The third volume corresponds to the cats' shelter. It's the smallest one and has 12 independent accommodation spaces, with a central space of circulation around an interior garden that serves as a playground area for cats and is lit by a large skylight. Outside walls and ceilings are covered in ETICS system with light grey color and thermal insulation on all surfaces. In the roof are bitumen sheet membranes, thermal insulation and protection by natural pebble stone. On the balconies and in the visitors' car park there is dark grey concrete fl ooring. The access route to the basement fl oor (for loading and unloading services) is local granite cube. Inside, the fl oors are continuous and waterproof, with the application of self- levelling epoxy fl oor. On the walls of the bathrooms, in the changing rooms, on the stairs and in the interior garden of the dog building is a single light grey microcement coating. The doors and cabinets carpentry are made with white lacquered MDF. Outside, the granite stone walls were cleaned and preserved, in keeping with the local construction method. The fence of the dog training camps uses granite posts to secure the fence nets. These granite posts already existed on the ground, and were used in the vineyard near the walls of the planting fi eld. It's not just humans who need a place to stay. Vacationing cats and dogs check in to The Canine & Feline Hotel in Parada, Vila do Conde, Portugal, where the main program consists of temporary dog and cat accommodation, as well s a vetinary offi ce, a grooming room, outdoor training areas and a swimming pool for pets. It is set over three buildings consisting of three different areas that are interconnected. This seperates the cat zone from the dog zone, avoiding the meeting of both. The third building houses all the public service spaces. The three areas were also designed to reduce the impact of the construction area and to help the building integrate into the surrounding landscape. The fi rst building is single storey and is where you'll fi nd the reception and support area with service desk, a small shop, a storage room, sanitary facilities, an offi ce, a vet's offi ce and a grooming room. The second volume is the biggest one and takes advantage of the existing topographic for the creation of two fl oors, functioning as a link between the highest part of the terrain (the entrance area) and the lower part (an animal playground). Upstairs there are spaces for 41 dogs, separated by the central corridor with a small garden to obstruct the eye contact of the animals facing each other.
