The company is built on centuries of tradition and the unique art of master glass makers. Its lighting styles range from individual luxury lighting to dynamic and interactive installations. We find its creations in hotels, resorts, restaurants, luxury residences, cultural institutions and on board yachts and cruise ships. Preciosa has offices throughout the Middle East and a factory in the Czech Republic's 'Crystal Valley' that has been making Bohemian crystal since 1724. Pictured right is its striking shell- inspired installation at Plato’s, Atlantis The Palm in Dubai. Designed by Petr Korinek, in collaboration with HBA Dubai, the chandelier is comprised of approximately 35,000 cut beads in three shades of blue. To create the illusion of being underwater, about 4,500 almond trimmings on 180 hanging points float around the shell. "Such a design is much more complicated for production than the typical chandelier we are asked to design," said Korinek. "We are really lucky to have so many skilled workers here in Preciosa – not every company would be able to create and build such a 3D shaped shell fixture." Preciosa recently completed lighting projects for The Address Fountain Views in Dubai and is working on new properties The Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Hilton Palm Jumeirah and Marriott Resort Palm Jumeirah. Also new for 2020 is the nature- inspired Fractal family, created by Austrian designer Thomas Feichtner. He's quoted as saying, "The smallest feline is a masterpiece" and cats appear in at least 11 of his drawings. On many subjects, da Vinci was ahead of the curve, but could he ever have predicted the current obsession with cats, living their best nine lives as internet memes and pampered pets. In creations Laki and Nikko (pictured), the timeless charm of the feline form is captured by Italian design house Chorustyle. Echoing the Old Master's study of the humble moggy and Hidari Jingoro's famously lifelike wood carving of a sleeping cat at a shrine in Nikko, Japan, each piece is obtained through precise crafting of thin layers of metal using nanotechnologies. This ensures a range of glossy, even colours available through the brand's newly-launched virtual showroom.commercialinteriordesign.com August 2020 46 Latest products Dupont by klaus dupont Naturally objects and "ancient fragments" spark the imagination of Berlin-based artist Klaus Dupont. His one-off pieces are made from flea market finds, like this bronze bear uncovered in Porte de Vanves, Paris. Klaus' daughter Sara painted the trompe l'oeil wooden base and Italian glass designer Fabio Brasili added colourful Murano pearls. These curious showpieces often represent wildlife and with the sad news that the polar bear is facing extinction, this could become a historical treasure in more ways than one. Heavy ceramic tiles are common among Japanese buildings and tile art is used to elevate indoor spaces. BEST SHOT49 August 2020 commercialinteriordesign.com Craving re-engagement with your favourite third place space? The high street coffee shop is a daily jump off point for many people. With so many eyes on it daily, why should the venue's design be dulled by a cookie cutter approach? Coffee Machine Bakery in Vladivostok is the fl agship store of a successful chain and the fi rst major street retail project of Miyao Design Studio. Located in the historic centre of the city, it was conceptualised by a team made up of lead architect Katerina Borodina; art director Sergei Piterskii and graphic designer Anton Tretyak. As the bakery stands at the centre of the Coffee Machine store, so baking is integral to its design process. A quick service area at its entrance is themed with accent materials of copper and steel, the colour of which is associated with the warmth of baking. To obtain the desired colour of the steel panels, they were processed with a specifi c chemical composition and baked in an oven. At the back of the 151 square metre space, there is an open bakery, which is clearly visible from the entrance area. Due to the difference in height, it seems like the bakery stands on stage. A white bakery and a darkened room are separated by a wall with black volumetric panels, and thanks to the resulting contrast, everything that happens in the kitchen looks more dramatic and interesting. The original brick has been preserved in this zone. The use of darker shades of decoration and spotlighting helped us create a more intimate area with various types of seats, which means it can accommodate both large and small groups of visitors. Burgundy, the colour of this cafe chain, became the connecting element of the whole interior. It determined the choice of colour for wall panels, chair and countertop drapery. They also developed special branding elements for this project – a neon sign was designed and manufactured for the photo zone under the stairs, and a lightbox with a pattern repeating the pattern of concrete panels was placed on the facade of the building. The use of all these techniques has helped to make the interior more expressive when viewed through windows from the street. Other zones cater for different customer scenarios – getting a coffee on the way to work in the morning, have a snack or hold a working meeting in the afternoon or meeting friends in the evening. Under the stairs, we fi nd created a special zone using glossy tiles in the Japanese style. This area is more visually attractive than functional, so it has become the most photographed by visitors. The coffee shop, which is a narrow and long space, also houses a monumental bar, which is decorated with concrete panels in terrazzo style. The contrasting panel pattern was created specifi cally for this project and was laid out manually in the process of production. A compact but complex interior where the aesthetic remains visually simple, Coffee Machine Bakery adds a shot of caffeine to the design process.
