Situated in the west of the KSA, Desert Rock resort will comprise 60 keys and is designed by US-based Oppenheim Architecture. Accommodation ranges from ground level dwellings to crevice hotel suites midway up the mountain, and a select number of excavated rooms within the rock massif itself. As part of TRSDC's commitment to regenerative tourism, Desert Rock will be designed to achieve the highest Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certifi cation level. Materials excavated from the site will be used to create the infrastructure and Chad Oppenheim, founder of Oppenheim Architecture, said: "Desert Rock is one of the most dramatic desert landscapes in Oppenheim Architecture's Saudi Arabian mountain resort Desert Rock Its architecture will "honour" the desert landscape the world, which is why we wanted to use the architecture as a way to honour and respect it. By utilising natural materials and integrating the resort into the rock, guests can connect physically with the destination and experience Saudi Arabia's stunning, natural beauty." Giga project The Red Sea Project is on track to welcome the fi rst guests by the end of 2022 when the fi rst hotels will open. The fi rst phase includes 16 hotels and is expected to be completed by 2023.
