< PreviousV olatile markets. Chip shortages. Manufacturing delays. Today’s fl eet and asset managers face unprecedented challenges in obtaining the equipment they need to keep their businesses running. The demand for used equipment continues to increase, and savvy companies know that Ritchie Bros. online auctions and digital marketplaces are great solutions that deliver outstanding results and meet their asset management goals. FULLY ONLINE AUCTIONS Online selling methods have become the new norm for many international equipment buyers, especially during pandemic times with border closures and travel restrictions. To no surprise, Ritchie Bros.’ online Timed Auctions have seen massive growth in domestic and cross-border participation, leading to a broader international footprint and stronger price performance. HOW DO THEY WORK? When you think about an auction, you might think about fast-talking auctioneers leading the action. The online Timed Auctions are diff erent. Ritchie Bros. Timed Auctions use an easy-to-use online system that tracks bids as they’re received. Bidding is open for several days, and buyers receive notifi cations to stay up to date. Having more time to bid is an advantage for both bidder and seller. Like pre-COVID, the auctions are still unreserved, meaning there are no minimum bids and the highest bidder always wins the item. What makes a bidder confi dent enough to place a bid? Online listings for inventory in the auctions include numerous photos, inspection reports, and other details. Bidders can also come to the auction location and inspect items in person. Having these two options helps buyers understand the equipment they are bidding on. It ensures buyer confi dence - essential since all equipment is sold ‘as is, where is.’ When it comes to selling, the more eyes that are on your equipment, the better the price performance can be. This is where online auctions eff ectively increase international reach and get your equipment in front of as many potential buyers as possible. Ritchie Bros. regularly sees big equipment going to bidders from all over the world. Dozers sold for a customer in the UAE to a buyer in Peru, excavators from the Gulf region sold to buyers in Uganda. This kind of international reach is hard to fi nd elsewhere. Ritchie Bros. is uniquely positioned to connect Gulf-based equipment sellers to overseas buyers using its innovative online timed auction format. UNUSED AND NEAR-NEW EQUIPMENT ARE ALSO AVAILABLE It’s a common misconception that only used equipment is available in Ritchie Bros. auctions or marketplaces. That’s not the case. There is more unused equipment and low mileage/hour or near-new surplus equipment than people often realize. It’s advised to create a free account and check out the inventory on the rbauction.com website regularly to avoid missing the best deals. HIGH DEMAND DRIVES PRICE PERFORMANCE In the first quarter of 2021, Ritchie Bros. global website traffic was up 47% year over year, and bidder registrations were up 49%. Increased buyer activity can be attributed to By Eduard Faig, regional sales manager at Ritchie Bros. Middle East. HOW RITCHIE BROS.’ SERVICES ARE CONNECTING MORE BUSINESSES AROUND THE WORLD INSIGHT 10 PLANT / MACHINERY / VEHICLESwww.plantmachineryvehicles.comDECEMBER 2021the fact that auctions provide quick access to work-ready equipment, not only in the Middle East but around the world. Overall demand remains strong, as is reflected in auction participation and price performance. As well as construction, rental and agriculture, the new generators extend the Doosan Portable Power portfolio to a wider audience to cover applications such as home standby, telecommunications and back-up power for small businesses. Jan Moravec, general manager, Doosan Portable Power for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said: “The MEA market for generators in the range 10-75 kVA totals about 80000 units with 45000 in the Middle East and 35000 in Africa. Doosan Portable Power has signifi cantly grown sales in the region since 2017 and in 2021, the business is now able to provide a full range including Rental specifi cation products, which cover the majority of the market’s needs.” As a result, the four new small generators – the G20, G30, G40 and G60 – are all available as both stationary (XW) and rental (RW) confi gurations. The G20XW/RW, G30XW/RW, G40XW/RW and G60XW/RW provide prime power outputs of 18/19, 30/29, 41/43 and 58/59 kVA, respectively, and all are available in a dual 50/60 Hz confi guration. Jan Moravec continued: “We developed the new RW line of generators, designed specifi cally for rental applications, working hand in hand with our customers, The RW line shines in situations where high manoeuvrability and fast installation are required while maintaining a low cost of ownership.” Benefi ts of the RW line include: • a battery isolator switch • electrical sockets • an oil change pump • external fuel tank access • top lifting points Most of the changes in the small generators are under the bonnet. All the new models have been upgraded with Yanmar engines which have been used on a number of other products from Doosan Portable Power for years. This improves uptime with a low requirement of repair. A wide variety of common parts among the product line also helps with parts availability. Doosan Portable Power has also reduced noise levels by 2 to 6 dBA compared to the previous models. As each unit can run as either a 50 Hz or 60 Hz machine, this provides a very practical solution for environments like ports, where ships from diff erent countries operate. The new generators reduce fuel consumption by between 7 and 20%, when compared to the previous models or machines from other suppliers on the market. This helps to extend autonomy in the fi eld and reduces downtime. The durability of the units has been demonstrated through extensive and successful testing in Middle East conditions for thousands of hours, with the units being used with diff erent loads, and in temperatures above 40 °C. In this latest generation of small generators, Doosan Portable Power has also improved durability while keeping the forklift capability and the lifting points at the base of the frames. Additionally, all the models are supplied with steel door hinges and handles. NEW LVL PORTABLE LIGHT TOWER The 50 Hz LVL light tower - also available as a 60 Hz model - has a compact footprint for increased job site mobility and cost-eff ective transport. This latest light source from Doosan Portable Power provides simplicity, practicality and innovation to help customers provide temporary lighting for sites for longer. Applications include lighting for special events, road and bridge construction sites and all general construction applications, as well as providing lighting for emergency and disaster relief, oil and gas drilling and for mining and quarrying locations. The new LVL light tower has a power train based around the Yanmar L48N5 Tier 2 diesel engine. Due to a high output alternator, the LVL provides light and power with class-leading run- time. The fuel tank capacity allows an extended runtime for the four LED lights of 220 hours (200 hours for the 60 Hz version). The four 300 W LED lights provide a total output of 1200 W, providing the same area of lighting coverage as the previous generation metal-halide lighting tower. The durability of the LED lights is also a signifi cant improvement providing up to 50 thousand hours of lifetime, thus enabling the LVL to remain operational for much longer. There is also no need to consider cool-down or recharge times as with the previous generation DOOSAN PORTABLE POWER LAUNCHES SMALL GENERATOR RANGE IN MEA POWER EQUIPMENT 14 PLANT / MACHINERY / VEHICLESwww.plantmachineryvehicles.comDECEMBER 2021metal-halide lights. The LVL can be started up/ turned off or moved to a new location. The practicality of the new unit goes further in terms of the improved manoeuvrability. Whether it is the forklift capability, single-point lifting, or towing eye, the user has many options for moving the unit. Repositioning the light is easy due to the 7-metre (23 ft) telescopic extension and full 360-degree rotation. The mast on the light tower is raised by dual, hand-operated winches and features an automatic safety brake. The new vertical mast also allows more units to fi t into a standard 40-feet shipping container, and the units do not even require re-assembly once on site. Set up requires the draw bar to be dropped down, the fuel tank to be fi lled and the unit to be started. The LVL also has a 5 amp 230V or 120V (as a 60 Hz option) socket with a multi-region connector for providing power for mobile phones and other electrical devices. The clamshell-style canopy lifts easily for quick access to service points, ensuring routine maintenance is quick and easy to perform without having to take the machine apart.
