MARCH 2026 / USA.BOUTIQUEHOTELIER.COM / 5 BOUTIQUE In the month where people around the world will come together to celebrate International Women’s Day (March 8), Boutique Hotelier is proud to unveil its annual ‘Women in Hotels’ list for a fifth year. The list recognizes the achievements of female hoteliers across the USA, who have risen up the ranks of the hospitality industry, overcoming challenges and often making unseen sacrifices to excel in their positions. In 2026, we have added 10 new additions to the list, from across the boutique and luxury hotel space. These ten women have been chosen because of their exceptional contribution to the hospitality industry, which has seen them lead their hotels to record-breaking revenues and increased guest satisfaction. Our featured leaders are also vocal advocates for the advancement of women, with many mentoring younger female colleagues who are looking to take the next step in their careers, or speaking on industry panels about their experiences as women in the workplace. Through celebrating these incredible leaders, we hope to inspire the next generation of female hoteliers and encourage further diversity in the hospitality space. This special edition also coincides with our second annual Women in Hotels Brunch, taking place on March 31 at Walker Hotel Greenwich Village, which is designed to educate, support and inspire women working in the sector. While our annual list is a celebration of progress, working women still face a number of challenges in the office –childcare arrangements, equal pay and gender bias being just a few prominent examples. Through our Women in Hotels list and brunch event, we hope we can encourage the important conversations that will lead to a better, more inclusive hotel industry for all. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Chinese state-run Dajia Insurance Group is preparing to bring the hotel to market imminently, through real-estate investment bank Eastdil Secured. As part of the sale, the hotel’s adjoining restaurants, shops and other amenities would be included, but the branded residences within the development would continue to be sold separately. The historic hotel, which first opened its doors on Park Avenue in 1931, closed in 2017 to undergo an extensive restoration helmed by architects Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and renowned interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon. Eight years and a reported $2bn investment later, the hotel reopened with a dramatic new look last June. The hotel’s number of bedrooms was reduced from 1,400 to 375, meaning the rooms are some of the largest in the city, starting at 570 square feet. Waldorf Astoria New York is also home to three food and beverage experiences including signature restaurant Lex Yard and Peacock Alley Lounge. A sprawling spa – one of the largest spas in New York City – spans over 30,000 sq.ft and is complemented by a ‘cutting-edge’ fitness center. Atop the reimagined hotel sits 375 private residences, known as Waldorf Astoria Residences New York. Waldorf Astoria New York was acquired by China’s Anbang Insurance Group from Hilton for $1.95 bn in 2015. Its redevelopment was originally projected to take two to three years to complete, but was delayed by the onset of the pandemic and a high-profile corruption scandal in 2018, when Anbang was seized by the Chinese government. The property and other Anbang assets are now controlled by Dajia. Waldorf Astoria New York reportedly for sale less than a year after $2bn relaunchNext >
