On the anniversary of Da Vinci's death, we take a look at his lasting legacy, specifi cally in the fi elds of architecture and design and his contribution for the future. Da Vinci's prowess in painting and sculpting is memorialised with a collection of artworks. His love for science was often characterised by his logical approach to problem-solving and passion for engineering. These two sides of Leonardo Da Vinci combined magnifi cently through his architectural works. After all, isn't architecture the marriage of science and the arts? Throughout his splendid, often unspoken architectural career, Da Vinci drew buildings, bridges, castles, and cathedrals and his sketches included intricate details of elements like doors, windows, staircases, and walkways. His legacy included the design of cities, taking inspiration from the ideologies of early city planners with his own improvisations. It is not easy to identify a coordinated vision of Leonardo's ideal city because of his disoriented, often discontinuous notes and sketches.
