longer be managed reliably and securely. Can you elaborate on how Davis AI can provide real-time security insights and help optimise processes for DevOps teams? Davis AI transforms and augments data to enable more useful analysis, perform automatic tasks, and respond to user requests. More specifically, Davis’ predictive AI models and dynamic machine learning anticipate future behaviour related to the performance and security of applications based on past data and observed 36 edge_october 2023 interview patterns. Davis causal AI analyses real-time and context-rich data within the Grail data lakehouse and dependencies from Smartscape topology to provide precise answers and intelligent automation for issue prevention, deterministic root-cause analysis, and automated risk remediation. Davis CoPilot generative AI works with Davis predictive and causal AI to automatically provide recommendations and remediation actions, create suggested workflows and dashboards, and let people use natural language to explore, solve, and complete tasks. How do you envision hypermodal AI redefining productivity, decision- making, and security for organisations moving forward? Hypermodal AI has the potential to reshape efficiency across all organisational functions. Since the power of generative AI is significantly augmented by blending it with predictive and causal AI, each form of AI within Hypermodal AI can excel at specific capabilities. In forecasting, for instance, organisations can leverage predictive AI models that recommend future actions based on data from the past, seasonality, cloud application health, and other historical behaviours. When it comes to determining, causal AI can deliver fact-based, deterministic, and precise answers and intelligent automation based on analysing dependencies across large sets of observability, security, and business data while retaining an accurate context that reflects each data point’s source. Additionally, generative AI can assist organisations in solving specific tasks in the context of their own environment and situation. What advice would you give to organisations looking to enhance their cybersecurity posture through AI- driven solutions? When it comes to security, precision and accuracy are critical. For example, modern hybrid, multi- cloud, and cloud-native environments are dynamic and complex, thus security teams need a new, more mature approach to monitor and safeguard their organisations’ infrastructure investments and application security. Therefore, using a causal AI approach for vulnerability identification is key. It is equally important to look at data in context (e.g. is a vulnerability exposed to the internet? Does the vulnerable service have access to data?). Generative AI can then help to improve posture by generating the proper configuration, based on the output of causal AI fueled by contextual information.
