Every year the Residential Project of the Year will go to the project that has added significantly to its built environment – in terms of the quality of its design, build, location, and fit with the surrounding area. The Construction Week KSA awards celebrated the leading contractors, consultants, and sub-contractors that are building the massive gigaprojects that make the kingdom among the most exciting countries in the world. This year the award was handed to UNIMAC for the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. The project was recognised for not only becoming a great new addition to the city it is being built in, but is sure to be the centerpiece of the industry, as well as meeting an objective of KSA’s Vision 2030. Diriyah Gate Development Authority’s Wadi Hanifah Spine Infrastructure was highly commended in this category that also included Site Preparation Works for THE LINE, NEOM by Mofarreh AlHarbi & Partners as the shortlisted name. The Infrastructure Project of the Year goes to the project that makes an important contribution to its surroundings, demonstrates construction best practice, and can show how construction techniques and technology have contributed to its success. HIGHLY COMMENDED Wadi Hanifah Spine Infrastructure - Diriyah Gate Development Authority (DGDA) INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT OF THE YEAR WINNER: JEDDAH CORNICHE CIRCUIT – UNIMACTouted as the future of the industry, the Modular Project of the Year award was won by a project that has proved how it has contributed to fast, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions. This year, the award was lifted by Red Sea Global for its Turtle Bay Hotel. The project was steered to be harmonious with its context and the surrounding environment. The design promotes the local Saudi tradition by incorporating mashrabiyas, using modern materials. Developed by Red Sea Global, the Turtle Bay Hotel is a part of 28,000km2 The Red Sea Project, an upcoming destination located along the west coast of Saudi Arabia. The developer was established as a closed joint stock company wholly owned by the PIF to drive the development of the ambitious gigaproject. MODULAR CONSTRUCTION PROJECT OF THE YEAR WINNER: TURTLE BAY HOTEL (TBH) – RED SEA GLOBAL | CONSTRUCTION WEEK KSA AWARDS 2022 | 32This year, the Engineer of the Year award was won by Yaseer Taha Baaqeel, Project Manager, Diriyah Gate Development Authority (DGDA). Baaqeel was recognised for showcasing outstanding technical skills but also their intent to boost efficiencies, and maintain project delivery timelines. The highly commended in this category is Frederick Alconcel, Commissioning Engineer at AESG. The winning engineer could be working in any part of the construction chain, from suppliers through to contractors, sub- contractors, and consultants. Overall, the awards ceremony placed leading companies and individuals under the spotlight for contributing to the development of gigaprojects, making the kingdom amongst the most exciting countries in the world. In 2022, Zayed Almtawa, Project Manager, Diriyah Gate Development Authority (DGDA) was crowned as the winner. Almtawa was applauded for making an “outstanding” contribution to the organisation, the projects they were associated with as well as the industry and their passion for their work shines through. The winner guided all key stakeholders and partners on the critical design decisions, considering the relevance of the project. The award, however, was picked up by Eng Fakher Al Shawaf, CEO at Al Bawani, for his leadership skills that created a “solid impact” not only on the business, but the entire construction industry. The Real Estate Icon of the Year award is for an individual who has contributed towards the development of not only their company but also the real estate and construction industry in the kingdom in line with Vision 2030. While this category was not up for nominations, it was an editorial team award. The trophy was handed to David Grover, group CEO of ROSHN Real Estate Company. With over 35 years of experience working across masterplanned projects, Grover is responsible for leading ROSHN’s mission to deliver g reat communities with best-in-class homes. Grover’s major achievements include setting up and driving the growth in ROSHN’s development business; the establishment and management of the company’s operations in Asia; and significant experience in Europe and Asia.
