Serving up burgers that are ground daily and made with black Angus beef, this hole- in-the-window hot spot – the burgers are literally served through a hole in the window – was established by engineer-turned-chef and entrepreneur Khaled Al Madani, with excellent options including The Biker – an old-school cheeseburger, The Genius – an Oklahoma-style smashed burger or The Adventurer, loaded with house jalapeños. Fat Mo’ Serving up utter meat marvels that come seeping juice and oozing with flavour, the humongous patties at Fat Mo’ may require some serious appetite, but we’re more than up for the challenge. If you’re feeling particularly peckish, you can’t go wrong with the Fat Texas with bacon, caramelised onion, American cheese and Mo’ sauce, or, if you’re feeling fancy, the truffle mushroom and emmental cheese is a humdinger. There are chicken options too, while sides are equally impressive, from crisp fries to loaded hot dogs and shakes thick enough to double as dessert. O Open daily 11am-4am. Unlicensed. Airport Road, Al Mushrif, @fatmo.ae (058 573 0333). LENTO Brainchild of Emirati chef and restaurateur Faisal Naser, LENTO opened back in 2020 to rave reviews, and it still regularly draws in the punters to this very day. Championing artisanal over commercial, with Naser making 90 percent of the ingredients from scratch, the patties here are little works of art, with a slow element or slow condiment in everything served – be it black garlic, aged cheese or special homemade vinegar. O Open Sun-Thu 1pm-11.30pm, Fri-Sat 1pm- midnight. Unlicensed. Al Danah, @lento.ae (056 926 5656). Slaw and More A home-grown burger joint (our favourite kind), Slaw and More down at Al Qana was originally created by chef Ali Yazdi, who specialises in elevated versions of the humble food staple. Think a burger with truffle sauce with mild aged gouda cheese, seasonal truffle and Parmigiano Reggiano, or the canoe marrow cheeseburger with soy-glazed grilled bone marrow and the BBQ bacon with barbecue sauce and smoked bacon jam, all made from dry-aged wagyu rib-eye, making them some of the juiciest in Abu Dhabi. But it’s not just the beef that steals the show – the buns are perfectly soft yet sturdy, the pickles zing just right, and the sides are worth a detour on their own. It’s audaciously creative. O Open Mon-Thu noon-1am, Fri-Sun noon-2am. Unlicensed. Al Qana, @slawandmore (054 289 9323).
