The newest branch of Japanese-founded Italian-style restaurant brand Pizza 4P'S has opened in one of these tall towers. The restaurant is on the ground fl oor of Landmark 72, which itself is situated in an area that's dense with multi-storey buildings that house people and offi ces. Pizza 4P'S brand is part of a smaller chain of restaurants that prides itself on caring about the quality of food served to customers. As well as growing their own organic vegetables, when the company discovered fresh mozzarella cheese wasn't readily available in Vietnam, it decided to make its own and now produces over 20 artisan cheeses in the country. This attention to detail fl owed through into the design brief for ODDO Architects, a young architectural fi rm based both in Vietnam and the Czech Republic. One of the main conceptual goals of the restaurant was creating a place where the customers forget about the surrounding commerce of a high-rise building. An ethos of remake and reuse was expanded to the FF&E, as the restaurant interior was partially equipped with renovated and customised older furniture from a restaurant in Hanoi that unfortunately went out of business. Among these furniture elements, one of the most distinctive is a long dining table for 12 people, made of reinforcement steel bars in the shape of structural stirrups, wood-concrete supporting legs and glass top to expose table structure underneath. Pizza 4P'S restaurant space is an attractive place, say its designers, with a certain dose of Hanoi's genius loci – a fascinating blend of East meets West – with a sense of comfort and spatial excitement from being outside of the aided the design process in this regard. Another design feature intended to impact on visitors was to create cylinders of different heights, inspired by the look of traditional kilns used for fi ring Vietnamese terracotta bricks. Seven wooden cylinders of different sizes are anchored around the restaurant and suspended from the reinforced concrete slab of upper fl oor and structurally supported by T-columns. This feature allows rhythmic highlighting of the restaurant space and at the same time maximises the usable area to offer seating to a larger number of customers. These cylinders are built of wooden blocks similar to bricks traditional to northern Vietnam. They're assembled without gluing by using joints and this dry method of fi xing means the wood can expand itself according to changes in humidity and temperature, which are Woods include local materialsWorld view 57 March 2021 commercialinteriordesign.com These huge cylinders mimic traditional kilns Some interior fi ttings are upcycled Intricate and striking wooden bricks Project details Architects: ODDO architects: Nguyen Duc Trung, Marek Obtulovic, Nguyen Manh Cuong, Mai Lan Chi Obtulovicova, Doan Quoc Dat Floor area: 3,30sqm Completed: 2020 Construction time: 2.5 months Capacity: 110 persons Photographer: Hoang Le conventional 'glossy' commercial spaces that are becoming typical for the fast- growing city.Objects of desire commercialinteriordesign.com March 2021 58 1AL KHAYL MODULAR POUF This furnishing brings together multilayered aspects of our culture.
