Founded in 2018 by Matthew Sexton and Laila Al-Yousuf, after working at Perkins + Wills, the fi rm has won a total of 54 projects and delivered more than one million square feet of space. Clients the designers have worked with include Facebook, PwC, Uber, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, PepsiCo, and Abu Dhabi School of Government. The the nine-strong team recently moved into new offi ces at The Onyx Tower One, near The Greens in Dubai. At the time the founders said they wanted to focus on 'giving back' to the city, so Commercial Interior Design caught up with them to see how that's developed. Al-Yousuf has continued to champion the Surge for Water initiative that invests in communities, through safe water and sanitation solutions. Every year, the design community in Dubai participates in a gala Say Studio celebrates two years in business and a new offi ce space Matthew Sexton and Laila Al-Yousuf co-founded the design offi ce and competition, hosted here by the not- for-profi t organisation. "It's a chance for the design community to come together and network for a good cause," says Al Yousuf. "And hopefully encourages designers to think about sustainability on a daily basis." Say Studio promotes Leadership in Energy and Environment Design and Well Building Standard, which is the fi rst architectural and design benchmark focused on well-being, to clients. An email sent by Alabbar to Emaar staff reads: "When you reach the end of this email, you will notice something different. I have no job title. And from this moment onwards, nor do you." The company says it intends to focus on its culture and concentrate on "talent, not titles" in the future. Alabbar, who took a 100 per cent paycut at the start of the COVID-19 crisis, says that business cards will simply state the name and department of Emaar employees. The developer behind the Address- branded hotels operates commercial spaces across Dubai, include malls, restaurants and entertainment areas. Most recently it opened the Address Sky View in Downtown Dubai. The Skidmore, Owings & Merrill- designed property is Emaar's eighth Address hotel and features an incredible three-level sky bridge and views over the Burj Khalifa. Light Touch PLD appoints senior lighting designer at Dubai offi ce Light Touch PLD has named Maurizio Ciavolella as the new senior lighting designer for its Dubai offi ce. Ciavolella took his master's degree in Architecture at the University of Naples, Italy, before continuing his specialisation in lighting design with a second level masters that he studied at the University of Rome. After collaborating with various design fi rms he then founded his own studio, then recently relocated from Italy to the UAE to join Light Touch PLD's team of designers. "Maurizio, with his decades of experience, does not cease to inspire and to stay excited about his work and projects," says Andrea Acciarresi, Light Touch's associate director. "He immediately integrated with the team and is a trusted leader." Light Touch recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. Starting as a team of four, the workforce has grown to 20 in Dubai and 50 internationally, working on projects of all sizes and uses, from F&B outlets and private villas to shopping malls, hotels of all categories and full city masterplans.
