Opened on May 2025 following a six-month transformation, this Montgomerie-based bistro by Gates Hospitality rede nes what “new” can mean in Dubai’s hospitality landscape. Rooted in the idea that nothing should go to waste, the design of Jardin des Arts (JDA) is built on creative reuse and respect for materials with a past. Much of the furniture and woodwork was upcycled from previous Gates venues like Folly and Publique. These pieces were carefully restored, reupholstered and reimagined, not as an afterthought, but as a central design principle. “It was deeply personal,” says Aakansha Gurnani, Operations Manager. “Each piece carries a story, now retold in a new setting. It’s a form of creative continuity that we’re proud of.” The interiors evoke timeless French garden elegance blended with understated Dubai charm. Fabrics were chosen on-site in natural light, tested for comfort and visual harmony. Tableware adds character with bespoke pieces from Born Free Ceramics, including olive oil bottles shaped like the Eiffel Tower and shoe- inspired cocktail glasses. Key to the experience is how plants are used, not as ornamental afterthoughts, but as spatial tools. Greenery helps de ne zones, creating moments of intimacy without hard dividers. Even the crayons given to children are part of the narrative: biodegradable and 52 commercialinteriordesign.comJuly 2025Jardin Des Arts embedded with seeds, they can be planted at home reinforcing the message that everything can grow again. The design process was collaborative and cross-disciplinary. From operational workshops to artisan partnerships, every element was intentional. Sourcing through Renarte ensured that even the OS&E aligned with the project’s sustainability goals. While JDA is a restaurant, it’s also a broader design statement. It proves that second-life materials, if treated with care, can create emotionally resonant and visually elevated spaces. In contrast to the dominant rhythm of tear-downs and fast builds, JDA is a deliberate pause, a case study in how slower, more mindful design can still meet the standards of luxury hospitality. “This project is a love letter to re ned, responsible design,” says Gurnani. “It’s proof that beauty and sustainability can absolutely coexist.” For interior designers and hospitality brands in Dubai, JDA offers a timely reminder: innovation doesn’t always mean brand-new. Sometimes, it’s already there waiting to be reimagined. “Each piece carries a story, now retold in a new setting.
