Belgian construction giant Besix, alongside its 50% owner, Egyptian contracting rm Orascom Construction, are building the museum, which is being developed on a 50ha plot. Construction on the project began in 2012, with Irish architecture rm Heneghan Peng having designed the structure. GRAND EGYPTIAN MUSEUM Location Cairo, Egypt Visited July 2019 King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) station is one of the four main stations of Riyadh Metro, an infrastructure megaproject set to transform the way people travel in Saudi Arabia’s capital city. Touted as the biggest elevated metro transfer station in the world at 32m high, 42m wide, and 232m long, it is raising the bar for architectural design and engineering. Located west of King Fahd Road, adjacent to the under-construction KAFD, the station will serve as the main interchange for Riyadh Metro, connecting Lines 1, 4, and 6. RIYADH METRO Location Riyadh, Saudi Arabia Visited May 2019 Dubai Investments Real Estate Company (DIRC), which is owned by Dubai Financial Market-listed Dubai Investments, is developing Mirdif Hills – a mixed use development covering an area of 9.3ha adjacent to Dubai Municipality’s Mushrif Park in Dubai’s suburban Mirdif neighbourhood. Valued at $816.7m (AED3bn), Mirdif Hills – which is the only freehold project in the suburb of Mirdif – is made up of three clusters, named Janayen Avenue, Nasayem Avenue, and Multaqa Avenue. MIRDIF HILLS Location Dubai, UAE Visited May 2019 Dubai-based private real estate developer Azizi Developments, headed by chairman Mirwais Azizi, is currently developing the $3.2bn (AED12bn) Azizi Rivera a mixed-use, four-phase megaproject, located within the city's Meydan One neighbourhood on the banks of Dubai Canal. Azizi Riviera comprises a cluster of 71 buildings, with 16,000 units ranging from studios to one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments.In May 2019, construction work on Azizi Riviera was 41% complete, with the developer having recorded 3.4 million safe man-hours on the site. AZIZI RIVIERA Location Dubai, UAE Visited August 2019PROJECTS 18 - 30 APRIL, 2020 CONSTRUCTION WEEK 41WWW.CONSTRUCTIONWEEKONLINE.COM Abu Dhabi developer Aldar is aiming to complete Mamsha Al Saadiyat by the middle of 2019, with building façades at the beachfront development having been completed by the time of Construction Week's site visit. The main construction contract for Mamsha Al Saadiyat, valued at $340.3m (AED1.3bn), was awarded in mid-2016 to a joint venture (JV) that includes Pivot Engineering & General Contracting, which represents 50%. The remaining 50% of the JV is made up equally of the UAE branch of San Jose Contracting and the Spanish branch, San Jose Constructora. MAMSHA AL SAADIYAT Location Abu Dhabi, UAE Visited February 2019 Sa'ada is a mixed-use, waterfront destination that its developer, government-backed Edamah, describes as one of the nation’s “most prestigious developments". Located in Muharraq – the main city on Bahrain’s second-largest island, situated to the east of Manama – Sa’ada features a marina, dozens of shops and restaurants, and a footbridge to Muharraq’s traditional souk. Work kicked off in Q1 2018, with reclamation required to create an 18,000m² plot and sea walls to protect the structures within the site. The two- phase project was 20% complete at the time of the site visit. SA'ADA Location Muharraq, Bahrain Visited February 2019 MIDTOWN Location Dubai, UAE Visited April 2019 Deyaar Development has merged 40 plots of land to bring its 46ha agship community, Midtown, to life. The mixed-use development is located in a growth corridor of Dubai and has direct access to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. Its transport links are further supported by its proximity to Jebel Ali Port, Al Maktoum International airport, and the Route 2020 Dubai Metro extension. Belhasa Engineering is the main contractor, having won a $163.3m (AED600m) contract. The World islands are a man-made archipelago located 4km off the coast of Dubai, with 300 islets reclaimed from the sea to form a collection of private residential and resort-style islands. Dubai-based real estate developer Kleindienst Group has acquired six islands, known as Germany, the Floating Venice, Sweden, Switzerland, St Petersburg, and Main Europe. These islands comprise the Heart of Europe, which will feature underwater living experiences called “ oating Seahorse Villas”, located around the heart-shaped St Petersburg Island.
