The moral injunction of American pop culture could easily be applied to our Power 50, which traditionally ranks the good and great of the region's commercial interior design sector. For 2021, we've broadened the remit to include the industry's fi t-out fi rms, suppliers and young, upcoming talent, recognising their roles in a process that requires coexistence and support to thrive. Similarly, we hope the rest of the February issue excels in its job of supporting such a key cover feature. Serhii Makhno – Ukrainian architect, designer, ceramist and collector – shares his team's trend predictions and plans for the next 12 months. Luxury product designer Sara Alharbali welcomes us into her world, where spirituality and urbanity meet in a brand that's homegrown in the UAE. This month our special report looks at lighting design, with a stunning new product range from a British-Czech designer and an illuminating third-wave coffee shop design from Saudi Arabia. From the new, to the historical and how architects in the Czech Republic undertook a sympathetic rennovation of the country's second largest castle. We hope you enjoy reading it all. DT1 is the property developer's fi rst project in Downtown Dubai and also the fi rst to include an art gallery. Developed in collaboration with leading art auction house, Artiana, The Ellington Art Gallery will host the works of artists from around the world. Already in situ in the lobby is Neel's central art piece 'The Levitate'. Finished in high gloss steel, it represents how global and local cultures have merged in Dubai. Speaking about the collaboration, Neel said: "When I saw the building from the inside out, I realised the very concrete urban setting that DT1 had, I wanted to create a diamond in the rough. So I thought about a silky, fl oating sculpture that's just fl owing in the wind. Originally the fi nish was intended to be a darker, brassier Developer Ellington and artist Neel Shukla collaborate on art project 'The Levitate' hangs in the lobby of new residential development DT1 fi nish, but when I started doing the 3D part of the presentation, I changed it to this beautiful, refl ective fi nish." Charaf Eddine Mounaim, Ellington's marketing director, adds: "We visited Neel in his studio and we were amazed with the way how he works. He can touch so many topics and go in so many directions. When we see it with the lights or when you see it without the lights, it's performing in its own space. 'The Levitate' has shaped this area and shaped this experience [at DT1]."
