< Previous- A D Par tnership - AD_036_38-41_Partnership_Maserati_11460197.indd 4013/12/2020 10:21:42 AMAs the sun set on a balmy September evening at Modena’s legendary racetrack in Northern Italy, a new era dawned. The Maserati MC20 (Maserati Corse 2020) was unveiled in the grandest of fashions. In what has been one of the most anticipated reveals in the luxury car brand’s history (not to mention that of the entire supercar industry), Maserati didn’t hold back on the opportunity to announce its new baby to the world – a unique specimen of firsts for the manufacturer. Indeed, the MC20 is the first time that Maserati has off ered a race car for the road. It’s a first car with butterfly doors, which as well as enhancing the beauty and functionality of being able to get in and out of the car, also allow for amplified aerodynamics. It’s the first Maserati made almost entirely from carbon fibre. Built around the carbon chassis, it’s just over 1400kg, which makes for an agile drive. The MC20 is also the first Maserati to use down force by channelling it underneath the car, as opposed to over the top of it. This duly creates stability and allows for a much cleaner design of the upper body, which only serves to enhance its good looks. It’s a thing of beauty. The Nettuno engine is the first to be built and engineered entirely by Maserati, using a patented Formula One technology called pre-chamber combustion. Finally, this is the first car of its kind made 100 percent in Modena. With incredible aerodynamic eff iciency the new Nettuno engine boasts torque of 730 Nm that delivers 0-100 km/h acceleration in under 2,9 seconds and a top speed over 325 km an hour. It’s an engine that signals Maserati’s return to producing its own power units after a break of more than 20 years. It’s a car that doesn’t compromise on comfort or luxury, with a truly beautiful interior and refined driving comfort to match. On the outside, it’s a work of sculptural engineering dubbed as a ‘masterfully chiselled block of raw carbon carved for speed.’ Shown here is the the new Bianco Audace (White) model and there will also be five other (equally intriguing) colours created ‘in the spirit of contrast and harmony’. Take your pick from Blu Infinito (Blue), Grigio Mistero (Silver), Rosso Vincente (Red), Giallo Genio and Nero Enigma (Black). At its launch, Maserati CEO Davide Grasso revealed that the MC20 was merely one component in the car marque’s bold plans for the coming years. “Since the beginning, Maserati was powered by passion, innovative by nature and unique by design,” he said. “Audacity is what the current times are demanding from all of us to build our future together. And at Maserati, our future is bright. What is new? All our new models will be electrified. [Using] new technologies, Maserati will reach level three of autonomous driving and the most advanced connectivity systems.” “And last but not least, we’re going back to racing, back to where everything started for us,” Grasso added. “With MC20 we’re introducing more than a super car. We are setting the cornerstone to build the future of Maserati.” maserati.com - A D Par tnership - “We’re going back to racing – where everything started for us. What a Carré On A spectacular exhibition celebrating the artistry and skill that goes into creating Hermès’ iconic silk scarves is heading to Dubai AD_036_48-50_Radar_Style Hermes_11450174.indd 4813/12/2020 11:56:42 AMI n November 2019, in the Age Before Covid, Pierre Alexis Dumas, artistic director of Hermès, welcomed guests into Paris’s glass vaulted Carreau du Temple for the maison’s Carré Club exhibition. It was part of a rolling series of celebrations that had taken place across the globe (NYC, Toronto, Singapore, LA, Milan, Hangzhou) devoted to the house’s iconic, richly decorative scarves. It was more than just a brand exercise for Dumas; looking over the expansive range of silk accessories, from historical designs to contemporary innovations, he was taking in the family lega- cy. “Robert Dumas began this journey, and it’s our duty to keep it alive for the future,” he said of his ancestor, who created the fi rst Hermès scarf in 1937. And it’s a trajectory that’s set for a dazzling new twist in 2021, with the arrival of the Carré Club in January at Dubai’s Rem Koolhaas-designed arts ven- ue, Concrete. Best of all, the exhibition isn’t just for fashion mavens and VIP clients – it will be open to everyone. Designed as a series of zones to highlight diff erent facets of the Hermès craft world, it will showcase the artistry and skill of the Parisian house’s ateliers. Artisans will be on hand to demonstrate their deft, steady-hand in silk painting, while other sections will demonstrate the evolving aesthetics of the Hermès scarf. Most strikingly, the Carré Club will bring together a series of contemporary artists to create their own rendering of the scarf; Italian painter Gianpoalo Pagni’s col- lages and child-like renderings of horses, or Japanese artist Daiske Nomura’s fairytale imagery employing the maison’s horsebit. And while the futuristic skylines of the city might seem a world away from the Belle Epoque grandeur of Paris’ 10th arrondisse- ment, where in the Grand Boulevards district Thierry Hermès founded a luxury saddlery business, the two have one thing in common: a zest for newness. Robert Dumas, son-in-law of the founder’s grandson, looked to wood- blocks to make patterns on silk in the 1930s, a process that had long been used in the Far East but was less prevalent in Europe, noting that the degree of intricacy in doing so was unrivalled. The Hermès scarf was born. “ Each scarf can take an astonishing two years to craft, from design to production ” CLOCKWISE: Model wears a Projets carrés au crayon scarf and a Le Trésor de Médor scarf in silk twill; Circuit 24 Faubourg scarf in shirt silk twill, SS21; Projets Carrés au Crayon in silk twill AW20.
