< Previous120 Palo santo burns in every corner of this 22-bedroom hotel, banishing negative vibes on the upper end of rue des Martyrs in the 9ème arrondissement, where Pigalle bumps into Montmartre. Hoy not only means ‘today’ in Spanish, but also stands for Home of Yoga. Franco- Mexican owner Charlotte Gomez de Orozco, a certifi ed teacher, has created a Japanese-infl uenced wabi sabi sanctuary of slate greys and mints, where the air is purifi ed and the minibar has been replaced by a ballet bar with instructions for pre-sleep and post-waking stretches. For all the artwork featuring yogic poses, and the reminders to breathe on lift doors, Hoy nonetheless feels like an indulgent sanctuary, where the little details have been thought of: the ceramic iPhone speaker stations, the old-school telephones with circular dials, the gorgeous slouchy kimonos, a collaboration with French brand Pausania and yours to keep for €55. The hot yoga studio from local collective Yuj off ers residents a discounted rate of €25 for classes under special Japanese infrared light. In the lobby, fl orist Chiaki Kokami runs fl ower-arranging classes, another Japanese touch in a hotel where the water is carbonated with binchõ-tan charcoal. The plant-based Mesa restaurant is a surprising joy, with dishes such as carrot lox, a take on the smoked-salmon version from the minds of Lauren Lovatt and Carolina Rodriguez, of the Plant Academy London. There are also sweet chia puddings with fruit compote and almond- butter-stuff ed purple corn pancakes. As with so much in this impeccably curated space, there’s pleasure to be had in living purposefully. Where Berluti did the shoe polishing, toiletries were by Etro and the nearest boutique was Hermès? It may have a glittering pedigree since it opened its doors in 1910 – the Art Deco Lutetia has played host to creative and literary luminaries like Josephine Baker, Picasso, Yves Saint Laurent and Catherine Deneuve – but the Left Bank Palace doesn’t rest on its laurels. Since its all-encompassing four-year revamp, which meticulously preserved the history of the property while subtly adding in all the high-tech advancements required by today’s sophisticated traveller, the hotel has upped the ante drawing in the same discerning crowd that has always fêted this Saint Germain icon. You’ll feel the pedigree of The Set Hotels – Amsterdam’s Conservatorium and London’s Hotel Cafe Royal are also part of their portfolio – but the distinctive Parisian character of Lutetia is all its own. Located in the heart of the city’s vibrant artistic district, the location may lure you, but the expertise of the staff – who are able to magic up a surprise birthday party for a two-year old with as much fi nesse as being able to secure tables at three-Michelin starred tables across the city – and the sheer comfort of the state-of-the-art rooms, is what sets this palace apart from the rest. Once ensconced in one of the 184 completely sound-proofed rooms or suites, you’ll see the attention-to-detail when it comes not just to aesthetics but to creature comforts. If you’re looking to go all out, book the two-level Eiff el Suite at the summit of the property, complete with an elaborate 800-square-foot terrace facing the symbol of the city. The only downside of this hotel? You won’t want to leave its comforting confi nes. To me, it captures old-school glamour at its fi nest and I treasure many memories of wild and fun after parties. You never know who you may bump into in the courtyard, which is fun. I never miss an opportunity to pop into Boot Star on Sunset Boulevard – their vintage jackets and boots are super cool. Blakes Hotel in London has been a favourite since the early days of starting my brand and I don’t think I will ever get bored of it. We hosted fabulous parties in the basement, and I love the darkness and decadence of the place. If I am in London, I always book a table in their restaurant as their food is insanely good. I try visiting the V&A as much as possible when in London as it never disappoints. Six Senses Ibiza boasts the Agora boutique which is run by my friends and carries some of our bestsellers, and my friend Ben is in charge of all their events which always includes some great artists and live music. The place has a real buzz and I can’t wait to go again this summer. My favourite shop on the island is Aho Ibiza: they design the coolest cowboy hats. Casa Cuixmala in Mexico is on a private estate owned by my dear friend and has its own private beaches perfect for turtle watching and horse riding. It is a magical place – sustainably run and pure magic. I barely leave the resort on my visits but I love Mexican glassware and fabrics and will always plan a trip to Puerto Vallarta to seek them out. Hotel Costes in Paris is my go-to address and one of my favourites. The hotel has an underground swimming pool which I love. The beds with white cotton linens are perfect to escape from fashion week and their room sprays and candles will always make their way home with me. It’s a romantic escape within Paris. I love fl ea markets so Clignancourt is always on my list followed by a good snoop around Rue Rivoli for some book shopping.
